Grateful for the Lord’s Promises – Pastor 3 Update June 2023

Dear Ministry Partners,

Greetings to you all in the matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

“And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you” (Galatians 3:29).

We are so grateful to the Lord for His promises in the Word; that by faith, we become part of God’s promise!

My Wife with Friends on Her Birthday

God is so faithful that He provides our needs and protects us under His mighty wings. We appreciate you for your valuable prayers and financial support. We do remember you and your family in our daily thoughts and prayers. May our great God bless you with everything you need and good health.

Last month, we celebrated my wife and my daughter’s birthdays. In both of the celebrations, family and friends came for the fellowship. It is amazing that, God helped them to grow in the Word! And He has kept them healthy.

My daughter sharing her testimony at her birthday celebration.
My daughter with some of the other students at Bible school.

My daughter participated in VBS for 10 days. It was wonderful to learn God’s Word! By God’s grace, she got a prize for perfect attendance and 2nd place in the Bible quiz competition (right). She was awarded as the Bright Star of the class! There were approximately 350 children in the VBS.

We visited many non-Christian’s families, to build friendships and show them the love of Christ. Many of them have responded well.

Visiting a Family

Prayer Requests:

  •  Fervently pray that God will work in the hearts of the new families that we visited; that someday they will come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!
  • The weather is so hot now, a very high 42° (107 degrees Fahrenheit)! It is so hard for people to attend our very hot church building. Kindly pray. Also, pray for the growth and needs of our church.
  • Please pray for me and my family; that Lord may use us for the expansion of His kingdom.

Thank you very much for your prayers and support!

In Him,

Pastor 3* and Family

Teaching those of the Peruvian Amazon Jungle – Weakland Update May 2023

Hello friends and family. Here is a quick update this month.

My friend Pastor Alfredo of San Rafael, Peru is the chief leader of his people, the Aents (or Awajun). San Rafael is one of many jungle communities in mid-north Peru. Alfredo, being the first pastor of his people, has the heart to share the gospel with all of them and equip male leaders. He invited certain Aents men to come to San Rafael for a conference for a few weeks to study the Bible, with the hope that they will eventually be pastors and teach their people back in their communities. Nine of these men made sacrifices by leaving their families and banana farms to come to San Rafael and learn more about what the Word of God says.

North of Moyobamba on the map is San Rafael, the yellow dot with the white star. North and northwest from there towards Ecuador are where the Aents people are spread out into different communities.

The problem is that Pastor Alfredo hasn’t been able to find any bible teachers to come to his conference. He has been praying that God would send teachers for 7 or so years (I can’t remember the exact number). Then he crossed paths with Pastor Cory, my pastor from Calvary Trujillo.

Rewinding a month, I was in Moyobamba with a team for a missions trip there and then to San Rafael. Pastor Alfredo happened to be in Moyobamba with his son. I read Nehemiah chapter 8 one morning, right before meeting with Pastor Alfredo. Verse 8 talks about the priests explaining God’s Word to the people of Israel, and says, “They read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and gave them sense, so that the people understood the reading.”

Shortly after reading this, I met with Pastor Alfredo and he told me how he planned a conference, but couldn’t find anyone to come and teach some bible classes. Later I mentioned all of this with Pastor Cory and connected Nehemiah chapter 8 with Alfredo’s dilemma. These jungle men needed someone to explain to them and help them understand God’s Word. Next thing you know, Pastor Angel (of Calvary Buenos Aires Trujillo) and I were jungle bound 3 weeks later!

We had company on our taxi ride to San Rafael! Pastor Angel and I headed to the rural jungle community of San Rafael May 2 and 3.

When we arrived in San Rafael after crossing the river on a boat and then a bumpy taxi ride, 10 students eagerly awaited us. I taught a class called the Inductive Bible Study right away. It’s a class that uses tools like observation, interpretation, and application to better understand each verse of the Bible. Angel taught 1 Timothy in the late afternoon session, which was appropriate seeing that many of the Aents aspire to be pastors and teach their people one day.

I specifically emphasized in this session that as a Pastor, we have to give people the Word of God, not our opinions.

The classes went a lot slower than we expected, one reason being that we used Pastor Alfredo as a translator from Spanish to Aents. It was kind of funny because I would say a sentence in Spanish and everyone gave me a blank stare. Then when Alfredo translated, I could see the light bulbs click based on the expression of their faces, and many “aha!” moments.

It was cool to see almost every student arrive on time to their classes, with their Bible and notebook open, ready to learn. They were very humble and teachable.

The students were very thankful that we came, and some have been praying for years that someone would come and teach them the Bible. One man named Elias, who lives about 3 days away from San Rafael, said he was so desperate to learn, that he tried to invite some Jehovah’s witnesses to disciple him at one point. Praise the Lord that never came through! The students have such a burden to teach their communities the Word of God. When I plant Calvary Moyobamba in October, I want to be intentional about making a few trips a year to teach and invest further in these men, possibly with Pastor Cory and Pastor Angel.

