Sharing With the Unreached – Pastor Majhiya Update December 2023

God spoke this word in my heart. The Holy Spirit says “Don’t be afraid for I am with you. I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Our group is small in number, but we are not losing our hope in Christ. We are trusting in Jesus during all of our difficult circumstances so that we can rejoice in the Lord.

I thank God for His wonderful work in my life. I am blessed by His grace and abundant blessings in my life and ministry.

Sharing the Gospel

I have been working in the Eastern part of the country and holding Calvary Chapel church services. I preach the Gospel among the unreached people here and in some areas near a bordering country. I spend a lot of my time preaching and sharing the Gospel. While sharing the Gospel, I personally meet and share the Gospel with people who have never heard the Gospel.

Those Accepting the Gospel

The newest update about my church is that two people accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Praise God for this wonderful work in the ministry! Pray that the man who accepted Jesus as His Savior can also come to church and grow spiritually as I lead and teach the Word of God.

Children’s fellowship

We are also doing some children’s ministry and in-home Bible study.

Thanks be to our God! I would also like to thank you all, the entire team of Saving Grace World Missions, and all those who are supporting the ministry. Thank you for coming alongside me and my family and raising us up in Christ both physically and spiritually.

Short Visits – Pastor Prakash Update December 2023

“If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.”

(John 15:19 NKJV)

Calvary Chapel J* (above)

Preaching the Gospel has been becoming increasingly harder all around the world. This is true in our country as well. The news came that some Christians were put in jail and treated disrespectfully in the state where our brother Nikesh’s family is serving. After hearing this, I made my way to meet with pastor Nikesh’s family to be with them, encourage them, spend time in prayer with them and have a time of sweet fellowship with them. We had a great time there.

Calvary Chapel H*

On our way back to the capital, we visited pastor Laxman’s family and the church members there (above). We spent time in prayer with them. We always love to visit with them and pray together.

Youth Inductive Bible Study

We had a great time with the youth at our church in the capital (above). We taught them the Inductive Bible Study Method to help them better understand the Word of God.

Church House Fellowship

One of our Calvary Bible Institute students, Bikal, shared from the Word in a house fellowship (above). It is always a pleasure to see our dear ones growing in and falling in love with God’s Word and maturing in the Lord.

God Is at Work through Short-Term Missions!

Short-Term Mission Team

Last month, we had a short-term mission team visit. We had great quality time with them. We would like to thank those who sent the short-term mission team to our country to expand God’s work here. Sometimes God can use a short-term mission trip for people to receive His vision. At the same time, God might draw people towards Him through the trip as well. During the short-term mission, we come out of our comfort zone and experience the need of Gospel while we serve God. Short-term missions are important and worthwhile.

Saturday Worship Service at Calvary Chapel H*

Pastor Jeff shared from the Word (above). It was a wonderful and blessed time.

Children Ministry at Calvary Chapel H*

We invited only children. But the children’s mothers also came and attended the whole program. It was a great opportunity for us to share the Good News with them.

We are thankful to sister Leah for her heart and courage for the children! We are so encouraged having seen her enthusiasm for God’s work. We have seen her vigor and are encouraged to serve alongside her.

Marriage Conference at H* (above)

Marriage Conference at Our Church in the Capital

We had a blessed and wonderful time at the marriage conference (above). We would like to thank the short-term team for great and relevant teaching.

Outreach Ministry at Lepers Colony (above)

We had a great time of outreach and worship with our dear ones at the Lepers Colony. We are thankful to sister Ali for sharing her testimony at the outreach. It really touched hearts.

Ministry in the Slum

It was not an easy thing to enter as a new person into the slum area. However, after a while the slum area became a place filled with an aroma when the team saw God’s presence and the need for ministry there.

Church Youth Ministry

It was good to have brother Derek to share from the Word and encourage the youth in our country (above).

Blessings!

Blessed in Ministry – Pastor 16 Update December 2023

Praise the Lord!

Greetings to you in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you, dear supporters and prayer partners, for your prayers and financial support. We are praying for your family and your country. By the grace of God my family and I are doing well. God has kept us safe.

Last month I got chance to organize a one-day youth meeting. God helped the youth to gather there. 200 youth came to the meetings. It was a great time with them to learn the Word of God and worship the Lord.

We also conducted a Bible quiz last month. Our church participated and took a test on the books of Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther.

Last month I got the chance to lead praise and worship organized by the Christians from the district.
I also got the chance to council people from the Word of God and pray for the sick.
Our church also organized a story telling competition. It was a joy and blessing for them to participate and get prizes.

