Feel the Wave
Imagine you're 13 years old again !
It's a beautiful morning on one of Hawaii's paradise islands, and you're enjoying your favorite sport : surfing.
Without warning, you're attacked by a 13-foot tiger shark , and as a result, you lose your left arm.
That is exactly what happened to Bethany Hamilton. What's even more remarkable is that just 26 days after the attack, she was back surfing , and eventually went on to become a professional surfer.
Her story of crisis, growth, and faith is portrayed in the movie Soul Surfer.
At the end of the movie, while Bethany is competing, she remembers a piece of advice someone more experienced had given her weeks earlier:
"The best surfers know when the right wave is coming. They can feel it even before they can see it."
More and more, I feel like Bethany. Sometimes, when God calls us to His work, it can feel like we're floating in a sea of uncertainty while wrestling with our own difficult experiences.
How are we going to pay for all of this?
What is really going to happen in Spain?
Will we be granted a visa to live there?
Besides floating in that endless ocean of uncertainty, we're standing on a small surfboard .
It's not a ship, not even a boat or a kayak where you can at least paddle in whatever direction you choose . It's just a board!
A surfer depends mainly on two things : the “will” of the waves and their ability to catch them.
It's the same for us as missionaries and church planters. We depend completely on the will of God and on having the faith to step into it!
If God calls you, forget about bringing paddles!
If you bring paddles into the mission field, even a gasoline-powered engine won't be enough. You could bring an entire cruise ship and still be limited by the maintenance and fuel it requires.
But the waves of the Holy Spirit are an endless source of power, purpose, and direction.
During this past season, God kept bringing me back to this verse again and again. …
Trust in the Lord with all your heart ;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do ,
and he will show you which path to take.
Don't be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil .
Then you will have healing for your body
and strength for your bones.
Proverbs 3:5-8 NLT
The first half of 2026 was filled with significant events, and they all had one thing in common: everywhere we went, God seemed to be stirring a special interest in His work in Spain .
It seems like everyone is excited about it , and I can clearly sense that this isn't something I, or anyone else, is creating. God Himself is stirring it.
Studies show that more and more countries in the Global South are sending missionaries , especially to unreached places. These include countries such as Brazil, South Korea, India, and the Philippines .
I had heard about this before, but now, as I see so much interest in Spain everywhere I go, I sense that the time is coming for Mexico to transition from being a country primarily focused on receiving missionaries to becoming a country that sends missionaries and church planters.
The wave isn't visible yet, but we're already beginning to feel it!

In this season, God has confirmed again and again that something is stirring around Spain: the wave isn't visible yet, but we're already beginning to feel it, and Mexico may be entering a new season as a missionary-sending nation.
But that's not all!
Have you ever heard of “big-wave surfers”?
This is a whole different level: waves as tall as buildings .
The sheer amount of water and the speed at which these waves move make them extremely dangerous. That's why no one does this alone.
Every surfer needs a support team .
Physically, it's impossible to paddle into these waves using only your arms . So the surfer teams up with a jet ski that “tows” them in, helping them reach the speed needed to catch the wave.
Others are ready to provide immediate rescue if the surfer falls and needs to escape the next massive wave.
The team also includes a spotter, who is usually positioned onshore or on a cliff with binoculars and a radio, alerting the team about the size and direction of the approaching waves. If the surfer disappears beneath the foam, the spotter helps the jet ski rescuer locate them quickly.
In missions today, every missionary and church planter needs people around them who can help them go farther, stay longer, and bear as much fruit as possible.

Just as big-wave surfers cannot face a wave of that size alone, missionaries need a team to propel them forward, support them, care for them, and help them stay on the mission field so they can go farther and bear greater fruit.