Henry (to my right) asked for prayer that he would serve God faithfully. He asked great questions and was one of the best students.

Pastor Cory has invited Pastor Alfredo and 5 other Aents men to come to our Inductive Bible Seminar in Trujillo in August, as well as the church planting conference in September. Alfredo happily accepted the gracious offer. These are great steps to further disciple the Aents men.

Thank you for the financial support to allow me to go on this trip. And thank you for taking time to read this letter! I am thankful for you all! I will send another update in June.

Praise Reports

  • Praise God we made wonderful friendships with the Aents men.
  • Praise God for Pastor Cory and Calvary Trujillo’s prayers and my relationship with them.
  • Praise God that Angel wants to involve his church in missions more.
  • Praise God for the hunger of God’s Word the Aents students had. They want more!
  • Praise God that Alfredo is in the process of building a bigger building to host more bible teaching sessions.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray that the Aents men can be patient and diligent with their time in the Bible. It’s more difficult because they have it in Spanish, and it’s not their first language.
  • Pray for God to call more people to help with the church plant in Moyobamba in October.
  • Prayer for financial support.
  • Prayer for me growing in leadership, organization, and communication.

Now Visiting the USA! – Record Update June 2023

We arrived in California on June 6 and have spent the last few days getting over jet-lag. We had a smooth trip. It is a blessing to be able to visit the USA after four years away! We will spend June 28-July 12 in Missouri. We will return to California and stay here until we return to Cambodia on August 1. We look forward to connecting with as many of our beloved friends, relatives, and senders while we are here in the USA both in-person or even online. Please feel free to contact us at darryl@sgwm.com.

The last couple of months in Cambodia were full but blessed as we wrapped up our ministries there before coming to the USA. I continued working with Light Times Magazine, Kayo and I also worked with Precious Women Organization. Kayo continues her work as a board member and administrative volunteer, and I helped them produce videos and lead devotions. I continue to mentor a Cambodian pastor and another missionary. We also continue to partner with the international church to minister to expats and Cambodians. Kayo successfully completed her first round of leading the women’s ministry, helped with the communication system, and she also helped the worship team. I spoke a couple of times, helped with the Chinese ministry, and started laying the groundwork for a men’s ministry. I have a couple of projects to work on while I am here but I have a lot of flexibility and free time available to connect with people here.

In Christ’s Love,

Darryl, Kayo, and Benjamin

Vincent Family Missions Update – June 2023

Greetings from Mexico,

This month I had one of my busiest travel months ever, as I was blessed to visit 6 of our church plants. One of the great blessings of being involved in church planting, is we get to follow in the footsteps of the great Apostle Paul. After Paul planted churches, he went back and revisited them to encourage them. We hear this heart of Paul in acts 15:36, “Then after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us now go back and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they are doing.”

In this update, I want to take you along with me on these trips so we can celebrate together the great things God has done. The month of May began as I flew down to La Paz (South Baja) with a team of four pastors from our church. CCLa Paz is one of our older church plants at nearly ten years old. We were blessed to encourage their church and to host a  conference on church planting. But one of the main reasons we were visiting them is that they are preparing to plant two new churches themselves this year. (Churches planted by our churches are called 2nd generation church plants) It was a blessing to meet and encourage these courageous future church planters as they prepare to step out in faith.

Straight across the Baja peninsula is a cute little town called Todos Santos. 5 years ago, one of our church plants (CCRancho Libertad, mentioned below) planted this church along with a men’s discipleship home (rehab) in this sleepy little village. I was honored and blessed to teach at their Sunday service, and they had about 80 in attendance at their bilingual church. To see our 2nd generation church plants flourishing swelled up my heart with thankfulness.

In the middle of the month, I was able to travel up to Yucca Valley to teach at a conference titled “Raising up the Next generation!’ Many don’t know that directly after college I moved out to Yucca Valley where I got my first teaching and coaching job at Yucca Valley High School. During my three years living out in the desert, my home church was CC Joshua Springs, the church I was able to share at on this trip! Thank you Lord for allowing me to return to the desert to encourage the believers there.

At the end of the month, a team of six of us traveled to the Sonora Desert to visit two of our church plants. The state of Sonora is south of Arizona, and 10 years ago we planted a church there in a little town called Kilometer 57! We were blessed to visit and encourage the saints there, provide a delicious meal, and remind them of God’s love  for them.

We continued our travels driving an hour north to San Luis Rio Colorado (a border town to Arizona) to visit our 4 year old church plant in that town of half a million inhabitants! The Pastor told us that our presence there was like cold water flowing in a parched desert! We hosted a church planting conference there and encouraged them in this worthy missions endeavor. Thankfully, all four of the churches that we visited agreed to start up their own church planting classes in order to help them raise up leaders and future church planters!

