Behold I Do A New Thing!
In this season, the Lord has given us Isaiah 43:19 which says, “Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." What a beautiful promise that God has given us as we look to a future filled with hope! God is faithful and we are expectant for all He has planned moving forward.
As the summer was drawing to a close, our family boarded a plane headed for Uganda, Africa. Uganda has a special place in our hearts as the area is a 95% Muslim community and was the first place we stepped foot overseas. This is the bush village where we have spent countless summers living, serving and investing in the lives of men, women and children that they might know Jesus and have a future and a hope!
Coming alongside Calvary Chapel Midigo, the heart of the leadership was to gather the staff from the church, school (now has 800 children), hospital and sports ministry and have a meal and time of encouragement together. One unexpected blessing was to see many of the children we had spent time praying for, visiting and teaching now grown and serving the Lord! As they shared their testimonies of going to college, following Jesus, serving on the worship team and working in the hospital, it was clear that “Behold I am doing a new thing!” It was no longer the 8 – 12 year olds we pointed to Jesus and taught the bible, it was now young men and women 18 – 22 years old that desired godly counsel, prayer for occupations and future spouse and exhortation in this difficult season of much change.
Another highlight was to be there for the dedication of the Community Center and the new playground that is open to all of the children. As we stepped foot on the grounds…“Behold I am doing a new thing!” rang loudly in our ears. Seeing the vision of Pastor Vincent become a reality was powerful. Now the area has a safe place that is set apart for Muslims to come anytime and be free to hear, know and experience the love of God. What a joy to hear the giggles and laughter over a playground, well and community center that will be offering literacy classes, counseling, a library and other activities freely to anyone who comes.
Our hearts have always been to invest the Word of God in the national pastors and leaders. CC Midigo has a bible college to train young men and women for the work of the ministry. Bond was able to teach those who have a call to the ministry and to plant a church. Heather was able to spend time with the women’s leadership team as well and teach, pray with and encourage them in their roles at home, work and in the ministry. It is beautiful to see the works that God is preparing in the lives of the students and leadership as some will stay and serve and others will be sent out to establish new works as “Behold I am doing a new thing.”
This fall, the Lord opened the doors for us in miraculous ways and parted the red sea so to speak as Isaiah 43:19 came true in our own lives, “Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." The same God that directed us to Northern CA several years ago has redirected us to San Diego as our new hub / home base for continued ministry. We are thrilled with the new things God has set before us to do! We look forward to sharing more in future updates. Our season of being based in Northern CA has come to a close and we are grateful for the wonderful memories, friends, adventures and ministry that we had the joy to be a part of. We marvel at the ways in which the Lord has worked in our hearts, lead us, guided us and went before us to bring us to this NEW place!
We will be departing for Nepal on November 24th and will spend the holidays investing in the students and national leadership at CBI Nepal and eating curry. We will also be planning Christmas outreaches at over 35 locations throughout Asia with the hope of sharing the Christmas story and watching God do a NEW thing in the lives of those who are still waiting to hear the good news! We request your prayers for our time in Nepal to be fruitful, for the graduates that will be sent out, for our time with those who will come from all over Nepal to be built up in the Word and for vision for all the Lord wants to do moving forward!
As you celebrate Thanksgiving from the other side of the world, we want to tell you how much we thank God for you and are praying for you and your family! We hope and pray you have a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you for your prayers, your love, your faithful support and your unwavering commitment to co-labor together with us!
With Much Love from Nepal,
Bond, Heather and Breanna Gaona
