Re-entering the world wide web!

It’s been a minute since we posted online! Security issues, technical issues, and inexcusable excuses have kept us at bay from sharing publicly. We’ve made our way around the US giving personal updates, but we know there are many of you who were still left in the dark. We apologize for the long absence. We look forward to reconnecting and updating you all on a more regular basis. Here is the latest on our happenings this past year!

Our little superheroes

2022… Have you ever thought you were standing on solid ground, only to have the carpet pulled out from under you? That’s how we felt in February when we returned home. We came to the US and made huge headway regarding using the property for our ministry. Meetings were had, relationships solidified, and communication and understanding pushed us forward. We felt like we had reached the top of a mountain after a long uphill battle. We returned home ready and excited to move forward until that “mountain” crumbled, and we were left farther back than where we started.

The past five months have been a slow process of communicating, waiting, moving lives and living accommodations, more waiting, more communicating, and finally/occasionally taking small steps forward. The Lord is really stretching us and increasing our faith in this season. We are willing and available for whatever the Lord desires of us. If we are to leave that campus, We Trust Him. If we are to stay, We Trust Him. Both options are difficult, but the Lord never called us to “easy.” We have been on the rented property for 5 years since this July. It has been harder than we ever imagined since the first day we arrived. Rarely has it gotten easier, but we have grown a lot in endurance and faith. The Lord has been faithful and has done mighty and powerful things through the lives of students who have passed through. Churches have been (and continue to be) planted by many of those men; Pastors have been equipped, and brothers have been raised up and called to ministry. Even some women have been equipped and started bible studies in their villages. We believe that the Lord has greater work still to be done. We want to be part of it. So we trust in His time and wait for doors to be opened that no man can shut!

The waiting process has not made us idle but rather has opened doors to new opportunities that have been longed for and needed. As building plans and welcoming students were put back on hold, I had the opportunity to visit some of our fellow workers. There is so much I could write, but to be brief and highlight: I met with staff and interns in our southern region to encourage and exhort them; met students; shared the Word in the Sunday service; visited families of our staff. We live in a very relational culture, so meeting families, being available, and doing life with one another are extremely important. One example is visiting the sick mother of one of our staff. He has been through deep waters caring for his sick mother and continuing in the ministry. It was a blessing to come alongside him and pray over him in this trial. Another highlight was visiting an old student who hadn’t completed his course. He returned to his church halfway through and has faithfully led his congregation in the absence of his father (the previous pastor), who passed away while he was a student. Seeing this very young man lead so faithfully in such simple village conditions was pride for us. My wife felt like a mother to him (his mother passed many years ago) during his school days, and she was so blessed to meet his wife and see him again.

Lunch in the village is served fresh!

One story to paint the picture of this little church:

We were only there for a night, but he arranged a worship service for me to share the Word late in the evening. The church is in a very remote area, and there is a possibility of persecution, especially at the sight of foreigners. We took his local car so as not to draw attention to our out-of-state plates. We also showed up after the service started late in the night. My wife sat down on the floor in the back with the other woman while I was introduced to teaching. It was a very simple church with brick walls, a tin roof, no a/c, no chairs, and no frills. The believers were simple and earnest, eager to hear the Word of God in simplicity and wholeness. Our old student was taught the Calvary Chapel style of teaching (chapter by chapter, verse by verse) and was reminded again as I taught. I was able to exhort and counsel him in teaching his congregation the whole counsel of God’s Word. Many came to us to be prayed over, and this young man and his wife were so encouraged by our visit and the willingness to do life with them, even if just for a night.

We came home for a month and had a lot to pray over concerning the direction of our ministry. Do we move the Bible school to a new location? When do we open the school?Should we put the school on hold and focus on visiting our other schools and workers across the country?
As time continues on, some of this has been answered for us- seasons take their course. Plans continue to change, and so far, there has been no finality in our direction. We just remain faithful and available and take opportunities as they come.

What A Privilege To Be In Their Midst!

In May, I traveled again to visit our only school that was currently running. I came alongside our leader there as he took the students for outreach. It was a wonderful time being with the students, seeing them use their gifts, and putting into practice what they had learned that semester.

Praying over the land of future bible college

In July, my wife and I traveled stateside for important events and necessary work. It was a brief trip as we left the kids back home with my parents. We praise God they did well while we were away!
We had an opportunity to be in Mexico to pour into students who feel the same call to GO. It was a wonderful time to be with like-minded believers and encourage them to follow in His faithfulness.

In September, I will be traveling to visit our fellow workers in the North. I have longed to visit him for many years and am so thankful to have the opportunity finally! In October, I will be traveling to another country in South Asia for a leadership conference. Please be praying for these upcoming travels. Pray for safety over the journey, fruitful time during my visits, and safety over my wife and children as they stay back and continue in their daily schedules.
Our Sojourn continues!