My month ended by teaching at one of our local church plants, CC Libery Ranch located in La Mision. (30 minutes south of us) This thriving church isn’t only reaching their community, but they have planted two churches of their own as well. Presently their ministry is building a shelter for battered women, so please keep that worthy project in your prayers!

Finally, this month I was featured on a podcast where I was able to lay out our ministry’s vision for reaching the world through church planting. If you would like to give it a listen, you can find it on Spotify, and search for the “Cultivate Church planting network”.

Once again I want to thank you for your partnership over these past 21 years on the mission field of Mexico. We feel honored and blessed that you have chosen to partner with us as your missionaries through your prayers and finances. We love you!

Con mucho amor de Mexico,  (with much love from Mexico)

Mike, Sarah, Grace, and Daniel

Praise Reports!

God Is Healing the Broken-Hearted – Pastor 7 Update June 2023

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”

Isaiah 61:1

Dear Family & Friends in Christ,

I want to thank you so much for your prayers. I am confident that because of your prayers, God has been moving and opening doors for ministry because He loves the people of this nation. I have much joy in sharing all that our great Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has been doing!

The ministry of Jesus was to heal the broken-hearted by restoring them to Himself, and this is what I have been witnessing. I visited a young man who is living a very broken life. He lives outside of the village because he is lower caste, and he has an addiction to alcohol. His daily wages are very small and he chooses to waste the wages on alcohol. He also has a very broken relationship with his parents because his parents are also addicted to alcohol. I have seen how this has been very destructive in their home and life. I am very thankful God gave me the opportunity to meet them and share with them about God and how much He loves them. As I shared the Gospel with this young man, I told him how much the Lord loves him. This young man is attempting to heal his heart through alcohol, but I shared with him that in the Word of God we can find the solution to everything because we find healing there. I am praying for this man and his family. As I continue to visit them, I am praying that the Word of God will transform their hearts and minds.

In one of the villages that I have been visiting during the past six months, I have been so blessed to see how God is transforming the people there! There was a back-slidden family who had not attended church for more than two years. They did not have a good understanding of God’s Word. The church that they attended did not properly teach the Bible. Instead, they taught the church members to place their focus on tithing and on what God could do for them. It has been wonderful to see God working and how interested in God’s Word this family has become! When I first met this man and his family, they would often say that they were busy or make other plans for Sunday and not be available for Sunday service.

However, now I have seen so much growth in their lives. They are eager to receive me on Sundays, and they have said they will not make other plans. They now put Sunday fellowship as a priority. I am blessed to see them growing and asking so many questions about the Lord and the Bible. After our teaching time, we spend time going over their questions and I am seeing changes in them. It is also really amazing to see them invite other family members to their home for church service! These sheep are bringing other sheep, and my heart is really blessed by all God is doing.

I am seeing God’s faithfulness through the people I am ministering to. They are all from the lowest caste and feel very rejected and unloved by society. As I share the Gospel, they are discovering the true and living God that loves them and does not see caste or economic status. The ground is level at the cross, and they are learning that they are perfectly loved by the Creator of the universe. They are learning that only Jesus Christ can heal their broken hearts.

Thank you for your prayers, my friends and family. I ask that you would please continue to pray.

Prayer Requests:

  • Those I am meeting with are not baptized. Pray that as I teach them about baptism, they would have a good understanding and that God would prepare their hearts to want to receive baptism.
  • Pray for traveling safety. The distance is far to these villages (93 miles by motorcycle). I usually return at night, and the weather is not good for motorcycle riding.
  • Pray for open doors for future ministry. The villages that I have been visiting are along the highway, but I desire to go to the inner villages which are considered tribal and in extreme idolatry, very dark.
  • Please pray that God will use me to bring light to these dark villages.

God bless,

Pastor 7*

Pray for our 500 students that are being daily discipled in the love of God and His Word, so they may lead their nation into a new season of hope.

Pray for the 75 children and young adults in our children’s home and for the missionary parents that are laying down their lives to provide peace and unconditional love to these precious ones.

Please pray for the new churches in the Tauso & Taposa villages. Pray that the pastors and medical staff will have the spiritual and physical tenacity to handle the countless challenges while living amongst Stone-Age tribes.

In Kenya:
Pray for the refugee students in our missionary training college in the Kakuma Refugee Camp. They are fasting and praying as they prepare to return to South Sudan to begin reaching cities across the border in North Sudan, with hopes to plant churches amongst Muslim peoples in 2020-21.

In USA:
Pray for the Missions Equip Training Programs. We are in the throes of launching two new schools this year.