Prayer Requests

  • Please pray for my children to grow in Lord’s fear and knowledge.
  • Please pray that the Lord will intervene in the problem the world is facing.
  • Please pray for the local village ministry. May they grow in Lord’s Word.

Blessings,

Pastor 16* and Family

Reaching this Generation – Pastor Milan Update December 2023

Youth Conference

What a wonderful youth conference we had this past month! I would like to give thanks to God for His provision and His favor upon me as I lead our District Youth Community. This was the first time we invited our country’s Calvary Bible Institute Director, Pastor Anand. He taught verse-by-verse. Many of the students from CBI were able to join this conference. They sang for the youth and encouraged them to come to the Bible college. I was also able to teach to the youth committee members, choir team, volunteers, and some pastors. Approximately 500 young adults attended this 3-day conference. The pastors taught on the theme “The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Knowledge.” We thank you for praying for and supporting us to reach this generation and equip them to lead the church in the future. Glory to God!

2023 Calvary Bible Institute Graduation

We were so blessed to graduate 10 students from our Bible College this year. It is a great joy to be a part of their lives. We are so encouraged to raise up young people in this Bible college. We want to invest our lives into the students’ lives. We are thankful to all of the people who partner with us. I was reminded that I am blessed to have graduated 8 years ago. It was a wonderful time in my life.

Keep praying for these young people to have a blessed time with God. We were able to send 2 students from our area to CBI. They graduated this year. We hope that they will be doing great things for the Lord in the future.

Please keep us in your prayers. We are heading to the mountains in December to host a conference and hike to remote places to share the good news. We will also be hosting a Christmas outreach with our church and inviting the community to come. Pray that many will come to hear the Christmas Story and know Christ.

Thank you,

Milan

God’s Faithfulness – Pastor Raju Update December 2023

Thanks be to God! He has done wonderful things in and through my life. God has blessed me and the ministry abundantly.

I am serving in a northern mountainous area. As I am serving at the Calvary Chapel here, God is bringing an increase to our church. Currently, we are having fellowship in two places. One place lies in a valley and the other is on top. God is working in these areas. I am blessed that He is using us.

This year, a Calvary Chapel group visited us and shared the Gospel in the majority of the villages here. We were privileged to share the Gospel through various means, including programs and children’s ministry. Many have heard the Gospel and are believing in Jesus. One person with kidney failure is also coming to church along with his family. I want to thank the Calvary Chapel team for helping minister in our area.

“Eyes has not seen, nor ear has heard, nor have entered into the ears of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

1 Cor. 2:9

Currently, there is at least one church in every village in the northern of a certain region of our country. The Gospel has been preached in many ways. But the current church needs proper teaching of the Word of God. My wife and I are praying and making plans for the same.

In December of this year, we are hosting a youth and pastors’ conference at a church there. We have been praying for this for a long time. The Calvary Chapel team is also coming to this conference. This village is at a higher altitude than our village. Reaching there is a challenge. It is also the place of my in-laws’ house.

Currently, my wife and I are serving in the church at the top of the mountain. Each week we have a women’s fellowship, a youth fellowship, a children’s fellowship, and a mid-week house fellowship. I also visit the church in the valley and my in-laws’ church for the ministry of the Word.

I thank all of you for helping us.

Blessings,

Pastor Raju and Srijana

Praising God for His Blessings – Pastor 8 Update December 2032

Praise the Lord,

I hope that all of you are doing well by the grace of God. By your prayers, we are also doing well. I thank God for his faithfulness and love. I request all of you to keep praying for us so that we may serve the Lord fervently.

Pray that God’s will and plans be fulfilled in future. I have put everything in God’s hands and am waiting and praying and remaining steadfast. I ask you all to pray for me to have open doors to minister in new areas, places and villages.

I thank God for the wonderful time that we spent in another state with the other SGWM pastors. It was really a motivational and encouraging meeting. Every morning we had a morning devotion together. We read from the book of Proverbs and each one shared.

I thank God because He fulfilled my desires during the trip out of state. I had the desire to be able to go to that state sometime in my life. This was my first journey to that state.

I would like to thank those of you who helped financially to make our trip successful. May the Lord bless you and fulfill all of your needs!!!

Every day I pray for the hands who are helping us financially and supporting us in our ministry. May the good God bless all of you abundantly!!!

Prayer Requests:

  • Please continue pray for the believers.
  • Please continue pray for the situation in our state.
  • Please continue pray for open doors in new places to share the Gospel.
  • Pray for me to have good health.

