We Woke Up To An Underwater City
Dear Friends and Family,
From the bottom of my heart, I hope you all are doing so well! It feels like forever since we’ve talked. So much has happened, and I’m very excited to tell you about it. Thank you for your continued prayers for the team and I. We truly appreciate you specifically for praying for our flights and travel this week. The Lord was with us the whole way. He moved in us, around us, and through us. Here’s a little bit about what has happened…

After arriving in Mazatlán, we immediately stepped out into the humid heat. While it was different and heavy, it gave us a new perspective on change and adapting to where God calls us. Once we arrived at Calvary Maranatha in Mazatlán, we met Pastor Tony and his wonderful team. We took a few hours to rest on the cement floor inside the church and then jumped straight into VBS. The kids and leaders alike were such a joy to work with. In the short time we were there, spending time with the kids, I was able to hear both rich and tragic stories from children half my age. All I could really think was, there’s no corner of the world where struggle doesn’t exist. With that, there’s no corner of the world that doesn’t need Christ.
Our weekend in Mazatlán was hard, yet so fruitful with the Lord. One night, some of the team were woken up by some of the loudest thunder and lightning we’ve ever heard. After waking up the next morning, we stepped outside to find pretty much the entire city underwater. To us, this was strange, but the locals handled it like they always do. We got to see them work together as a community to clear storm drains, help each other on motorcycles, and sweep water out of storefronts. We were blessed to witness such humility and resiliency.

A few days later, we packed backpacks with our essentials, piled into two vans, and headed up the mountain to be with the Cora tribe. The drive there was brutal, but God is good! God is good because even though we were crammed together, it was hot, and the AC that did work was slowly dripping on our heads in the most perfectly inconvenient way, the views of the mountains and hills were such a beautiful testament to God’s creation.
We arrived later than expected, set up our tents, and got as much sleep as we could. The next two days with the tribe were nothing short of inspiring, uncomfortable, and stretching all at the same time. Those two days were primarily spent fellowshipping with the tribe and the national team that came with us. There are many things I could say about the tribe. If I’m honest, I think I’m still processing most of it. So when I see you next, ask me about it, and I think I’ll have more to say. Nevertheless, I can tell you that the kids, their joy and their smiles, had God’s fingerprints all over them.

The Cora are people of very few words– honestly, I really learned from them in that way. While they didn’t speak much most of the time, their ears were never turned away from what we had to say. I find that I need to learn from this and apply it to my own life, both in my walk with the Lord and in my relationships with the people around me.
Yesterday, we arrived just south of Rosarito at a house on the beach, where we’ll be for the next three days before heading back to California. The purpose of this time is for us to take a deep exhale, process the last six weeks, and seek the Lord with everything we have. I ask that you would be praying for me to have tunnel vision for the Lord. Please pray that my ears, like those of the Cora tribe, would be attentive to God’s voice.
I’m praying for you all, and I’m so excited to share more when I’m back.
I love you all!
How You Can Partner With Me:
As I continue to serve, learn, and grow, I am inviting friends and family to partner with me through prayer and financial support. First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has already supported me. I have all of your names written down, and if you haven't heard from me yet, you will very soon. Your generosity and willingness to invest in what the Lord is doing in my life mean more to me than I can adequately express. You are a part of this just as much as I am!
There is still some work to do, however. With the cost of flights, travel, and the many expenses that come with an opportunity like this, I still need to raise a little over $1,300. I truly believe this is doable, and I am humbly asking you to consider partnering with me in this journey. Any amount of financial support would be deeply appreciated, and a giving link can be found below. More than anything, though, the greatest way you can support me is through prayer—that the Lord would continue to prepare my heart, guide me throughout the school, provide for every need, and use this time to grow my faith and love for others. Please continue to pray for the safety and health of our entire team. I know the Lord provides, and I am trusting Him with every step of this journey.
Prayer Requests:
Pray for…
My eyes to be set on Jesus alone
Health and wellness for the team… a few of us have gotten sick in recent days.
A continued passion and desire for God’s Word when returning home
Again, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to hearing from you and how I can be praying for you!
Blessings,
Josiah Grant