The first – International School, will be used in Bible Colleges as a complete missions training course.
The second – Transformation, is a cross-cultural immersion training program, equipping missionaries to assimilate into their new culture while learning the language and world view.

Pray that God would continue to empower, envision and sustain us as we seek to establish nationally led, culturally relevant, biblical-based churches among unreached peoples.

Thank you for your prayers!

Gary and Tina Barrow – Truckee, California

We have been here pastoring Calvary Chapel Truckee for almost 3 years now. We’ve faced many challenges and difficulties, many we never dreamed would be something we would face in ministry. But God has been so very faithful, and I believe we’re right where God wants us as a church.

Please pray…We’re in need of a worship leader/assistant pastor at the church. Currently Gary is carrying all of the teaching and administration of the church. It’s been a heavy, and at times, an overwhelming responsibility. But again, God has been so very faithful. We trust that with your prayers, God will raise up an assistant that is like minded and has a heart to serve God’s people.

Please join us in praying for a fresh out pouring of God’s Spirit on Calvary Chapel Truckee.

We’ve been praying about starting a preschool to reach out to the town of Truckee. We need wisdom and vision on how the Lord would have us do this.We have just returned from Israel and it seems that God has opened up amazing doors for ministry there for us. We have an open do to reach out to youth in a Palestinian controlled area. God has also opened a door for us to minister to special needs kids in Israel. We’re praying and asking God to show us how He would have us walk through those doors.

Gary is planning on traveling with Pastor Trent to the Middle East later this year. We’re asking the Lord to show us how He’d have us be part of the ministry there also. We’re planning for Hungarian summer camps again this year. During one of the camps last year, a woman approached Gary and ask if he knew who she was? She showed him a picture of the 2 of them from a camp Gary did 13 years earlier. She said she gave her heart to the Lord during that camp and Jesus changed her life. She’s now living for Jesus, married to a christian man and serving in her church. Last year we saw 64 of 93 kids come to the Lord in 2 summer camps. We’re asking the Lord for even more souls this year.

Gary is teaching a class and continues to arrange teachers for the colleges we have in the 10/40 window. Please continue to pray that God would raise up believers to take the Gospel and saturate that area. Gary would like to lead a team later this year to visit the college and encourage the students through block classes. We’re asking God for the right timing for a trip.

With all the many overseas opportunities now opening up to us, we’re asking God to show us how to serve faithfully here at Calvary Chapel Truckee, and how to balance that with the many open doors abroad. We believe the Lord is leading us into greater fields of harvest. We’re asking the Lord for wisdom and direction. We want to thank you for your prayers. If you have any questions, we welcome your emails and will respond to them promptly.

– God bless,

Praise Report:

Praise God that we made it to Calpulalpan, Tlaxcala, Mexico, where our daughter, Brittany, and her husband, Brian are going to plant a church (Calvary Conexión México). There were some bumps along the way with our 24-foot trailer, but we made it here safely!

We’d also like to give him praise for the two outreaches we were able to do along the way in Culiacán & Morelia, as well as serve a little at and/or fellowship with several other church plants and pastors along the way.

Prayer Requests:
For wisdom to know how to best use our time to help get the church building ready for Calvary Conexión México. For the Lord to prepare the hearts of the children and their parents to be open to the gospel. We will be having a big outreach for kids here in Calpulalpan. There will be games, songs, a Bible lesson, craft, as well as prizes and backpacks to give away! We even plan to do some games with the parents and give away some prizes for them as well.

For finances, as we are having some trouble with our local Mexican bank, and we have a lot of funds that we are currently not able to access (and may not be able to access for months until some paperwork gets taken care of).

For a safe return trip home to Rosarito, trailer in tow, early to mid-February.

Please pray for our upcoming semester at CBI Peru. We will have 23-25 full time students, are biggest semester yet. Our semester theme is “Abide” as apart from Jesus can nothing, and when we abide in Him we bear much fruit.
Please pray for Calvary Trujillo and Calvary Buenos Aires, Peru. We are transitioning as we sent a group of about 20 to plant a church in another part of town, and it has been great to see God work. We have several outreach events coming up, and God is opening up new doors in our community with the universities, rehab centers and firefighters.
Please pray for our family as received Isabela into our home about a month ago. She is 4 and a special girl. We took her on her first family vacation this month, and she calls us “mama” and “papa” now. She likes to run up to us and kiss us, and tells we are “lindo” (Nice). Pray for continued integration, as there are rough spots as well.
Please pray for another church we hope to plant in October with another graduate of CBI Peru in the jungle city of Moyobamba. We are hosting the CC Missions conference for South America and CBI Kauai is joining us to serve at the conference and then help us do an invasion of Moyobamba.

Thank you and we really do appreciate your faithfulness to pray.