PRAYER REQUESTS

*Please pray as the Lord leads you concerning the land for our bible training center. Pray over the location, the timing for opening, the relationship with the owners of our current campus, our staff on the campus, and keeping it maintained until we know what to do with it.

*The greatest need for our family right now is financing. We need to raise an additional $800 a month to cover our family’s cost of living and be able to minister to those the Lord has called us to.

We have depleted both our personal savings and ministry savings this past year with our travels. In just 5 months since returning from the US, we’ve traveled across the state more times than we’ve kept count; we’ve traveled around the southern part of the country twice; we’ve left the country twice. We are thankful for the ministry the Lord has called us to in these travels, and we are trusting He will continue to provide for the opportunities He sets before us. When we were stateside last year, some asked if we needed financial support, but we turned them to others more in need as we were financially stable. Little did we know all the Lord had in store when we returned! On top of additional travel, there has been a sizable increase in daily living costs. Here are some of the things we’ve had to increase in our budget since the start of this year: grocery and household needs, electricity, insurance, gas/transportation, maintenance (household and car), and school fees for three kids.

We know the rest of the world is facing the same struggles, especially in the West, as prices have skyrocketed! We know Jesus is coming soon. Until He comes, we press on and into the One who has called us. Not alone but with a team of laborers from different walks of life who partake in various ways of this calling. We know He will provide more laborers to come alongside in what He has called us to, where He has called us. Are you one of them?

*Please intercede on behalf of our workers across the country. Many are facing persecution within their families and villages. So many are facing health issues and physical trials. A few have had relatives, more specifically mothers, who have been sick, one even passing away suddenly without warning. Parents on the field figure out their children’s education and pressure them to succeed in school.

Pray for the Pastors of churches who deal with so much sin and apathy within their congregations. Pray for them to be bold in their preaching, gentle as doves, approachable but immovable when truth must be contended for.

Pray for many of our young pastors who need wives and for the Lord’s hand in working out those arrangements. Pray for the wives of Pastors and Leaders to be helpmates, women of righteousness, and covered in spiritual armor to protect against incessant attacks of the enemy both on body and mind as well as spirit.

Lastly, pray for unity among us all and encouragement in the face of great loneliness. One of the greatest spiritual tactics of the enemy in these parts is to make us feel alone, unheard (or misunderstood), and uncared for. We know these are great lies, but they come in stealth form.

Many blessings to you and love from our family,

The Baby’s

Calvary School of Missions Edition

The opportunity to serve God is one of life’s most cherished gifts and coupled with loving encouragement, the result is an explosion of passion and purpose. And so it is at the Calvary School of Missions here in Mexico. We are so blessed to be able to walk with so many young people who have a heart for the Great Commission.
Almost five years ago now God clearly directed us to get involved with raising up, training up and helping young people to be sent from their home churches to the mission field. Through several confirmations, and taking a huge step of faith, we launched the Calvary School of Missions in Summer of 2019. We are now on our fourth Summer of this 6 week program and it continues to be an incredible tool in God’s hands to help these called out young people get prepared to fulfill the Great Commission in their lives.

“I’ve been doing missions for 25 years and have seen a great need for training and guidance for young people who feel called to pursue mission work and I am honored to be part of it.” Pastor Trent Douglass

It’s a common occurrence in many young people in the church today. Here’s the scene. They are sitting in their Bible teaching church, being taught verse by verse and they begin to get stirred up and awakened to the Great Commission. They believe they have found their purpose on the earth and feel a call to GO into the world and preach the gospel. So they begin to explore what it means to be a missionary and try to find a way to go. Their hearts cry is “Here am I, send me. But how Lord? Where do I start?” So they go to their churches and start to share what God is doing in their hearts. But sometimes their church isn’t involved in missions or maybe they just don’t have a vision to send people to the foreign mission field so there is not always a clear path for them to follow. Sometimes they are encouraged to get involved with a missions para-church organization or get involved with local evangelism. And sometimes, that original fire burns out and they never end up going. And those who do actually make it to the mission field don’t always have good training. In the last 25 years we have met many of these missionaries and have seen their struggles and our heart is to help them in any way we can. We also want to try to catch these called out ones before they go and help them prepare and be trained in order to go and be sent well. God has been faithful to allow us to be a part of raising these young missionaries up.

Pastor Tim Pappas (in red shirt) is the director of the School of Missions and has a heart to see young people raised up and churches planted all over the world.

