Happy New Year!
Part 1
Thank you to everyone who takes time out of their busy day to read our little blog! We love sharing the great things God is doing in the lives of the folks we serve here in Mexico. In our last blog, I had the pleasure of posting some great pictures of some of our travels visiting other Christians in Costa Rica and Central Mexico! We even got to take a little vacation and visit Cancun for a weekend. But truthfully, the heart of our work, purpose and calling is to love people and help them grow in their relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Transforming Lives
We get to walk with people in their joys and grief. Some folks seem to grow fast and mature like bamboo! Others grow like Oak trees. Some seem to quit growing and abandon the circle of blessing only to struggle, fall and cry out for another chance!
This is my friend Hector. I’ve known him the past 4 years and he has been part of my men’s discipleship group on and off. Below, we are praising the Lord at our New Year’s Eve event! Please pray for him!
The Lord is not being slow in doing what he promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being patient with you. He doesn’t want anyone to be lost. He wants everyone to change their ways and stop sinning. ( 2 Pet 3:9)
Celebrating!
Celebrating Navidad (Christmas) at Hortensia & Roberto’s house with our friends from our men’s group. This ultra-hospitable family has received countless incarcerated and deported men for 30 years! They are connected to various US based prison Chaplains and provide a needed support for men who need a helping hand. They feed them, house them and help them get all their Mexican documents so they can work. After a year most are ready to rent their own place! Here we are reading the Christmas story that Claudia made into a game!
Men’s Discipleship group 2025
God’s been doing great work in the lives of my friends, like Vicente (2nd from the left)! He is a single dad with two kids. (My daughter Poiema gets to teach his children in her class!) He had the privilege of teaching the group for the final class! It has been a privilege and joy to see men like Vicente stay faithful and grow all year long!
Here is a picture of the guys at our last Thursday night meeting for 2025!
Amber and Getzy are a young couple new to our community. They were raised in a well-known cult. They came seeking God, disillusioned by the hypocrisy and lack of love as they battle through a serious medical illness (brain tumor!). They have met others in our church from their same background who have guided them and shown them the love and grace of God! Pray for a miraculous healing!
“The House of Mourning”
It feels like I attended too many funerals in 2025! King Solomon wrote ,
“better to go to the house of mourning Than to go to the house of feasting, For that is the end of all men; And the living will take it to heart,” (Ecclesiastes 7:2)
Funerals are a sacred responsibility of clergy! I officiated for at least three funerals. In our area, violent death or drug overdoses take some, while accidents, poor physical health, or lack of medical care take many others. Sadly, we do live in a fallen world! Burial or cremation takes place quickly after a death, so folks don’t have but a few days to plan! I learned that when I am invited, I am expected to preach! I had the privilege of eulogizing two friends I knew personally. It is not uncommon to see family members wailing and screaming before the deceased. That’s pretty jarring if you are not accustomed (I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it!). Whether I know the deceased or not, the message of our great hope in Jesus Christ does not change!
My friend Jesus “Chuy” Galvan had just gotten married in January 2025 and soon after, we were doing his funeral in November! There is something unique about Christian funerals…it’s HOPE!
We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. Since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, in the same way God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14)
Pray for Chuy’ widow Hortensia and son Roberto.
Happy New Year and God bless everyone of you who reads our updates! There’s so much to share, I will send another email next week!