Thank you from our hearts,

Shilo and Racquell Stratton – Peru

Pray for our minds, that we would not be anxious or stressed regarding preparing to move and actually being sent. That we would have the goal and mission in mind of making disciples. Of serving Christ and no one else. Of making His name famous and not our own. And generally for clear thinking. That we’d hold fast to sound doctrine.

Pray for our spirits, that we’d serve God without fear and in absolute surrender. That we’d lay aside sins and things that easily ensnare us. That we’d put on God’s armor.

Pray for our bodies, that we’d be strong and that God would ward off any infections, diseases, or accidents from us prior to and on the field. Especially for baby Amalia. I (Shilo) think I’ve got a food allergy that my doctor and I are currently trying to figure out.

Pray for PERÚ, for the country as a whole. Latin America is full of false doctrine, prideful religiosity or cultural Catholicism and dangerous governments. Peru’s presidency just underwent some drastic sudden changes, and the country is not at peace.

Andrew Weakland – Peru

1. Praise God that he confirmed Yenry to come help me plant the church. There are now 2 on the team!
2. Praise God I have a good relationship with my Pastor Cory. He has wonderful insight, he prays for me, and is here to help.
3. Praise God that there are several people in Moyobamba that want to be part of the church plant.

1. Pray for a sound mind. I have been attacked a lot as of recently, and want the Lord to have victory and rule.
2. Pray that the Lord can confirm to more people to be part of the team. There are three ladies that are praying and considering helping for 6 months.
3. Pray for the wisdom of who to invite to the discipleship house in Moyobamba. Also where to have it.

Thanks for the prayers. Love you all!

Darryl and Kayo Record – Cambodia

Dear Prayer Partners,
Thank you so much for your faithful prayers!  We were going through a financially uncertain time for several months but God miraculously provided the funds we needed from unexpected places that made it possible for us to not only visit California this summer (June 6 to August 2) but also to visit family and senders in Missouri (July 28 to July 12).
1. Please pray that God will bless and guide us as we connect and reconnect with our loved ones in the USA. We haven’t been able to visit the CA since 2019 or Missouri since 2017.  May God also provide opportunities to connect with others we may not have met before.
2. Please pray for health, strength, safety, and favor throughout our trip with everyone we meet. We have received a lot of blessings already.
3. Please pray that we will be well prepared as we pause ministries here in Cambodia and then shift gears so that we can bless and encourage those we meet in the States.
4. Please pray for wisdom and provision regarding our long-term financial needs.  We have been blessed that our short-term needs have been met, but we still have some significant long-term needs (for example, Benjamin’s education) that have not been fully met yet.

Doru and the Pavel’s – Romania

Good day everyone, Please lift our family in prayer for health and endurance. The last few weeks have been difficult with ear infection for our youngest who is recovering, strep throat, and different symptoms on a daily basis. We ask for wisdom for the doctors who are helping us and everyone who needs their assistance.
Lift up our youth who are growing deeper in the lord and opening their hearts to the weight of sin they are learning to look for and uproot. We are also preparing to have a prayer walk for our community this coming weekend and we would love to see the Lord work and express his Holy Spirit in wonderful ways.
Our church also has a dearly loved sister who is in the process of identifying what type of cancer she is dealing with, so we ask the Lord to heal her, provide closeness and unity within our congregation.
Please pray for my wife’s (Tasha) safety as she is working abroad and is dealing with some foot problems and missing the family.

Blessings and Prayers,

A Great Time on a Mission Trip – Prakash Update June 2023

Great Time on a Mission Trip

A true mission trip is not all about fun. We need to put aside our comfort zone and get ready to face the peoples’ problems and serve them every possible opportunity. There are plenty of challenges, hardships, and different kinds of difficulties; yet it is always filled with the great blessings at the end! That part of doing ministry is so rewarding, that it ignites our desire to serve the Lord even more.

Calvary Chapel H*

As pastors, we lead people to the Lord, disciple them, raise them for service to the Lord. When we see the fruits in their ministry, it brings great joy to our hearts and fills our eyes with tears of joy!

A new family has been attending Calvary Chapel H* for two months. Brother Dipak accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior. It was great to see people coming to the Lord!

Holy Communion (above)- We had a sweet time of a Holy Communion Service at Calvary Chapel H*.

Visiting Believers’ Homes

When we do mission trips, we love visiting believers (above) from our church and hearing their testimonies, finding out their current situations, and spending time in prayer with them!

This family (above) lives in the middle of the jungle, around 20 kilometers away from Calvary Chapel H*. It takes one hour and 45 minutes for them to get to the bus station. We had an opportunity to visit them, see their difficult situation, and pray for them. It was heartbreaking! When a member of that family gets sick, they have to physically carry them as there is no provision of an ambulance.

Meeting with the local pastors: on this trip we visited two pastors who are good friends of mine. As we shared about our Bible School and IBS method, they became interested in sending their youth. They also want us to have an IBS conference in their area in the near future and invite other church leaders. The man on my left side (above) is the president of an organization of 22 pastors of different churches.