Pastor Tim with some of our students. Not only does he love to serve in the school but he loves Mexico and has been coming to this country for years doing evangelism and pastoral care.

Radical Transformation

We are in our third week of the School of Missions and already the life changing power of the word of God is at work. We arrived in Rosarito, Mexico with 21 students eager to learn and hopeful for their futures. Within a few days we began to witness hearts being radically challenged, minds being changed and a sobriety for the call take root. Their dreams started to become unmovable callings. Convinced by the word of God, these students are counting the cost and praying for what God has for their futures.
Since arriving at the school, the students have been able to see the heart of the church planting movement in Mexico. Twenty years ago we had the honor of sending out Mike Vincent to plant a church in Rosarito and we have seen God radically move in that ministry. So we partner hand in hand with his church, Calvary Chapel Rosarito, and have had the great privilege of coming alongside many of their 45 church plants. Because they have so many established works here in Baja California, we have been able to serve at the various churches doing evangelism, outreach, kids ministry, worship, providing meals and praying for the hurting. They learn in the classroom and then are able to use what they’ve learned in the community. Church planting is no longer just a concept in their minds, but a reality they have actually been a part of. They are getting a vision for the world and a heart for the lost and hurting and it is a privilege to be a part of their process.

One of the most important parts of the School of Missions is the teachings the students receive.

For the first week and a half, Pastor Trent Douglass, Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Saving Grace and President of Saving Grace World Missions, lays the foundation to Biblical Missions and the Purpose of the Church. From there the students are blessed to receive teachings from several seasoned missionaries. Because our focus is on the most unreached people groups of the world, many of our teachers work in this area of the world. Some of our guest speakers have been Pastor Bond and Heather Gaona who church plant in South Asia, The R family working in North Africa, Pastor Rob Douglass, founder and director of Ends of the Earth Ministries working in South Sudan, Pastor EZ, President of Living Waters, Pastor Wes Bentley founder and director of Far Reaching Ministries, Pastor Cory Kilgus senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Trujillo in Peru and Director of CBI Peru, and Pastor Mike Vincent senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Rosarito and Director of the Church Planting School at CCR. We were also privileged to hear from many national workers from all over South Asia! Each teacher has brought to the students rich teachings on culture, evangelism, compassion, the gospel, support raising and much much more. You cannot put a price tag on these teachings! They are priceless and have brought these students to a deeper understanding of God and their individual callings in this world.
Please continue to pray for the students as they seek God for their next steps. The quality of character in each of these students is obvious and we know and believe that God has incredible things for each of them.

We ask that you would prayerfully consider becoming a financial partner with SGWM. Financial partners are crucial to help operating costs at the SGWM home base, allowing us to serve missionaries worldwide.

2022 Update from Calvary Loreto, BCS Mexico

What a year it has been here at Calvary Loreto, BCS Mexico. On February 7th we had our first anniversary. The Lord has been doing amazing things here at Calvary Loreto’s Bilingual Church. We had a great day of fellowship and celebration after our Sunday service. Over 150 people joined us to hear the word of God, and enjoy one another’s company while sharing a meal and dessert. It has been a blessing for David and me to come alongside Pastor Elmer and his wife Crystal and to serve at Calvary Loreto.

Thank you for your prayers for our children’s ministry. Our children’s ministry has grown to over 60 children throughout the week and has outgrown our one-room classroom. We were able to build an area for our toddlers to roam and play. Thank you for your generous donations. We now have a safe and secure place for our littlest ones to enjoy their time at church while our older children can learn about God at their level of learning.

We were able to purchase a church van. This has been a huge blessing as now we can go around and pick up people that couldn’t make it to church on Wednesdays and Sundays. This allowed us to be able to do outreaches and youth events that were not previously possible. Thank you to all that prayed and supported us in this. It has been a blessing we use multiple times throughout the week.

Our youth ministry is starting to explode. We have up to 20 young adults showing up to our weekly events, such as hiking, softball, beach volleyball or just hanging out and playing games. We have a devotion and share the gospel every week. We are grateful that many of our young adults serve at the church as greeters or at our outreaches and in the children’s ministry. In Loreto, there are no movie theaters, malls, libraries, or anything in their age demographics for them to do. They are our next generation and we know the Lord has big plans for them.

As we continue to grow we have run out of space (again!) The Lord provided for us as always by sending a team from Calvary Chapel Rosarito our sending church in March. They along with some of our church family helped knock down walls and made room for an additional 35 more seats for our Wednesday & Sunday services. They were also able to redo the front of the sanctuary along with adding the much-needed prayer corners where people can come and get prayer during worship. This was such a great image of the body of Christ working together to glorify God.

