Becoming a Balloon Animal Artisan For Jesus

These past few weeks have flown by and I’ve had a lot of time to learn this week. Our week started out with the Purpose of the Church and writing newsletters. Writing my Newsletter was a blast, I had a lot of fun putting jokes in it and yet put a lot of thought into stirring up the body of Christ for good works. After writing an absolutely brilliant newsletter (opinions may vary), the whole team got ready for the outreach with Calvary Chapel Home X. It took us about an hour to set up and then the families flooded in. I then got to making balloon animals and boy those kids wanted those balloon animals. Left and right I was making balloon animals with my trusty assistant Jacob. The kids started to get crazy with their orders and it was difficult to know what they wanted without a translator and my approximately 11 words of Spanglish. Let’s just say I got a lot of blank stares. But apart from the confusion it was again such a pleasure to love on those kids and see their adorable smiles when they got what they wanted. But the kids didn’t just leave with balloon animals, they got to hear the story of Noah and the Ark taught by me. Not that my teaching was anything special or rivaled David Guzik or Spurgeon, it was such a joy to teach the kids about how God saved Noah and gave him a promise to never flood the Earth again and how God has a plan to save us through faith in Him. Not only did they learn about how God has a plan to save us, but by what means He plans to accomplish that. Just like God delivered Noah by means of the Ark, God delivers us by means of Jesus’s death on the cross. Just like God made Noah a promise to never flood the Earth again, God makes us a promise that if we believe in Him He will save us (John 3:16). After the time of teaching the kids did some crafts and ended the outreach after we ate nachos.

Class Time

During this week I had the pleasure of listening to many workers in the 10/40 window. Unfortunately, due to the sensitive countries they work in I cannot share names. Nonetheless, God used one of the pastors to remind me of how you and I need grace. This was so refreshing at a time in which I was beaten down by condemnation. It seemed as though everything I did or thought, the enemy used as ammunition to condemn me. This weighed me down for days and days until the pastor began to go off about grace. This may have seemed like a tangent during a class about ministering to Muslims but the Lord used it to minister to me. Not only was my soul refreshed but also challenged to grow in establishing good spiritual disciplines. The pastor called this tool R.P.G and no not a rocket launcher, it stands for Real Plan for Growth. It’s a simple tool for establishing practical disciplines for spiritual growth. I encourage you to look at it and see what the Lord challenges you to grow in. Not only did the pastor teach us how to grow in spiritual disciplines but taught us about our sin nature and how the new nature that Christ has given us is at war with the old nature of sin. The pastor taught me that in Christ we are new creations and therefore we have a new nature however, there still remains the old nature. This is where the conflict comes in. Often times our sin nature will act up and give us sinful thoughts that make us feel terrible. The pastor taught me that because I am a new creation in Christ these thoughts are not from me but from the un-redeemed un-regenerate side of me that all believers have. These thoughts can often be used by the enemy to make us believe we aren’t saved or condemn us. With this information the pastor taught us that the way to combat this is to remember the truth about ourselves as well as surrender these thoughts to the Lord and recognize that the enemy will use it to condemn us but to remember that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Prayer

One thing that you and I need is prayer and lots of it. I appreciate all your prayers and would love to partner with you in prayer. If you feel led please share with me some of your prayer requests so I can know how to pray for you as well. With all that said these are some of the ways you can be praying for me and the people around me.

  • Pray for the CSOM team for healing of a stomach bug that’s going around
  • Pray for the outreaches this week
  • Pray for me that the Lord would give me the words to speak at the next outreach
  • Pray for blessings for the Connections house who have blessed us with a lovely place to stay
  • Pray for the teaching of the Word in the 10/40 window

Crazy Week of Outreach

Last week was crazy! There were so many things happening! On top of all our classes and meetings, we got to do 3 outreaches. On Tuesday we went to a dump to minister with Calvary Chapel Home X. It was a humbling experience to see the conditions that people live in, yet a good reminder that Christ is our true riches. The next outreach we did was with Calvary Chapel Rosarito in a small park. I was tasked with making balloon animals for the kids. After many failed attempts I made a simple dog. It wasn’t anything fancy or good but it still brought a smile to a little girl so I would say it accomplished its task. At the end of the park outreach, I had the opportunity to pray for a group of younger guys who my friend Marcelo had shared the gospel with. Then, on Saturday we had our last and longest outreach of the week. We arrived at 2:00 at Calvary Chapel La Gloria where we canvased the area around the church inviting people to the outreach. Despite my Spanish vocabulary amounting to about 10 words, I was able to invite plenty of people. Then we came back to the Church and I got to making balloon animals again. After a while, we had a decent crowd of about 50 kids and adults. At this point, we split the kids and adults into two separate groups. The kids went absolutely ballistic during their time of worship. Then they got to see Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. Once the adults had heard the gospel, we all gathered to eat some BBQ and watch the Jesus Revolution. Overall, the outreaches were such good learning experiences for all of the students.

What I’ve Been Learning.