N* Church Visit

I used to write about this church in the past. The pastor of this church’s son and three of his daughters used to attend our church in the capital. The pastor is getting older. There is no one who wants to lead the church after him. We tried to encourage and raise up a leader for couple of years, but no one appeared. Then we put it in the Lord’s hands, because we also have not be able to send someone there to look after the church. Still, that church is in our prayers. May God raise someone up!

Calvary Chapel J* Mission Trip

We visited the church and had a one day IBS conference.

The conference at Calvary Chapel J* was blessed. People really liked the IBS method. We hope that the churches there will send their people to our Bible Institute and organize an IBS conference in future.

Brother Rabindra from our church in the capital, who graduated previously from Calvary Bible Institute, is teaching IBS (above). He is leading a Bible study in his home town.

I had a great time with pastor Indra, the president of J* United Pastors. He really liked the IBS method and is interested in sending people in future to Calvary Bible Institute.

Blessings!

Being Blessed at Calvary Loreto – Mullins Update May 2023

The Lord is doing so many amazing things here at Calvary Loreto, Baja California Sur in Mexico. We are so privileged to be able to serve our Lord here in Loreto, Mexico. Pastor Elmer teaches verse by verse in the Gospel of John every Sunday and David teaches in the book of Exodus on Wednesday nights. We continue to offer the message of Salvation at every service ensuring that everyone that attends gets the opportunity to receive it. Along with the entire congregation knowing that their guests will always hear the message of Salvation at every service.

The Children’s Ministry continues to be a huge blessing for us as we are well over 40 children every service. We are currently teaching them at their grade levels with a curriculum provided by Calvary Church in Costa Mesa. There are now 3 separate classes: babies, young children, and our youth every Sunday and Wednesday. This takes a small army of volunteers every week, but the Lord has been faithful and continues to provide us with an amazing group of volunteers that are gifted to teach each of the children’s groups weekly. There is nothing more special for me than when we make house visits and see the children’s projects/crafts that are made on Sundays hanging in their homes. As soon as we walk in the children grab us and want to show me their work. We have one little boy that takes a while every week to do his project and when his mom comes to get him, he says I can’t leave mommy I want to finish my project for you. When I hear this my heart just melts.

Our youth class has just moved from the outside to our new indoor youth room as it’s beginning to be too hot to be outside and learn. This room was completed earlier this year and with the heat coming we needed to move the class indoors. Please keep them in your prayers that we can raise funds to get an air conditioner for this room in the hotter summer months. This class is a real treat to watch as these children learn and apply God to their lives and homes. Our future generations of believers will be walking with the Lord. It is so humbling to see their young lives transformed by Christ right before our eyes.

We had the pleasure to host and serve alongside a team from Southern California last month. They were here for one week and did so much to encourage us along with serving the entire church body. One thing they were able to do was an outreach in one of the local neighborhoods. We were able to invite neighbors back to one of the church member’s house to share a free meal which was the best Birria tacos. Once they were there, we were able to have fellowship and invited them to Calvary Church Loreto. To be able to sit with people while having a meal along with showing them the love of Christ is one of the most amazing things to see. We were so blessed by this day in so many ways. When the teams were out walking the neighborhoods, they were able to visit houses and pray for people’s individual needs along with praying for spiritual awakening in our town.

The team was also able to host a Marriage Date night where we served dinner and watched the movie “Courageous”. We had over 15 couples in attendance for this life-changing evening. Once the movie was finished the men were able to sign and commit their lives to all those present that they would be the Spiritual Leaders of their households. That they would be the Men God created them to be.
But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15

In February, Calvary Loreto was able to start our church planting classes. This class will lift servant leaders in the local church and also equip Ministry leaders along with those that feel called to plant churches and share the gospel message. We follow the book of Acts as the model that God has laid out for us. These students commit to a minimum of 2 years to be raised and to be open to where God wants them to go. We also had the privileged last month of our sending Church, Calvary Rosarito coming and doing our first Annual Church Planting Conference.
Pastor Mike led this conference explaining to everyone what the Bible tells us about being a sending Hub. We are extremely overwhelmed to see how the Holy Spirit is working through these students to glorify the kingdom of God throughout Mexico and the World. God has a mighty plan for these future church planters. Please keep them in prayer along with Pastor Elmer for wisdom as he teaches this class every week.