Now that we have a van we are available to have monthly outreaches. These outreaches are starting to produce fruit. Our faithful servants can share the word of God with this community along with providing lunch and an opportunity to have fellowship and share the love of Jesus. Most people do not own a vehicle so on Sunday mornings we have the availability to bring a few people from the outreaches to church. Please pray for these people as we continue to pour into them that their lives are changed and they come to have a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior.

Acts 1:8 You shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all of Judea and Samaria and unto the ends of the earth. Our Judea is here in Loreto but our dream is to one day expand out into Samaria.

David has started an ESL( English Second Language) class as some of the members asked David if he could teach them English. He took this as an excellent opportunity to sharpen or to learn a little Spanish too. Neighbors started noticing and wanted to join in on this FREE lesson.
1 John 4:21 “And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.”
We have been able to use this as one more way to show the love of Jesus. We teach them phrases that they can use weekly at church like; Welcome to your church Calvary Loreto and God Bless you. David has learned Dios te Bendiga and Bienvenido a tu Iglesia. Please keep David in your prayers that the Lord will use him to grow this ministry and that he continues to show God’s love.

Many people have taken the next step of obedience and have been baptized. This year Pastor Elmer and David have had the opportunity to baptize 32 people at Calvary Loreto’s beach baptisms. It has been so awesome to see God work through this church and our church members. At the last beach baptism, we had 120 people come out to witness these brothers and sisters showing their obedience and love for Jesus.

We were blessed by Calvary Chapel Chino Hills’ “Agape Ministry”. We were gifted clothing, pillowcases, and hair scrunchies. Michelle and our children’s ministry leaders were able to pray over all these blessings along with giving them out to the children at a Sunday service. We even had extra that we now can use in our year-end gift bag ministry for our children at Christmas.

Pastor Elmer, his wife Crystal, David and I would like to thank each of you for your continued prayers and support for Calvary Loreto and us individually. The work of the ministry can only be done by you coming along in prayer and your financial support.

Prayer Requests:

  1. That the Lord will provide a worship leader for us this year
  2. A youth leader is raised up at Calvary Loreto
  3. We continue to have unity and honor God in all we do
  4. All of our provisions are met
  5. In God’s perfect timing, to provide Calvary Loreto with leaders for” Celebrate Recovery” a Christ-based recovery program.

If the Lord puts on your heart to financially support Calvary Loreto, Pastor Elmer, or us in any way please click on the blue “Become a financial partner” box or mail a check payable to Saving Grace World Missions with the “Mullins” in the memo. The address is 17451 Bastanchury Rd. Suite 203 Yorba Linda, Ca 92886.

Struska Missions Update February 2022

Our Family

Since our last blog update, there was a little addition to our family! Meet our granddaughter, Kimberly Grace! She’s almost 3 1/2 months old already and starting to show her own little personality. It is a joy to have our grandbabies so close! Joshua will turn two next month and his energy level shows it! This little guy is always moving and keeps his parents on their toes. Brian and Brittany are continuing with the church planting class at Calvary Rosarito. Brittany took the second semester off last year when she had the baby, and this is Brian’s second year in the class. They are continuing to seek the Lord’s guidance as to where He would have them plant a church. Please pray for them as they serve and raise up new leaders at Calvary Chapel Playas. William recently arrived on a surprise visit home! It is so great to see him and spend some time together! He was finally able to meet his new niece. Will is living and working up in Fond du Lac, WI, although he is not enjoying the cold or driving in the snow very much.

Kristy’s parents were finally able to meet their only two great-grandchildren! They came down to visit in November, along with Kristy’s sister, Shannon, and most of her family. Since Joshua was born in Mexico and still doesn’t have all his paperwork, he has not been able to go to the states yet. So this is the only family that our grandchildren have met so far, except for one of Ron’s brothers and his wife. (Philip & MeLinda were able to visit at the end of 2020 and meet Joshua.)

Ministry in 2021

Last year’s ministry looked different, but it was amazing! When the pandemic hit in March of 2020, we watched as all of our spring and summer teams cancelled, except for the 5 week Calvary School of Missions (CSOM) in the summer. Thankfully, through generous donations by you and teams that postponed their trips, we kept super busy! Besides CSOM, we only hosted 8 teams in 2020. That’s a little less than one fourth of the number of teams we normally have in a year. However, we had numerous outreaches and events. We also spent the greater portion of the first six months of that year working on the Upper Room (dining area) and kitchen on the third floor here at Connections House.

