God’s Love in a Dump
Hello my brothers and sisters,
This week has been amazing. I have been walking with God since 2002. I have always maintained a good consistent alone time with God, starting my days in prayer alone with Him. This week at the school missions we read two books, “The Baptism of the Holy Spirit” and “Absolute Surrender.” I have been learning the importance of being filled with God’s Spirit. In Acts 10:38 God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit, and with power. He went about doing good and healing those who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. God accepts our surrender when we offer ourselves to Him. He not only claims our surrender, but He is willing to do the work to help us surrender, which I find so encouraging. I am asking Him to cleanse me of my attitudes and personality flaws as He brings me through His refiner’s fire. I’ve come to a place since I’ve been at school here to absolutely depend on my God daily. He is the vine and does the work of nourishing the branch so it can bear fruit. It’s very important to keep close to the Lord through His word, and this gives us communion and a close relationship with Him. I am so grateful for the precious word of God.
We visited a church that is now run by a pastor who had spent years in prison for violent crimes, and drug charges before coming to Christ, but the Lord chased hard after him until he surrendered his life to Jesus. The church was very simple, with wooden benches and a wooden cross in front. Though there was not much in the way of material things, the Spirit of the Lord was there. This Pastor is reaching the hard-core drug addicts and prostitutes in the area to know and understand God’s love and we all felt God’s spirit there in this little place. One of the many outreaches coming from this fellowship was a ministry to those living in a large dump. These people living among the discarded trash of others, worked hard to salvage anything of value that they could reuse or sell. Our team set up a tent and shared God’s word with the people who gathered. One elderly couple especially touched my heart, Marta and Jose. They were so tender with each other, and I could tell she was in back pain as I helped her to her tent. I found out she was a believer and asked if I could pray for her back pain. When they left the service, she thanked me and said her back felt much stronger as I accompanied her back to her home made from all the scraps in from the dump. The stories I have shared touched my heart, and I wanted you to see what the suffering of the poor are really like. I thank you for your partnership with me and I will continue to share with you so that you can also experience what the Lord is doing here in Mexico. Thank you for your continued prayers, to God be the glory!
With much love in Jesus name.
Pina.