Pastor Elmer and his wife Crystal, David and I thank you all for your prayers and continued financial support. We couldn’t do it without faithful supporters like you. You ALL are helping to do the work of the ministry here in Loreto Mexico. This is your Spiritual fruit also and we are so Blessed to be able to serve our Lord and Savior here. Thank you for helping to do the work of the Ministry here in Loreto Mexico

MATTHEW 28 19-20

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age,

Harris Family Update – May 2023

“God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”

PSALM 68:6

This month we were blessed with a visit from my (Matt’s) parents, Brian and Tammy Harris. After having their first tickets canceled when the world shut down in 2020, and their second tickets canceled when my father had a severe case of COVID in 2021, their trip felt long overdue. Although we had little chance to break from the routine of work and school that our life revolves around, our time together was precious. It was wonderful to show them our Ugandan church family, the pastoral school, the farming enterprise, and all of the great people we have been sharing our life with. But really my Mom and Dad spent most of their time simply being with their grandkids!

We visited many people with my parents, including our sister church 2 hours away. While we were there God allowed me to minister with a sermon, and my parents ministered through song.

God Bless You All!

Blessed in Ministry- Pastor 6 Update June 2023

Dear Family in Christ,

I hope you all are doing well. I am continuously remembering you all in my prayers. I am very thankful to God for every thing that He is doing. I am also very thankful for your prayers and support. We praise God and thank Him when we pray for you. You have been such a great encouragement to us in building the kingdom of God.  “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”

I am very excited to share the things that God is doing here in South Asia. I hope this will encourage you and lead you to pray more for the work that is going on.

Update on the College

God, in His mercy, has helped us successfully finish the semester. We have wrapped up our semester classes as of 16th of May. In addition to that, our CBI is filled with thanksgiving toward our God, for helping us through the process of registering our own property for a campus building in the city. Praise God, that He has been with us in all the documentation process. We pray that He who has begun a work within us, will bring it to completion.

The students are very grateful and thankful to God that He is teaching them a lot of things from the Word of God! It really makes us happy when we hear from them that the Word of God is working in their lives; that they understand it’s truths; and that it sets them free from sin. They focus on sound doctrine and hold to sound teaching. Whenever I talk to the students, they share what God has been saying to them and how He is touching their hearts to reach out the lost! They are praying for Him to reveal the place where they need to go to preach the Gospel after they finish the whole academic training. God has placed a burden in our hearts to reach the states that speak this language and beyond and to raise up the next generation of pastors and leaders.

Interns Are Being Sent

God’s vision is our vision. It is His heart, to make disciples. When the opportune time comes, God, the Holy Spirit, commissions the disciples and sends them wherever the workers are needed. Two graduates, namely Brother A*and Brother C*, have been sent out for the harvest.

Brother A*, has been faithfully serving with his home church (his father pastors a few churches) in P* district. He’s been praying to reach out to nearby villages, towns, districts by organizing youth meetings and pastors’ conferences in the coming season. His heart is to see the Word spread, whatever the cost. We are rejoicing to see what God has planned for many of these young churches!

Brother C* has been fasting and seeking the Lord’s direction. The Lord has clearly spoken to his heart that he must go, where the name of the Lord is unknown. A week ago, we at our Calvary Chapel, prayed over Brother C* and sent him. He’s now working in the field to make more connections for the church plant in the H* region. We are praising God, that He has been stirring up the minds of the disciples to start a new work in unreached locations!

As a part of our curriculum, we have been helping our students to get involved in outdoor evangelism. In that process, most of our students have been able to share the Word of God in public spaces more freely. We have been ministering, in parks (above), busy markets, shopping malls etc. They’re all going to practically apply whatever they have heard and put the Word in action.

Chapel Talks at Calvary Bible Institute

Chapel talks play a vital role in a student’s lives to enrich and enhance their preaching and teaching skills. Every day during the semester, we take time for chapel talk. We give a portion of Bible verses from a book of the Bible. They prepare all week and then get the opportunity to teach that Word of God for 30 minutes during the evenings. We train them to teach the Bible, chapter by chapter, and verse by verse. We are seeing the growth of our brothers in rightly dividing the Word of truth. In an age of nonsensical preaching, we help our brothers to carefully handle the Word of God, and to correctly communicate with the people of God. All of our brothers have been doing a great job in inculcating their commitment to preaching and teaching of God’s Word!

Youth Meeting in G*

God’s plan for each and every one is mighty and powerful. When we see it unfold, it looks like a great piece of work to save one soul, which will then spread to save many. Last year when Brother A* came to the school of worship for the first time, he had little interest in learning the Word. But after a year, the Spirit of God eventually moved his heart to come to the Bible Institute. We were very glad to see him back. Since then, he started to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. He then suggested to his dad, who is a pastor, to conduct young adult meetings. We ministered in that village; one day for young adult meetings, and then a couple of days for open-air meetings. There are already many false teachings that have been affecting churches, in and around this village. They were very interested to learn more of the Word. We are going to plan many village meetings, youth conferences, and pastors meetings to educate, empower and build the body of Christ.