Well, 2021 may have only brought us 14 teams, but we had a spectacular year of ministry! We also hosted a youth retreat and 12 events for local churches and ministries this past year. At the end of the year we enclosed the second floor patio and turned it into a meeting & game room. This past year we also added three dorm rooms and about 10 beds, as well as a new living room to our two bedroom apartment. We had about 13 teams postpone their trips until this year, and 10 teams are already booked for the first part of the year. Please pray that they will be able to come and serve with us this year!

Along with the expansion at Connections House, comes the need for more bunk beds, mattresses, sheets & towels. If you would like to help with any of these items, please click here. It would be a tremendous blessing! The goal is to have bed spaces for up to 55 people. Therefore, our next big project at Connections will be an expensive one. It is to remodel the first floor dorm bathroom into two shower rooms, and then add two separate stall rooms with toilets and sinks. This means tearing out a lot of flooring in order to redo and add plumbing. The dorms also need to have the electricity redone, floors reinforced, and more. Little by little, the Lord has provided, and we are certain that He will continue to do so!

Church Planting & Mission Trips

In 2021, we were able to travel a little and help some of our church plants. This was something we had prayed about and longed to do more of for almost five years. It has been amazing to watch so many churches get planted here within about an hour of our church, Calvary Rosarito. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we had to cancel our third annual staff mission trip. We had planned to serve in Monterrey with Pastor Pedro. Please pray that we will be able to reschedule that trip soon so that we can encourage our brothers and sisters over there at CC Monterrey.

As we shared previously, in January of last year we helped some church planters move to the southern part of Baja to plant the church, Calvary Loreto. We didn’t think we could be much help at such an early stage for this church plant, but God had another plan. After looking at some possible buildings for the church right away, the Lord began to reveal what he had in store. We stayed an extra week to help with renovations for the church building, but there was still so much work to be done. We returned home to find out that Ron’s back surgery was postponed, so we took that as a sign that we had more work to do in Loreto. We returned for another couple of weeks to work on the church and help with their grand opening.

The church just celebrated their one year anniversary last week. It’s been amazing to watch how much it has grown! Kristy had the opportunity to take a trip there in May with Brian, Brittany, Joshua, and some friends. They served at a couple of events the church was having, one for women and one for men. They also helped with painting another sign at the church and helping to get the pastor’s office ready by doing some drywalling and painting.

We were super blessed to take trips to three different church plants in November and December. For the first time, the backpacks that are donated reached Baja California Sur & Sonora! However, we will save those trips for our next update. All of this is your fruit and we appreciate your prayer and financial support!! We will leave you with some before and after photos of the church plant in Loreto. God bless!

The two photos on the left show before and after photos of the front of the church. The next set of photos is the sanctuary. It has been expanded three times, and they are already looking at a possible fourth expansion. In the third set of photos you can see the storage shed that was turned into a classroom for the children. Finally, the renovation of the courtyard between the church and storage shed. It looks fantastic, and gets used before and after church for fellowship, as a Sunday School classroom for the older children, and more.

Leaps of Faith

I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the LORD.

Psalm 27:13-14 NASB

Six months ago I was thrown into God’s new direction towards rectifying the 10/40 Imbalance as an Intern with Saving Grace World Missions. Now, I am officially a volunteer Administrative Assistant to the Director of Missionary Equipping, Pastor Tim Pappas! A large leap of faith, but I have never known our God to fail us in any aspect of our lives. He may work differently than we wished, but He has always proved Himself to be faithful.

I am continuing to serving as an intern, but now I am able to devote more time towards the mission field on the admin side, surrounding myself with the “background” work of Missions overseas. This has been extremely valuable experience and one that will be a long term investment for when I get the chance to be on The Field in the coming future.

At the time of sending this update, I am now living month-to-month on missions support and I am going on two cross-border trips in February and April! Praise be to Abba

As life gets more busy with an increased workload, the above verse has been my spiritual manna. I have been struggling with spiritual, emotional swings of great excitement and growth then plunges into overwhelming loneliness and discouragement. But He has proven to draw me closer to Himself. Every day we have to submit our thoughts to Abba and He is our stability in the midst of the temptation to succumb to “youthful lusts” (2 Timothy 2:22) and get sidetracked from what the Lord would have us be apart of right in this season.
“Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!”
How important has this been! His timing and ways are perfect and true. I have been disciplining myself to wait on Him in every decision of life. He has given abundantly in this internship and He is merciful to provide for every need as we pursue His righteousness, faith, love, and peace with all those who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart.

One of the most exciting parts of the training we get as Interns is the chance to GO out into the mission field at home and overseas!

I have had the amazing privilage to be the Administrative Assistant for SGWM’s Central Mexico Missions Trip this February 28 – March 14! I’m saving finances and praying to become a Learner on how to organize future Missionary Equipping trips in the future. Furthermore, I am also actively saving and praying to be apart of a vision trip to the Middle East THIS April!