In the Lord,

Your Brother,

Pastor 8* and Family

Pearls in the Dirt – Pastor 7 Update December 2023

Dear Friends and Family,

It always gives me great joy to be able to share with you all that our Lord is doing! Thank you for your faithful prayers and for joining with me in the Kingdom work that is happening here in South Asia. Your prayers and words of encouragement give me the strength to continue moving forward as we take ground for the Gospel.

The days here have been long and busy. That has provided great opportunities to reach many people for God. I am seeing how the Lord has allowed me to have fellowship with families through their children.

I have been building a relationship with a particular family through their son, K*. I regularly visit his home and often I help tutor this young boy. Sometimes we even play games. These meetings have been great because while I am there, I am also able to meet his parents and family and share God’s Word with them. By building these relationships and gaining their friendships, the families see that I care about them. They give me opportunities to minister to them and share with them about Jesus.

I am so happy that God is sending me to the people who live in very remote areas and who usually don’t have visitors from the cities. They realize there is someone who wants to visit them, talk to them, and not expect anything from them. For the first time, they are experiencing the love of God. Whenever we go to these villages, the children recognize us and become so happy. We can see how much they love us as they run to us. God is definitely building this relationship with the people. We are teaching them based on their age. They are learning about Jesus, Sunday school songs, and memory verses from the Bible. We usually finish the time with some snacks and fellowship. I am seeing how they are growing in knowledge of God and it blesses me to see them invite and bring their friends to join us.

Your Attractive Heading

There is a great woman named Pr* that I met at the bus station recently. She was a homeless widow who was staying at the bus station with a few of her things because she had nowhere to go. God impressed on my heart to talk to her. I learned that she did have property in her name, but that because she is a widow and no one is with her, some local politicians and government authorities took her property forcefully. She had no help or power to fight against them, so she was left with nothing.

However, she did not give up. She fought with the government officer a little bit and was now given a temporary room to stay in. When she found this room, she invited me over and wanted to make me some food. It was an emotional moment because when I saw her for the first time it was at the bus station where no one wanted to talk to her. However, because she is a believer, she has a desire to share her life with people. This allowed me to witness God’s goodness in her life. She is alone in life, a widow with no family. She is completely dependent on God. He is making her alive every single day! He is the One that is protecting her and providing for her. It is a big blessing to see how God cares about widows and people who are abandoned by society. It is a beautiful reminder that He never forgets people or abandons them.

One thing that makes me really happy in my ministry is when I find young men and women who are non-believers. After sharing the Gospel with them, they are open to reading the Bible. Then, because they are clearly spending time reading the Bible, we have some great fellowship as I share and explain to them more about God’s Word. It is an honor to explain it to them and tell them that what is written is for them, and for me, and for all of humanity. I have a beautiful time with them.

Many times I travel very far on my motorcycle. There are many days when I cannot even get water to drink. But when I meet people like these who are very open to the Gospel and to God’s Word, it is like finding pearls in the dirt. The difficulties become so small. I am finding many pearls for God’s Kingdom. I am excited for all of the men and women I am encountering in my ministry. I am thinking of them, praying for them, and following up with them. God has been doing great things in this ministry and I want to keep going forward.

Meeting with the children and finding these men and women is worth the tiredness and long days. The struggles are taken away when I consider what God is doing. My soul is filled with so much joy that God gives me. I am refreshed and want to continue to move forward and continue to find these rare pearls in these far villages. God’s desire is that none perish but that all come to a saving knowledge. I am seeing how He is working and pursuing His people.

Thank you for joining me on this journey as we labor together for God’s kingdom, and as we seek all of the hidden pearls He is preparing.

God bless,

Pastor 7*

Restore the Years – Record Family December 2023 Update

“So I will restore the years the swarming locusts have eaten.”

Joel 2:25
I turned 47 on November 25 and Benjamin turned 15 on November 29.

Restoring the Years Part 1

With the passing of mine and Benjamin’s birthdays and the upcoming Christmas and New Year, we realize that God has blessed us a lot during this year. At the beginning of 2023, we went through our worst financial crises ever to the point that it looked like we might have to leave Cambodia permanently. God provided in mysterious and miraculous ways and we were able to have a most blessed visit to the USA for the first time since before Covid.

