SGWM Missions Conference — According to the Pattern

The SGWM Missions Conference looks to the book of Acts as a model for missions, investigating how the Holy Spirit worked through the early church to carry the gospel to the nations. Acts presents a faithful, Scripture-shaped pattern that the church is called to follow.

Through main sessions and practical workshops, this conference is designed to:

   •   Equip local churches to function as sending hubs to the nations.
   •   Help believers who are curious about missions grow in understanding and clarity.
   •   Prepare missionaries who sense God’s call to go with cross-cultural training that equips them for a lifetime of fruitful ministry.

Whether you are strengthening a church’s sending vision, exploring God’s heart for the nations, or preparing to step into cross-cultural mission, this conference will serve and equip you—according to the pattern God has established in His Word.

Workshops

Workshop #1
Pastor Gary Barrow – How to Disciple National Workers on the Field
[Pastor/Leader Track]
For years, missionaries have wrestled with how to train and raise up national workers. In some contexts, corruption has created challenges, but we have found that when national workers are faithfully discipled, it becomes one of the most effective ways to reach their own people.
They already understand the culture, language, and customs of their country, making intentional investment in them essential for lasting fruitfulness.
In this workshop, we will explore practical ways to disciple and equip national workers in their own countries, and how to remain faithfully connected to those laboring for the gospel where they have been raised up.

Pastor Trent Douglass – How the Local Church Can Be a Sending Hub to the Nations
[Pastor/Leader Track]
In this workshop, we will explore the local church’s role in raising up and sending missionaries. We will look at practical ways to engage your church in the Great Commission and equip every member to actively participate in God’s global mission.

Pastor Rob Douglass – What to Expect in the First Two Years as a Missionary
[Missionary Track]
In this workshop, we will look at what to expect when moving overseas and beginning life on the mission field. The first two years bring both challenges and surprises, and we will walk through the practical realities of this season to help build long-term health and longevity in ministry.

Gabrielle Romerro – The Place of Single Women Serving on the Mission Field
[Missionary Track]
One of the questions often raised in missions is whether a single woman can serve on the mission field. In this workshop, Gabrielle Romerro will share from her own experience—the blessings, challenges, and realities of serving as a single woman on the field.
Gabby is currently serving in Japan and brings firsthand insight from life and ministry there. At SGWM, we have consistently seen that a large percentage of those willing to go to the mission field are single women.
If you are a single woman considering missions, this workshop will be practical, honest, and deeply encouraging.

Workshop #2
Isaac Douglass & Tim Rich – Starting Missionary Care Teams in Your Church
[Pastor/Leader Track]
In this workshop, we will explore how to practically engage your local church in caring for and connecting with missionaries. Missionary care teams not only strengthen and encourage those on the field, but also connect the church to the work God is doing globally—stirring hearts for the Great Commission.

Stacy Cook – How to Practically and Administratively Send Missionaries
[Pastor/Leader Track]
In this workshop, we will walk through the practical and administrative process of sending missionaries. Topics will include finances, online giving systems, website setup, and the key infrastructure needed to effectively send and support missionaries.

Pastor Tim Pappas – I Sense a Call to Missions… Where Do I Start?
[Missionary Track]
In this workshop, we will walk through the journey from sensing a call to missions to being sent out. We will highlight preparation, training, and the practical pathway SGWM provides to equip and send those called to the field.

Branden Garcia – Living and Serving Among Muslims
[Missionary Track]
In this workshop, we will explore both the blessings and challenges of living in a Muslim country while seeking to reach Muslim people with the gospel. We will also discuss the practical realities of transitioning from life in America to engaging and thriving in a Muslim cultural context.

Pastor Joel Garcia – The Need for Shepherding Missionaries After They’ve Been Sent
[Pastor/Leader Track]
We’ve all heard the phrase, “out of sight, out of mind.” This can happen when missionaries are sent to the field. But even when they are no longer present in the daily life of the church, they remain part of the flock—an extension of the church in another country.
In many ways, they need the church even more on the field than before they left. They still need to be pastored, shepherded, and discipled—just as much, if not more, after they are sent.
In this workshop, we will explore practical ways to remain faithfully connected—encouraging, strengthening, and discipling missionaries as they serve abroad.