I truly covet your prayers! Let me know if you have been praying or if there are any ways I can partner with you in prayer. God has joined us together through His blood and we are family in Him to encourage and bear one another’s burdens; I would love to actively be an active part of interceeding for your behalf.

Central Asia Update: Tajikistan

Dashanbe, Tajikistan

Tajikistan is a gorgeous landlocked, mountainous country with Afghanistan in the south, China in the east, Kyrgyzstan in the north, and Uzbekistan in the north. The main languages of Tajikistan are, Tajik (a varient of Persian) and Russian. 97% of Tajiks are Muslim with only less than 0.5% protestant Christian.

Rated 45 on Open Doors USA World Watch List and 17 on Radical’s Stratus index. It is a highly persecuted country in Central Asia. The Muslim majority and a strict authoritarian government hold strong ties to the social and political climate. Christians are restricted in their religious activities and are seen as suspects under close scrutiny as radical and opposition to government ideals. To convert to Christianity after being registered as a Muslim is a very real and dangerous stance MBB (muslim background believers) face. God is working among these people, but we pray for more national labors to be sent into this land of strong government oppression. Pray that our brothers and sisters would be unhindered to grow in maturity, prayer, worship, and sharing His love. We pray that God will use even us to help equip and train nationals to know the Scriptures.

Looking Back on 2021 – Mullins Update

We arrived in Loreto, BCS Mexico with Pastor Elmer and his wife Crystal along with the team from Calvary Rosarito on January 8th to help support the 26th church plant out of Calvary Rosarito, Mexico. We felt the Holy Spirit guiding us to an abandoned building in the center of town. The only issue was it was nothing more than a shell of a building that hadn’t been used for many years. There was no electricity of any sort, no wires, no outlets… nothing. But, the Lord had plans and we all went to work preparing for his church.

Over the next few weeks, the Lord worked through us in amazing ways. The Holy Spirit brought us, people, to help open his church in a mighty way. We patched walls, ran electricity, and painted while the entire town was shut down due to Covid. But, through faith, the team worked day and night to prepare for the opening of Calvary Loreto, chapter by chapter verse by verse teaching.

Within a month, Calvary Loreto had their first Sunday service, February 7th, 2021. We had one outlet and used a ladder as a pulpit, but Pastor Elmer taught his first Bilingual service, verse by verse in Ephesians.

In this small rural fishing town of Loreto, the thirst for truth verse by verse bilingual Bible teaching was exactly what was needed for a community seeking hope and love. Many local churches and businesses closed when the Covid numbers surged but Calvary Loreto remained faithfully open. Walls have come down to expand 4 x’s times throughout this year and we’re currently at capacity and praying on the next steps for expansion.

I am currently leading the children’s ministry with some amazing servant-hearted women. The children’s ministry has grown from just a small table to an entire building. We are teaching age-appropriate classes so the children can learn the word of God at their level. Week after week, the Lord has continued to grow HIS ministry and the children of Loreto are experiencing the love of Jesus. We currently have over 35 children attending every Sunday in our children’s ministry.

We have been blessed to have two women’s conferences this year. At these events, we have an opportunity to invite women throughout the town, to hear and feel the love of Jesus from other woman that otherwise might not have stepped into a Christian church. Many of these women have started attending Calvary Loreto and bringing their families. We began a weekly “Women of Faith” bible study lead by Pastor Elmer’s wife, Crystal.

David was ordained as assistant pastor at Calvary Loreto in May. He immediately began teaching chapter by chapter, verse by verse, the full council of God in the book of “Genesis” at our Wednesday night service. We have seen many lives accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior through the Holy Spirit at our midweek service.

Through Calvary Loreto’s faithfulness and obedience to giving the Gospel message of Salvation every week over 70 New Believers have accepted and given their life to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Week after week, the message of Salvation is given and the Lord keeps multiplying his Kingdom. We have also been blessed to have 20 members of Calvary Loreto take the next steps of faith and be Baptized.

In the Fall, we had our first annual Calvary Loreto Family Campout. We camped at CoCo Beach about a 1 1/2 hour drive outside of Loreto. There were over 70 people that were able to attend and stay overnight. We had devotionals, Live Worship, lots of games, and tons of great food and fellowship. The body of Christ in Loreto continues to grow even while camping. A faithful family invited their parents along to be part of this amazing weekend. On Saturday, they woke up and said, “We want what you have.” At that moment we were able to give them the message of Salvation and they accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

We had our first marriage conference Led by Jeff and Bonnie Johnson. This was such a powerful night for everyone, we focused on God’s design for our marriages and how to create intentional moments of appreciation for one another. There were over 20 couples in attendance for this amazing night.

