God is Worthy of Praise, Wouldn't You Agree?

C. H. Spurgeon once said, “God has great things in store for His people: they ought to have large expectations.”

How we need to expect great things from our great God!

I believe that when we expect great things from our God, things that are so great, things that are so impossible, I believe it blesses Him. I believe God is wanting to do great things on behalf of those who are willing to ask in faith, believing that He is willing and able.

I started the month of June sharing at Calvary Chapel South Kent in Kent, Washington. I had the great privilege of sharing at their Men’s Breakfast. In my last update I asked you to pray and God answered. So I want to thank you for your prayers. God really blessed.

I shared briefly on The Purpose of the Church, which is to evangelize the world for the glory of God, then to disciple those who have come to Christ.

I also had the opportunity to share with them regarding the ongoing work of ours in the 10/40 window.

The teaching was so well received. I believe God stirred the hearts of the men to glorify Him though reaching out to the lost.

I’ve been working to develop a relationship with this church for a few years now. I love the pastors, the staff, along with those I’ve met in the body. The missions pastor has asked me to return in November after I return from my fall trip to the 10/40 window. He’s asked me to give them another update on the work there and to brief them on the state of the unreached.

Currently I’m writing this newsletter from Mexico at our Calvary School of Missions, which started on June 23.

We have 14 students this year. They’re just a great group of young adults who are sensing a call to long-term missions. We’re only a week and a few days into the school and God is already moving so radically. I’m down here till mid-August. Please keep us in your prayers.

The Calvary School of Missions consists of lots of classroom teachings. The classes cover the purpose of the church, the Biblical model of missions, cultural training, church planting, team building, etc..

There are 2-3 outreaches each week. One outreach that always impacts the students is when we take them to the dump to reach out to those living there. The houses that people live in are made of trash. Many of the people living in the dump are hiding from something or someone, so we are sensitive not to photograph them. But can you imagine, living in a dump? God did not make mankind to live that way. Thankfully, the Lord has sent Pastor Eddie to them. He has a huge heart of love and a great desire to see these people saved. He has a water ministry, you can see the shower and tank behind the group photo, and he fills it every other day. He has a regular Sunday service along with a mid-week Bible study.

We also take the students to do outreaches in parks and street markets. It’s actually a very fruitful time of witnessing to the local people and inviting them to church.

Another type of training we do with the students is a church takeover. A church takeover is where the students fill each position in the church from being greeters, running the children’s ministry, leading the worship, bringing the Word, and cleaning up afterwards.

In our 4th week, we will take the students to Mazatlán. There the students will take part in a VBS at Maranantha Calvary Chapel. From there we will drive 8 hours up the mountains to serve an unreached tribe that we made contact with a few years ago. We’ll be with the tribe for 3 days.

Our final week is spent debriefing each student, hearing from them what they feel God has for them going forward. If they feel called to continue in long-term missions preparation, we will then invite them to our Missions Training School.

I’m sure there are other great programs out there that are raise up long-term missionaries, but I’ve never heard of one that offers all the things that we do. Our constant reminder to the students is that missions is not about seeing people saved, it’s all about Jesus and seeing Him glorified among the nations. Someone once said, “Missions exists because worship doesn’t.” Our focus is to raise up missionaries to go where people have never heard of Jesus or the message of the cross.

PRAYER REQUESTS

I would ask you to please partner with us in prayer for these students.

Pray that they would have ears to hear and open hearts.

Pray that they would be willing to break over the unreached of the world, and that they would be willing to answer the Lord’s call to take the Gospel where it’s needed most.

Please continue to pray for the work in the 10/40 window via Zoom.

Pray for my teaching times. When I return from Mexico I will start teaching The Purpose of the Church in one of the most persecuted states in the 10/40 window.

Pray that the students would be stirred to reach the 1.5 billion people of their nation who have never heard that they can receive forgiveness of their sins, and be reconciled to God through faith in Jesus.

Please pray for our new online part time night school starting in September. We are asking the Lord to bring 25 students.

Pray that the classes would be a blessing and encouragement to those students, and that we would be able to equip them for the work of the ministry

Please pray for my return to the 10/40 window. Lord-willing, I will be returning for two full months in the fall.

Pray for my time together with our leaders as we meet and seek the Lord for vision on how He would have us reach the nation.

Pray that I can be a source of encouragement to our workers.

Pray for our travel in country as I visit and teach in the various villages and churches.

Please continue to pray for our health.

Please pray for Tina and the family while I am away.

Please pray for God’s continued provision for us as we seek to serve Him, by serving His people here in the States and abroad.
