Greetings from Mexico, I hope that you had a wonderful month saying goodbye to August! (And hopefully saying goodbye to all of this summer heat too!) In August, we were once again blessed to host our annual church planting conference. This is the 12th straight year we have hosted this conference at Calvary Rosarito, and without a doubt this was our best conference ever. In this update I want to tell you all about it.

Many years ago after we had started this church planting journey, God put it on my heart that part of this great missions work would include training other pastors and leaders in church planting. That’s why back in 2013, we began our annual bilingual church planting conference. Although this conference started small, this year we had nearly 600 adults in attendance representing over eighty churches coming in from many states and countries.

The title of this year’s conference was “Sound Doctrine” and that title was taken from the words of Paul the Apostle in Titus 2:1 where he writes; “But as for you, speak the things which are proper for SOUND DOCTRINE!” We had a wonderful group of pastors that taught with passion about planting Spirit-filled churches that teach sound doctrine.

At the conference we were blessed to host 24 different workshops with 8 different tracks designed to meet the unique ministry needs of each person in attendance. Each one of these workshops were a blessing and they were all well attended. In the women’s ministries track, my wife Sarah taught a women’s workshop that was not only well attended, but each lady who came had their heart touched!

The highlight of the conference every year is sending out new church planters together. This year we sent out a record five new church plants together at this conference. My good friend (and 2015 church planter) Hugo Limon planted two new churches out of his church in Ensenada. Those two churches are located in the North and South of the large city of Ensenada. (Hugo’s church, Horizonte, is located in the downtown center of this bustling city!)

Two of the other church plants were first time church plants. I often tell people that the very first church plant is always the hardest for many reasons. But this year, my good friend Pastor Martin Ramirez (who planted his church Calvary La Gloria in Tijuana 5 years ago) sent out his first church plant called, “Calvary Torreon,” which will be located in the state of Coahuila Mexico. My good friend Brian De La Cruz who we sent out to church plant Calvary Connection in Calculalpan just three years ago, also sent out his first church plant called, “Calvary Connection Orizaba,” which will be located in southern state of Veracruz.

The fifth and final church plant was our very own new church plant called, “Calvary Manantial de Vida” (“Living Spring”). This new church plant will be pastored by my good friend Jose Gregorio and will be located in a small beach town just 10 miles south of us called Primo Tapia. Jose Gregorio, his wife and four sons are long time servants in our church. Jose Gregorio recently completed our 2-year church planting class with excellence, and it is now our blessing to send him out to do this great missions work.

The final highlight of the conference was at the end of the final day as I shared my closing thoughts. I asked those in attendance to take a step of faith and STAND UP if they believed that God had called them to church plant during this conference. To my joy and amazement, we had over fifty faith-filled men and women boldly stand up. I was so happy to witness this that my eyes filled with tears. We finished the conference by having the rest of those in attendance lay hands on those that are believing that God is calling them to church plant. Finally, I want to thank you once again for your partnership with our family here in the ripe mission fields of Mexico. We could have never imagined that God would have us serving here in Mexico for nearly 25 years. Yet it fills us with joy and faith knowing that God did not call us to serve alone. So many of you have stood by our side and supported us, prayed for us, and held up our arms spiritually! We feel blessed and honored to serve as your missionaries.