Open Air Gospel Meeting

I Praise God for using us to share the Word of God in different churches in our states. Recently, we got invited by a pastor from a village, to come and teach the Word in the outdoor meetings that he’s conducting. A year ago I preached in the same place and people were encouraged by the Word of God. Again this year we got invited to share at the meetings.

This village is heavily affected by false doctrine and a lot of superstition. Even inside the church, very lawless things are happening. The challenging thing here in our country is to bring them out of fear of shame. You know that in our area we have a culture of shame. People trust Jesus and give their life to God, but they do not stop doing the wrong (Hindu things) they have been doing. For example, they have the fear of superstitious things, the fear of black magic, and the fear of curses. They have more fear of the Hindu culture, than of God. It is like they do not want to pay the cost to live for God. So even in many churches, even pastors do not say NO to those kinds of things. They are too afraid that the people will quit coming to church if they confront them. When I was in that village, I got to encourage that pastor to take up the Word of God and rebuke those things. Because this church belongs to God, not to us. He paid the price for the sinners. I shared with the pastor in the village, that we are not called to please people, but God.

On the day I was preaching in the meeting, I addressed these issues about backsliding and falling back into the false religious things. On that day, God revealed that there are many people who are still in this situation. We need to work hard to reach them, and show them the love of God, and to rightly teach the Word! For many people do not know that we have a spiritual life that we are to grow more in and come closer to God. It is really heartbreaking to see people who are in the bondage of superstition and don’t even realize it! People need to know that Jesus has come not only to cleanse the sinners and save them, but also to break their chains of bondage to sin. So on that day God spoke to all the people about needing this transformation. Romans 12:2.

There is more work here in our country! We need many faithful servants of God who are devoted to teach the right doctrine and show the love of God. I think that is why God has placed a burden in our hearts to equip and train young men to send out to reach those people for God so they don’t perish! I want you all to pray that God could use us more to raise up men to do the work.

T* Village Ministry

I hope you are praying for this village, because we are seeing the fruit every week when we visit them. We now have four families that are attending both the Bible study on Fridays and the Sunday worship service every week! There are also many challenges that we are facing. God has been faithfully leading us in those times of struggle.

Recently, we went door to door in that village preaching the Gospel. A lady asked us why we are coming to the village every week and sharing about someone. They rejected us and said, “We have our own gods. We are not in the need of any other!” The Christians who are in that village are living in fear. But the Bible study is giving strength to live the life of God during difficult times.

People are really showing hatred towards the pastor and Christians because of what’s happening (because false teachers and pastors are focusing only on money, rather than a burden to preach the Gospel)

There is a man from a Muslim family. Every week we have been meeting with him to tell him the Gospel. His family opposes him coming to Jesus. He is living in fear of coming to Christ because he is afraid of his family rejecting him and what they might do to him. Pray for this person! He is lame.

Youth Ministry and Future plans.

Youth at our Calvary Chapel, are involved in various outreaches to help share the love and grace of our Lord Jesus through word and deed. In the upcoming season, we are all set for a youth conference in the month of July, which will help the youth to know their purpose in Christ. Along with that, we are also going to plan free food distribution programs for the homeless, twice a month! It’s a good way to express the love of Christ through the preaching of the Word and also serving in our neighborhood.

J* Outreach

The time has come for all of us here in our Calvary Bible Institute to make use of all God’s grace and wisdom to spread the Word in near and far. It is with so much faith, that we are stepping into the new work that God has started in the city of J*. We will be ministering from 24th of May to 4th of June during which many youth meetings, pastors meeting, kids camp, village outreaches, evangelism are going to be held. We are so excited for this open door! We are hopeful that God will open many hearts to the Word and make them taste the goodness of God toward each one of them attending. It is also a great time for our students to be involved in outdoor ministry to use the Word of God in a practical way, so they can also learn to be ready to do ministry after finishing the lecture phase. This also helps us to recruit students for the Bible school. So be praying for this outreach.

Our Calvary Chapel Church Update

I cannot stop thanking God for the things that he’s doing in our church. People are being equipped to truly understand the Word of God. Every week we hear amazing testimonies from the church families. It really encourages a lot of us to move forward. Our Good Friday service and Easter Sunday Resurrection worship services went really well and were blessed.

God is doing amazing things through women’s Bible study. In our church most of the women are from Hindu backgrounds and were tortured by their husbands! Being in the Word really sustains them in faith and helps them to be strong. Children ‘s ministry is also going on every week and kids are growing in the Lord.  As they are being raised in broken families and disturbed situations, the Word of God is playing a major role in their lives.

We are also reaching out to our local community from our church by serving among the aged women who were abandoned by their children in nursing homes. We are going to those homes and caring for them by sharing the Word of God. Spending time with them gives a lot of joy to them and for us, too. Praise God that he’s using our church to reach out to our community and heal the broken-hearted and comfort.