David and I are currently offering marriage counseling at Calvary Loreto and the Holy Spirit is not only restoring marriages, but we had our first marriage ceremony in July at the church. Additionally, we had 2 couples get engaged on Christmas Eve and were planning our next marriage ceremony for February 2022.

The Christmas Season was incredible, Ron and Kristy were able to come down from The Connection House and bring along backpacks full of toys and warm blankets for the children of Calvary Loreto. We were also able to bring a carload of toys from Las Vegas that our daughter Madison coordinated through her work and blessed over 50 children on our first Christmas service sharing the love of Jesus.

On our mid-week Christmas service, David was able to teach on the Birth of Jesus. When the message of Salvation was offered, 8 people (3 of our youth) gave their lives to Christ. Afterward, we had a potluck dinner with over 140 people staying throughout the evening for fellowship and to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

As we close out 2021, we were once again reminded why we are here in Loreto, Mexico, and why God called us here. We are so thankful for Pastor Elmer’s obedience to following his calling and allowing David and me to take this journey of faith with him. We are thankful for everything the Lord is doing here in Loreto and grateful we can be part of His mighty plan.

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourself.”

James 1:22 (NKJV)

I am thankful at Calvary Loreto we are doers of the word and not just hearers. Thank you Lord Jesus for all that you are doing here in Calvary Loreto and in our lives.

PRAYER REQUEST:

The Past Year and New Vision

“Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people…”

Ruth 1:16-17a

First off, I wish to thank everyone who has partnered with me in prayer by recieving my newsletters. I am incredibly thankful for how the Lord has used each one of you these previous years and this year was no exception.

These past couple of months have been times of reconnecting with family and friends and continuing the work God has provided through the SGWM internship. After the CCA Pastors and Leadership Conference, I went home to Oregon for about a month (Nov. – Dec) to support my family there. This proved to be such an incredible blessing. If prayers of encouragement and healing could be lifted up for my family that would bring much comfort.

One of the erands I got to run for the church with 8 cases of water in my lil’ hatchback

I thank God for the humbling opportunity to be apart of and intern with Calvary Chapel Saving Grace. The church body has been unbelievable in their support and love throughout this last half of the year. And I couldn’t thank each person and leadership personnel enough!

With my heart growing towards Central Asia, lots of research and preparation has been under way in my own life. One of the classes we attended this Fall was Security/Situational Awareness Training. This was a sobering but extremely valuable course. Most of the countries in Central Asia and the Unreached are volatile and can be dangerous places to work in; So, I appreciate experience in classes such as this and will be continuing training in the future.

Loved catching up with friends near and far this season!
Picture with my mother, it was a blessing to be with family in Oregon for a short period of time

A couple of Interns and I had the chance to be a part of a Christmas Muslim Outreach this last year. A highlight from the event, my friend and I talked with a Filipina dancer getting ready to perform an Egyptian style dance. My friend is Egyptian so she was excited to hear the dance she was doing. We talked both Filipino and Egyptian culture and then segued into a gospel conversation. We then invited her to the Muslim event we were helping out at. She was polite and took our invite, but we weren’t able to see her at the event. Prayer for her and for the Lord would continue to offer her divine moments to hear and accept His gospel.

The Event was a huge success and I was glad to interact so closely with our Middle Eastern Brothers and Sisters

As many of you may know, my heart has been stirred for the people of Central Asia. I wish to use this platform to educate and raise awareness for these beautiful people and their spiritual state. This NEXT YEAR I will be implementing in each monthly newsletter, individual updates for each country within Central Asia to better equip us to prayer. I am excited to see what the Lord will do for these people through our prayers and love!

Prayer Points

  • Praise – My family’s health is doing better, but continued prayer is needed
  • Praise – He provides! Each financial hurdle this year has been abundantly provided
  • Praise – Each one of YOU. Your support and prayer is amazing and this last year was such a testament! May God give more and more blessings and faith to each one as we labor in the Gospel together.
  • Petition – A Vision Trip to the Middle East is coming up in Spring; financial and logistical provision is needed. I am about 50% of the way to my goal! – This would be a time of seeking the Lord and His vision for my involvement in the Middle East. Perhaps it is a stop along the way? A training ground for the Muslim-Majority of Central Asia?
  • Petition – For Central Asia: A team and wisdom is needed to proceed with making moves to reaching the Unreached. Please be praying for support and partners in the Gospel.

I love and appreciate each one of you! Your my family in Christ and I couldn’t ask for better partners. How great is our LORD!

