HIS TRAVELING GRACE
Hello friends and family,
I hope you’re doing well! I wanted to share a little update on what life has looked like since our Missions Training School started back up in September.
It’s been a busy season, but such a good one. I’ve stepped into a couple of new roles that have really stretched me in exciting ways. One is being part of the social media team for our church. I get to help create and direct content for the church social media which has been such a unique way to share encouragement and highlight what God is doing in our community.
I’ve also been entrusted with running the social media for Convinced ministry, where we spend time at Cal State Fullerton sharing the gospel and talking with students. Just the other week, I had the chance to listen to someone who had so many questions about the faith. It reminded me that so many people are searching for truth and hope. It’s incredible that God lets us be part of those conversations.
I’m excited to share about my friend Zuria, who has recently come to faith in Christ. I first met her back in 2020, at that time we both were very much caught up in the world. We lost touch in 2022 due to life circumstances, but recently I reconnected with her. God had already been moving in her heart, calling her to Himself. I was able to share what He has done in my life, how He saved me. When we reconnected, she believed in the universe, numerology, astrology, and even black and white magic, but over time, she has turned away from those things and put her faith fully in Christ. It has been such a joy and a privilege to witness her come out of the world and step into a true relationship with Jesus. My heart rejoices seeing her discover the freedom of Christ for the very first time. It brings back sweet memories of when I discovered His freedom for the very first time. Please keep her in prayer
Between classes, ministry, and work my schedule is definitely packed, but I’m grateful. Every day feels like another opportunity to grow, and to see God’s faithfulness in both small and big ways.
MISSIONS TRAINING SCHOOL
CLASS OF 2025
Last summer, while at the Calvary School of Mission in Mexico, I wanted to stay connected with some of the girls I had built deep Christ centered friendships with. So we decided to become penpals even though they live out of state or abroad. We started writing back and forth to each other. And through that, I discovered a community on TikTok of other Christian girls who also love pen pal-ing. I even met one girl across the country who also attends a Calvary Chapel, and we began building a friendship through our letters. This love for connecting through pen pals led me into junk journaling a creative, scrapbooking like way to express yourself and I created a TikTok page to share my love for arts and crafts, all centered around glorifying God.
I also came across a trend on TikTok inspired by the 2005 movie “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” which is about four best friends who spend the summer apart but stay connected by sharing a single pair of jeans that fits them all, symbolizing their friendship and support despite the distance. Inspired by this idea, I felt led by God to start my own Christ-centered version. Since the online groups focus on worldly interests like astrology or numerology, which don’t align with our faith. So I’ve gathered a group of believers to create the Sisterhood of the Traveling Journal: Christian Edition. Each girl starts with her own journal, decorating it creatively while centering everything on Christ. Every two weeks, journals are mailed to the next person, who adds her own creative touches and testimonies. Over a few months, each journal completes it’s journey and returns to it’s original owner. This project is a beautiful way to connect with sisters in Christ I’ve never met, share our love for crafts and journaling, and build meaningful relationships through our creativity and love for Christ.
I am being safe and cautious: I’ve created a private forum and all participants sign an agreement to keep each other’s information confidential. Above all, this is done to glorify God and operate under His authority. Celebrating His faithfulness and love through our shared art and testimonies.
Thank you for all your love, prayers, and encouragement it makes such a difference knowing I have people like you cheering me on.
For HIS Glory, Katia Alvarez