For me personally, God is restoring the years in relation to my health and weight. Growing up, my relationship with food (overeating/stress-eating) wasn’t good and I had asthma so I couldn’t exercise enough and developed a weight problem. Between 2000-2003 while serving in Cambodia as an English teacher/missionary, God took away my asthma and I was able to exercise and so I lost enough weight during that season to run a half-marathon here in Cambodia. However, in 2003 upon returning to the USA I got sick for the first time with my chronic brain disorder and between the medicine and the ensuing depression, I started to regain the weight that I lost and more, and this continued for 20 years. Finally, God provided all the tools (a smartwatch/calorie counting app from friends and know-how from Benjamin) and I have started an effective but sustainable lifestyle change in regards to, diet and exercise. So far, I have lost 25 pounds since October 21! I still have a long way to go so please pray for stamina in this process to lose the weight and then keep it off over the long-term.

Restoring the Years Part 2

Between 2004 and 2015 my brain-disorder symptoms were healed enough for me to live without medicine, but then since it came back in 2015, I have needed medicine and went through years of being minimally functional yet with severe depression in which I could just do the minimum to survive. As a result of this and other factors, I wasn’t able to actively raise the funds we needed and so we have fallen behind financially. Here are some areas that need to be restored.

  1. Benjamin’s Christian High School Tuition is our largest unavoidable expense by nearly triple. In meeting this expense, we are unable to fund other important needs on this list and we are uncertain if we can meet the projected increases over the next 3.5 years.
  2. Housing Upgrade: Our current two-bedroom apartment is getting too small for us, has maintenance issues, and we are in a losing battle with cockroaches. Also Benjamin’s bedroom doesn’t have a window and he needs more space.
  3. Benjamin’s Launch Fund: Benjamin will have to return to the USA after graduation in 3.5 years and will need housing, transportation, and set-up funds at that time.
  4. Retirement/Savings: Most of our senders are older than us so we are concerned that they will not be able to support us in our senior years. We want to continue to minister as long as we are able and don’t want to be a burden on anyone during our senior years.
  5. Resume Family Vacations: Because of Benjamin’s tuition and our financial crises, we haven’t been able to take any family vacations for around 1.5 years. This is especially important while Benjamin is still with us.
  6. Transportation: Our 1997 Toyota Camry has a slipping transmission and is on secondhand tires. We need to be able to maintain it as needed and potentially replace it in a few years.
  7. Ministry Funds: There are so many needs and exciting ministry opportunities in Cambodia that we would like to pursue when God provides sufficient funds to meet our needs and expand our ministry impact. 1. Resume International Fishers evangelistic/apologetics video production etc. 2. Help launch Light Association’s training/publication/resource ministries including to people with mental illness and their families. 3. Help expand Hope Ministry’s impact in two impoverished Cambodian communities. 4. Continue to volunteer and support Precious Women’s work with at-risk Cambodian women. 5. Expand our support of Bethel Grace Mission’s work with impoverished Cambodians who live in graveyards. 6. Encourage and equip local churches even more.
Kayo teaching a lesson on “Hope in Christ” to at-risk Cambodian young women.

Ministry Update

We have been very busy since our last update in the middle of October. Kayo and I continued our volunteer-work at Precious Women. Kayo did administrative work, led staff devotions, and taught the clients (young at-risk women) life skills lessons including “Hope in Christ.” I helped with video production and led devotions.

Kayo continues to lead the women’s ministry at the international church and led an over night women’s retreat. I preached twice, helped with Chinese Bible Study and led the men’s ministry.

I also continue to serve as the English editor for Light Times Magazine, the only Christian magazine in Cambodia. We have a new issue coming out this month so things will get busier with that.

I also am preparing to start teaching Apologetics/Evangelism at another Cambodian seminary founded by Korean missionaries starting this week.

December is the month in which we must renew our Cambodian visas so please pray for wisdom and favor in this high-stakes process. Gathering all the documents each year feels like taking on another job.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!

In Christ’s Love,

Darryl, Kayo, and Benjamin

The God of All Grace Will Strengthen You – Pastor 3 Update December 2023

Dear Ministry Partners,

Greetings to you all in the matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”

1 Peter 5:10

Last month we all suffered from a viral fever. My wife especially suffered and was seriously ill for almost 25 days. Because of that she was quite weak physically. However, God in His mercy, healed all of us and restored our strength. We express our heartfelt thanks to God almighty for His abundant grace, and that He protected our lives and provided for our needs. We appreciate for your valuable prayers and financial support. We remember you and your family in our daily thoughts and prayers. May the good God bless you with all resources and good health.

For the past several months, Christians in our country have been going through many challenges and trials because of the religious nationalism agenda by the ruling party. In November there are elections in 5 states of our country. We are praying and hoping for a change in our government, so that believers may have the freedom to worship and to share their faith.

