Salvation, Sweat, Slums, and Salsa
Week 1 of Calvary Chapel School of Missions has been such a success! The Lord has been so faithful to work and move through all of the students and leaders. There is so much to share, it is hard to know where to start.
The classes have been such a blessing and God has truly been speaking through the different speakers. We have had the opportunity to learn from a few missionaries and hear their stories on how God called them to the mission field. The first couple we heard from were Mike and Sarah Vincent from Calvary Chapel Rosarito.
They have an inspiring and hilarious story of how God brought them to Mexico. The Vincents moved to Rosarito, Mexico to plant Calvary Chapel Rosarito in 2002. All these years later, the church has exploded and thrived. Their story is so inspiring, reminding us of the importance of being on the same page when it comes to our calling as married couples to the mission field. On Wednesday, we traveled around the city to see the original church buildings where Calvary Chapel Rosarito met. It was breathtaking to see the difference between the first church building and the last building. God has provided the church with a beautiful building and space to worship and honor Him. These buildings represent what God can do when we remain faithful in what He has called us to do. Please keep Calvary Chapel Rosarito and their leadership board in their prayers as they desire to serve the Lord.
This past week we have also been able to go on a few outreaches. During these outreaches we have been able to work collectively as a team and go out into the city to serve the people and share the love of God. The first outreach we went on was a trip to the local dump in Rosarito. There are almost no words to describe the poverty and pain of the people living in that dump. The team walked around the dump and encouraged people to come join us in a time of fellowship, worship, and testimonies. We had about 7 people come join our group in worship and teaching. It was so sweet to sing the songs in English, while our friends sang in Spanish. Although there was a language barrier, we were able to worship the Lord in unity together.
Friday we participated in a park outreach. It was a blast to be able to minister to the children and adults at the park. We set up booths with face painting, nails, balloon animals and Bible stories. I had the opportunity to participate in the Jonah in the Whale skit. It was also a blast to play a competitive game of soccer with some of the team members and the kids.
Fourth of July was a sweet time as a team to rest, relax and have some fun. We went to a swap meet where we partnered with Calvary Rosarito and had our own booth in the market. Delicious tacos boosted our energy for the activities that followed throughout the day. We played a competitive game of volleyball back at the compound and watched some beautiful fireworks. I am so thankful for the team that the Lord has divinely brought together. It has been a blessing to be a part of a team that desires to grow closer to the Lord and serve Him. We have all bonded so well and would appreciate your prayers for unity as a team as we continue on into week 2 of CSOM. Thank you all again for your prayers and support.