Many blessings and love from Him who is worthy of All Praise

Raising Up, Equipping, Sending, Supporting

National Missionaries

There are some places on this earth where the statistics are so discouraging it’s hard to believe God is doing anything at all there.

And so we celebrate with hearts full of praise and thanksgiving for all that God is doing in Pakistan. The main religion in Pakistan is Islam and accounts for 96.47% of the population. Only 1.27% are Christians. But God is powerfully moving in this part of the world through one of our national workers, Pastor Nadeem. He and his wife have been actively discipling and raising up believers for many years. Churches are being planted, people’s hearts are being set free, and God’s word is being soundly taught. Most of the existing Christianity in Pakistan is either Catholic or hyper-Pentecostal. They do not know the word and Pastor Nadeem is committed to getting the whole counsel of God into the hearts and minds of these believers. After working with SGWM for about 7 years, he was ordained by SGWM pastors and from there he was able to plant two churches, one in his village and one in another. Nadeem has a very busy schedule.

Two days a week he is teaching online classes to three different groups in two different cities, as well as other individuals from other cities. Every Saturday he leads a class at his home, teaching theology, apologetics and missions. He and his team have an open door to go and share God’s word in a desert area near his home. Here they are reaching many unreached people with Bibles, song books, audio Bibles and the teaching of God’s Word. And this isn’t the only outreach they are involved in. They also have a ministry to brick makers where one of the brothers, Brother Joseph, visits and teaches, ministering to this very poor community. During Covid, with the help of SGWM, Pastor Nadeem and his team were able to bring much needed relief to this area on more than one occasion. They are seeing lives totally changed through the simple teaching of God’s Word because of the time they spend here just loving the people.

And even with all of these things, Pastor Nadeem is also able to devote himself to producing books to equip believers there. He has written 2 books, one on Christian Apologetics and one on Mormonism, as well as compiled 4 other books in Urdu which are helpful to understand the Bible. He also has a recording ministry where his team is recording Bible classes and other teaching resources to share with other believers. God is doing incredible things through Nadeem’s ministry despite heavy oppression and persecution. We praise God that we can partner with such a brother for the furtherance of the gospel. Please pray for Nadeem’s ministry as he faithfully serves the Lord.

Missionary Equipping

After the first year of the Calvary School of Missions, we quickly realized that these young graduates were in need of further support and a full missions program in order to get them successfully out onto the missions field. So we began to design an internship program specifically for those called to full-time, cross-cultural ministry. It is now our 3rd year of the internship and we have 18 interns serving at Calvary Chapel Saving Grace, learning what it means to run a church and lead successfully. We knew originally we were called to catch fireflies (those young people who feel called to full time missions and desire to be the light in dark places), but we soon realized that they needed more than the six-week School of Missions.

These students need a comprehensive program that will keep them on the path to follow their passion and calling to go into all the world and preach the gospel. Sadly, we have seen many young people who once had a passion to go, lose their way because they just didn’t have the support they needed or the ongoing encouragement essential for this kind of call. So we are committed to making sure all those who come through the school have the option of an internship that will help them fulfill their call in the Great Commission. Please pray for these 18 students as they seek to grow in their faith and pursue their calling to reach the ends of the earth with the gospel.

“Once a missionary call is sensed, one must do everything possible to nurture and stimulate it. Read, go to meetings, attend missions conferences. Keep the fire alive; the devil will try to snuff it out” On Being a Missionary (pg.22).

Our call is to do everything possible to nurture and keep the fire alive in the hearts of these young called out ones! Pray for them as they prepare to GO and share Jesus to the ends of the earth.

We graduated our 3rd batch of students from the Calvary School of Missions and we are looking forward to all that God has for these brothers and sisters. Many of them have joined our internship program. Please pray for these new interns as they adjust to their busy schedule

Sending Missionaries and Missionary Care

This last season has brought home many of our missionaries serving all over the world. From Peru, Cambodia, India and more, families have come home to share with their sending churches and hopefully get some much needed rest and relaxation. Although they don’t normally get that, we at Calvary Chapel Saving Grace do our best to bring some relief and minister to the families we have sent out. One of our families from South Asia has been home on furlough and we have been so blessed to host them. The area where they minister has been hit very hard with the Corona Virus and has suffered greatly from severe lockdowns.

Being here has brought so much comfort and relief. Pastor S. says it’s like he can breathe again. His children can go to the park and play, see friends their age, and walk around without masks for the first time in 20 months. This month we had them share at a dessert gathering where family and friends gathered to hear all that God has been doing since the pandemic started. It was thrilling to hear the stories of many continuing the work of the ministry and people still coming to the Lord even during the shut downs. We spent time praying over them as they continue the work amongst the most unreached peoples of the world.

All For Christ,
