How am I going to get on a plane and move halfway across the world, away from my family, friends, community, and everything I’ve ever known?
How am I going to live in a new country, with a new language, a new culture, and new customs?
How am I going to lead a team, teach the Bible, and be a faithful witness of Jesus Christ…?
Speaking through the prophet Zechariah, The Lord answers all of my questions.
“So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.”
Zechariah 4:6 NKJV
Hello beloved from the Philippines!
By God’s grace and your prayers our team made it! The journey to get to the Philippines was full of awesome encounters. The first was with a Filipino woman named Josephine! Who was so excited to hear that our team was going for 10 months and bringing more of The Word of God to the Philippines. She was a Christian as well and gave us her blessing.
Another amazing moment was with a “ Lola “ named Dinah
(Lola means grandma in Tagalog, the local language). Dinah was an elder Filipino women I sat next to on my first flight. Dinah was so kind, so wise and once she found out that I was going to be living in the Philippines, she gifted to me her knowledge of what I needed to know to live here.
Here are a few things Dinah shared with me:
Culture: Always end your sentences with “Po" when addressing elders. You will be seen as very respectful.
Elders are highly valued and grey hair is a sign of honor. Whereas a lot of cultures see the elderly as weak and feeble; the Philippines see their Elders as wise and valuable because they have been on the earth the longest.
Language: Tagalog is not the national language, Filipino is. Filipino is Tagalog and the other dialects mixed together. Tagalog is the main language spoken in Manila; There are 80-85 languages spoken. Tagalish, is the mix of Tagalog and other languages.
Dinah also taught me a few words in the local language, told me about foods to try, places to go, things to do and things to watch out for; things Like mosquitos, credit card scams and roadside bottled water. So thankful for Lola Dinah and all of her wisdom, I hope to see her again someday.
After 20+ hours of running through airports, baggage checks, and security scans—plus a layover in Taiwan and two very long flights (one 12 hours, the other 4)
— we finally made it to Tagaytay Philippines!

So In awe of God and His plans, because they are always so much better than our own. In the coming weeks and months, the bible college will begin and I will be teaching the first class, teaching through The Gospel of John. Our team will also be starting a Missions night at the church, where we will cover the life of a missionary and then move into a time of worship and prayer. We will also be starting the Calvary School of Missions: ASIA.
The Why?
In closing “Why am I doing this? “
I want to share with you a testimony about a man named “A”
who left Islam for Christianity, Religion for Eternal Life, Muhammad for Jesus.
This man lived in an Island Village we were introduced to in our first week of being in the Philippines. He is friends with the national pastor we are working with and was delighted to share his testimony with us. This man grew up as a Muslim and one day asked Allah to show him who Allah was. Shortly after
God sent a missionary to “A” and the missionary showed “A” the Jesus film. “A” believed that Allah sent the missionary but wasn’t ready to fully surrender to Jesus.
Shortly after “A” and his whole family became deathly ill. “A” said a prayer “ Jesus if you are God, then you can heal my family.” After this prayer “A” and his entire family became healthy and after that “A” believed that Jesus was The Truth! But A’s wife who remained a Muslim wasn’t convinced that Christianity was the Way and even began persecuting her husband…until Jesus appeared to her in a dream and she believed! Now “A” and His whole family are Christians!" “A” is a traveling jeweler who makes jewelry for a living. “A” now travels from village to village using his craft to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
This is why.
We are praying to show the Jesus film in this village, so please partner with us in prayer that God would open the door.
