I GOT A CAR!

“Love is patient, love is kind…”
~1 Corinthians 13:4~
Dear Friends, Family, and Loved Ones,
When the apostle Paul was trying to expound the greatness of God’s grace shown to him, he wanted to make sure his readers weren’t misguided into thinking that a favor so great and undeserved would be wasted on a vain life. It was quite the opposite! He says “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” As he also later says in 1 Corinthians, this grace is not alone, it is seen through love. Really, anything not done through love is in vain, but God’s love is also what pushes us to go to great lengths to reach the lost and needy. These truths have been ministering greatly to me, and I hope it encourages you in your daily walk with Jesus. With that being said, God’s grace has been moving greatly at the work in Peru, and I am excited to share some highlights of the past few months with you all!
Loving God and Loving Moyobamba
First of all, I want to share a little about a trip to Moyobamba in February. I went with a team from Calvary Trujillo to support 2 groups that came from the states. It was a greatly successful trip of evangelism, construction projects for the church, and an outreach event in the city park. Trying to travel around a city that only has 3-wheeled motorbikes for taxis with a group of about 50 people was pretty hilarious! But the Lord made it all work.
Calvary Moyobamba recently purchased a piece of property just outside of the city to have an area for fellowship and events. The heart is to build a future Bible school for people from the deeper jungle communities to be discipled. While we were there, we helped carving out a nice area of field grass that will be more enjoyable to hangout on than the wild jungle grass, as well as building the foundation for a shed house that will serve for housing tools and storage.
We had a crazy time on the last day. A little dump truck would come to dump good soil for the grass we were planting. On the last day it went too far into the field and got stuck in the mud (which felt more like quicksand than mud). It was pretty insane because when you walked on the ground in certain areas it would move up and down like a wave because of how watery the ground is. After calling another friend to come get the guy out, he realized his truck was also going to get stuck, so he left. After that, we waited another hour, and the neighbors just happened to order a bunch of concrete bags from a bigger dump truck. We went and helped them unload and in return they came and helped us get the truck unstuck before it was dark. That was a great relief after a long day working in the sun!
Pre-Kinder Adventures!
Calvary Pre-Kinder has been progressing through the year with legendary Bible stories and a recent visit to the botanical garden! The Pre-kinder has been setup in a way so that the children (3-5 years old) will progress through the history of the whole Bible in a year, each week focusing on one point in Bible history. Currently (in May), we are on week 9, the story of Redemption in Ruth. They have already covered from creation to the judges! We are using this not just as a basis to teach the Bible and missions, but as a basis for all other areas- grammar (Spanish and English), sports (and large/fine-motor skills), art, and logic (including basic mathematics). Our goal as a school based on the vision of a Classical Christian education is to create dedicated disciples of Jesus through building the character and academics of each student.
We have 8 pre-kinder kids currently, and each one is a joy! Our recent adventure to the botanical garden was met with some difficulty at first, as almost all the roads leading to it were under construction, but eventually we found a way in. From there began the adventure of discovering different animals and plants with their binoculars and notebooks! We saw iguanas, peacocks (which are called royal turkeys in Spanish, I thought that was funny), alpacas, rabbits, and much more. I think they had the most fun feeding the pigeons and ducks, there were probably about a hundred of them waiting for the kids to throw food.

A CAR!
After patiently waiting for the right time, I finally decided to purchase a vehicle! The ministry is growing in many different ways, and it was clear that we would especially need the extra mobility for all the government and administrative needs of Colegio Calvary. The Lord provided just the right car for Trujillo. The brother of Luis, the director of the school, “just happened” to be selling his 4x4, 8-seat SUV. Thank you all for your support, which is what made this even a possibility for me to better do ministry in Trujillo!

Terreno (property) Update and Other Addresses
God has been greatly blessing the work on the new church property in Trujillo! Actually, the picture below of the foundation of a new wall has already been finished. The next phase of construction should be starting soon, which will be the main sanctuary! Please be praying that it will be able to be finished before the upcoming South America Missions Conference in October, as it will give us ample space to better host the event (that is always overcrowded at our current property).

The deaf ministry has been continuing on with great progress. Something new we have been doing is using a signs-video Bible translation to go through the Bible. April we went through the parable of the Sower. This month of May we will beginning a new adventure of going through the whole book of Mark as a group and discussing it. Please keep praying for this great ministry. Recently one of men has been coming early on Sundays to help setup, which is a very encouraging step of spiritual growth we have not had with the community until now.

It is so difficult to keep up with all the outreaches and events we put on in Calvary Trujillo, but I wanted to mention a few. This April the young adults went to Poroto (about a 2-hour trip from Trujillo) to do a retreat. It was a great weekend filled with a fresher, greener environment and very timely Bible studies in the hills. It was a very refreshing time for everyone. We have been continuing our Colegio Calvary//Children’s Rescue Home prayer group every Thursday morning to pray for God’s work among the children of our church and Trujillo. Finally, the bottom photo is a lookout point in one of the very poor areas of Trujillo. This point overlooks the city of Trujillo, but just behind it is a very needy community we went to minister with a children’s event in a local dirt football field. We had a bunch of kids come out and receive snacks, games, and the gospel!