I was privileged to be invited to a Central Synergy Summit. We had a wonderful discussion about the growth and failures of missions in the central area of our country. I also led a session on challenges and solutions in the mission field in practical ways. We had very effective discussions. During the summit, I ran into a first fruit from my ministry, SA* (right). He is a wonderful man and is now doing ministry with his family. I also met three other friends (pictured below) who all are doing ministry in different parts of the central area of our country. I was so pleased to see them after such a long time.

In October, we completed our 3rd semester of CBI. Because of the election in our state, we are starting our 4th semester on November 20th. As a family we participate in all the church activities and visit families to testify about the Lord and pray for them. We also take the CBI students on home visitation as part of their practical training.

Prayer Requests:

  • Kindly pray for the upcoming election. May good leaders come to power, so that all of the believers may have freedom to worship and share about Jesus’ love.
  • Please pray for SA* (a first fruit of my ministry) and the friends that I saw at the summit. Pray that God will use them effectively for His kingdom.
  • Kindly pray for the growth of our church.
  • Please pray that we may get suitable land for our church.
  • Kindly pray for me and my family–may the Lord use us for the expansion of His kingdom.

Thank you very much for your prayers and support!

In Him,

Pastor 3* and Family

At the Apex – Root Update November 2023

As of the time in which I write you this update, we are 58 days from getting on a plane and moving our life to Japan. We are 75% funded as far as our recurring monthly needs are concerned, so please pray about partnering with us financially. And to all of you who have gotten behind us, and have helped to encourage and get us to this point, thank you and may the Lord bless you mightily for your commitment and care for us.

Hello, this is Alishia Root, and I am about to become a missionary wife. It has taken roughly 6 years to arrive at the gate of launching out as full-time missionaries. It’s been a time spent learning about culture and learning how to be ministry workers. The days have been full of change, adaptation, and reconstruction as we grow in our understanding of God’s heart for the unreached. The part we as the church are to play, as both goers and senders, in fulfilling the great commission. And most importantly growing in our understanding of His gracious love for us personally.

This is the analogy I use to illustrate and understand the life of a missionary … Remember the first time you wanted to tackle a big roller coaster? There was promise of thrill and some unknowing apprehension, but it seemed fun, so why not? So you get in line, and the line is rather long. You wonder if you will get to the ride head before the day is over ( I equate this to the waiting period of a young missionary), but it is moving so you just settle in and move along inch by inch. At some point the coaster is on top of you, and people are screaming. Then your time comes, you sit down willingly, and you get strapped in (those straps for a missionary are the prayers of the saints). And you start climbing that hill, click…Click…CLICK, up it goes. At this point there are all sorts of feelings and emotions, some excitement, some apprehension. Then you reach the top and whoosh down. You plunge into the places the ride is going to take you (or in this case the Holy Sprit). And then you get off and you realize you kind of want to do it all again.

My idea of what missions is, and what a missionary is tasked with, has grown and the weight of the task ahead has sunk in. Along with the size of the task ahead, my understanding of God’s sovereignty and hand leading has grown as well. I find myself looking back to all the trials and moments of growth that not just the last 6 years, but a lifetime, has prepared me for, all leading up to this moment. I think about the way my dad taught me as a young girl to use chopsticks in a game of picking up peas. Or how the reserved and pragmatic nature of Jeff’s parents, trained him up in a mindset very similar to the Japanese mind. I have thought of the ways the Lord has allowed me to experience a level of culture shock moving from rural Montana with its “Montana time” (if you know, you know) to the fast-paced scheduled out calendar of being an intern at a busy California church.

I have been blessed to love lives of people that serve the Lord all over this planet. I have been blessed with experiences I never expected to have. I have seen not just my husband, but other young missionaries learn to be missionaries, pastors, and ministry workers. There have been friends made. There have been moments that the Lord’s voice has been so sure. There has been fellowship in a depth that amazed me. There has been learning to support others and learning to be a wife that holds up a husband that has expectation on him.

And there has been costs to be paid. For every life I have been given the joy to love, I now place at Jesus’ feet as I will be separated by an ocean. There has been ministry lessons that have broken my heart. And personal trials that have brought me to my knees. But learning to be on your knees is the posture required of every missionary, so I rejoice in the lessons and shaping of Jesus.

So, it’s all led up to this point. We are strapped onto this rollercoaster and clicking up that hill. Please pray for all we have ahead of us.