During the first week, I learned a lot through the devotionals, teachings, and services. One of the things that struck me during the classes was the purpose of why we gather as a church. It was a bit of a moment of epiphany for me. During the Purpose of the Church class, when studying the Great Commission passages (Matt 28:18, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:46, John 20:21-23 Acts 1:8) I realized the reason why we as Christians gather is to be equipped to evangelize and make disciples of all nations and the reason we study the word and pray together is simply to use for the purpose of making disciples of all nations. A simple way to think of it is the church is like the training grounds and beyond the church is where we all do our part to fulfill the Great Commission. This truth has really been firing me up to reach the unreached people groups of the world. We learned in class that there are about 3 billion people that have no access to the gospel. The relationship we have with Christ they have no access to. This was a difficult thing to hear because it feels so hopeless. But praise God that isn’t the end of the story. God has a plan to reach those who don’t know Him and it’s through people like you and I. Admittedly there is a lot of work to be done but with God all things are possible. I’m excited to see how God will use me and you in this plan and can’t wait to learn more.

How Can You Help?

Pray. Throughout the course of the school, we have learned the importance of prayer and I would love to invite you to join me in this way. Here are some things you can be praying for.

  • Pray for the students and staff of Calvary School of Missions (CSOM)
  • Pray for the 3 billion unreached people that the Lord would send people to reach them
  • Pray for the classes (that the information would be remembered and received)
  • Pray for the park Outreach with Home Ex on Tuesday
  • Pray for some good rest
  • Pray for me that I would get opportunities to share the gospel
  • Pray the Lord would reveal where He is calling me
  • Prayerfully consider if the Lord would call you

Thank you all for your prayers and support I appreciate them all. If the Lord has encouraged or blessed you by reading this please feel free to reach out to me and share what the Lord has encouraged you in. If you would like to partner with me financially there will be a link below where you can give. Thank you again and God bless you.

We Made It To Mexico!

Calvary School of Missions 2023

Dear Friends and Family in Christ,

This is my first newsletter from Mexico! We left Calvary Chapel Saving Grace after the second service and arrived in Mexico around noon. From there we applied for our Visas and drove down to Rosarito where we are staying in the Connections House. We then had a time of prayer and worship, where we surrendered our plans for our lives and made ourselves available to the Lord. At the time when I am writing this, we have had our first day of classes with Pastor Trent Douglass. We learned about the call of Jesus to follow Him wherever He goes. After that class, we had some good refried beans, rice, and chicken for lunch, then enjoyed a time of fellowship with one another. Afterward, we had another class talking about building support and why it is a necessity for mission work. These two classes have taught me a lot about the complexity and simplicity of biblical missions. I’m super excited to see what the Lord will do with the remaining 6 weeks of Calvary School of Missions.

Areas of Prayer?

As I embark on this 6-week journey with Calvary School of Missions, I expect it will be difficult physically, mentally, and spiritually. As we go out to do outreach, I expect there will be attacks from the enemy toward me and the people around me. I ask that you partner with me in prayer for these 6 weeks for the people we will be ministering to via outreach and in the various churches, as well as for me and the other students and faculty. I ask that you partner with me in prayer as we go out to minister and are ministered to. Thank you all for all your prayers and support. I appreciate it all. If you would like to partner with me financially, there will be a link at the bottom of this post. Thank you.

Love,

Caleb Sanchez

A Time of Preparation

During my time at Calvary Bible Institute (CBI), the Lord has stirred my heart for missions. Though it was the last thing I desired to do coming into CBI, the Lord has begun to work in my heart for the lost and unreached. It was through the Purpose of the Church class taught by Trent Douglas that the Lord began to stir my heart for the Unreached. After leaving that class there was a burning desire to see the Gospel impact the lives of the unreached. However, the question remains where does the Lord desire me to go?

The question seems daunting but I am reminded of the Lord’s faithfulness over and over again to reveal His will to me. This reminder comforts me and encourages me to prepare myself for the time ahead. I believe my time at the School of Missions, which is a 6-week program in Mexico which will prepare me for what the Lord is calling me to do as we study the book of Acts and learn about biblical missions. As I continue to seek Him and let Him do His work in me I trust He will reveal where He wants me to go. So what has the Lord been doing?

As I look ahead to the upcoming month I see an open door to spending time reaching out to my community. At the moment all I can do is think up ideas of ways to reach my community with the Gospel. I pray that the Lord would open up the doors for me and a couple of other young adults to do ministry out in the public parks. One idea that I’m praying about is having a free barbeque and live music with a gospel message to reach my community. Prayerfully, the Lord will provide all that is needed to do this outreach and more.

How can you help?

During this time of preparation, I could use prayer for many things. First, please pray for the Lord to continue to protect me from the attacks of the enemy. You can also be praying for the Lord to provide people to aid in this outreach and for the Lord to protect them. Lastly, pray that the Lord would reveal His will for my life and that He would strengthen me to do His will.

Thank you so much for all your prayers and support. I really do appreciate you taking the time to pray for me and the ministries the Lord has given me.
