Greetings from Mexico, September is a special month here in Mexico, because that is when we celebrate Mexico’s Independence day! Celebrated on September 16th, Independence day here honors the country’s liberation from Spanish colonial rule and symbolizes national pride, freedom, and cultural identity.
This celebration commemorates the historic night of September 15, 1810, when priest Miguel Hidalgo rang his church bell and gave the famous "Grito de Dolores" (Cry of Dolores), an impassioned battle cry that ignited the Mexican War of Independence. In our church, we have a wonderful Independence Day celebration every year and this year’s party did not disappoint!

We had over 1000 people come out to this festival and many of these were first time visitors. The afternoon began with a delicious food court; we had games with a mechanical bull, and there was plenty of smiles, fun, and fellowship. But the focus of the evening was the 2-hour Independence Day show complete with song and dance presentations. This included a professional folklorico dancing crew (led by some friends at church) that performed some colorful traditional dances. We also had a Christian mariachi group that took the people’s breath away by putting a Christian spin on the traditional Mexican classics.

But the highlight (as always) was the short message followed by the Gospel presentation where we saw numerous first time professions of faith! These visitors joined us to celebrate the freedom of Mexico, but they ended up receiving freedom in Christ. Praise the Lord! On a personal note, for our family it is always a blessing to celebrate the independence of this country that has loved us, adopted us, and made us their own!

Also in September, we received a record number of first time visitors and first time professions of faith! One of the special blessings of our church is that most of our church growth has come through new visitors hearing the Gospel and being born again. To help us reach the lost, we make a great effort to get visitors from our community to visit our church where we have committed to present them the message of salvation and give them an invitiation to respond and be born again.

In September alone, we had more than 120 local guests visit us for the very first time, and from that group we had over 90 first time professions of faith! We are very aware that God doesn’t care about big numbers, but God does care for the souls of men, and each visitor and profession of faith represents a soul that Jesus loved and died for.

The challenge for our church (and every church) is following up and plugging in the new people that God is bringing to the church. Since we finished the Legacy Building Purchase Project two months ago, our new focus is doing a better job of plugging in the visitors and guests that God is bringing to the church! In order to do that, we have four (what we call) “FRONTLINE MINISTRIES” to help our visitors plug into the church. In the rest of the update I want to tell you about these four ministries and ask you to pray for them.

Our first FRONTLINE MINISTRY (and the one our guests prominently see as they enter our church patio) is our welcome center. This open room is prominently featured directly in front of our church, and this is the first stop that we want our guests to make when they visit. At the welcome center our guests will be greeted with a friendly face, and welcomed to our church. They will also be given a thank you gift for their first time visit and we will kindly ask for their contact information so we can follow up with them later on in the week.

Our second FRONLINE MINISTRY takes place in a room attached to our sanctuary that we call “THE DECISION ROOM!” Two very important things happen in the decision room. First off, when a person makes a first time profession of faith we ask them to make a public profession by walking into our decision room where they are met with a married couple from our staff. These friends will explain what it means to become a Christian and lead them in a simple prayer of faith. Finally, they will be invited to attend our 4-week New Believers class that teaches the basics of the Christian faith in a small group type setting.
Our third FRONTLINE MINISTRY is our monthly baptisms. For the past 12 years, we have baptisms scheduled at every weekend service on the final weekend of each month. We do this to make baptism as easy as possible for those who profess faith. At the end of August, we celebrated 24 baptisms and my favorite part of those baptisms was that 18 of these new friends had been Christians for three months or less.

Our fourth and final FRONTLINE MINISTRY is our monthly welcome desserts! At these monthly desserts we invite anyone with a month or less in our church to an after-service dessert gathering. In this short meeting, our friends see a short video of the history of our church, they sit at a table hosted by one of our church pastors, and they receive a delicious piece of Costco cheese cake to enjoy. Please join us in praying for these FRONTLINE MINISTRIES so we can do a better job reaching and plugging in these precious people that God is bringing to our church.
Finally, I want to thank you once again for your partnership with our family here in the ripe mission fields of Mexico. It is through your financial partnership that God meets our physical needs, and through your prayers that God meets our spiritual needs. We feel blessed and honored to serve as your missionaries.

Con mucho amor de Mexico, (with much love from Mexico)
