The Purpose of The Church

Our bible studies during the first week at the School of Missions were about the purpose of the church. In the words of our teaching Pastor, Trent, “The purpose of the church’s existence on the earth is for the evangelization and discipleship of all people.” This was God’s plan from the beginning. We studied The promise of Abraham (Gen 12:3) and how that promise was revealed through Jesus Christ (Gal 3:8, Eph 3). Through the book of Acts, we have seen how the great commission was carried out through the planting of churches. Church planting is central to God’s divine model for the advancement of the gospel to all people.

“The gospel does not prompt you to mere reflection; the gospel requires a response.”

David Platt, Radical, pg. 20

We have been able to observe this church planting model in action at different stages while in Mexico. At a bonfire last Monday, the head pastor of Calvary Chapel Rosarito and his wife came and shared their testimony about being sent out from Calvary Chapel Saving Grace (the church that CSOM is under in Yorba Linda, CA) 18 years ago. CCR started in a small house and has grown to a church of about 1200 people. Pastor Trent took us through a tour of the three different buildings they had before we went to service in their current church home.

Outreaches

We got to do some street witnessing with a few guys from Calvary Rosarito, including a man named George. He said it was his first time doing evangelism, but that he could translate for me as I preached the gospel. As we were sharing it became clear that the Lord has gifted this brother with evangelism! He poured out the love of Christ and was so friendly to those we were sharing with. At one point he was translating while I shared with someone and I said, “Okay now tell him this (about the gospel)” and George said, “Oh I already told him that.” He was finishing my sentences and sharing like a true evangelist! Please pray for George, he is considering to join the church planting internship they have at Calvary Chapel Rosarito.

The multiplication of churches and disciples has been in action through Calvary Chapel Vista Del Villa. They are the first successful church plant out of Calvary Chapel Rosarito. We did an outreach with them at a park and also helped lead a young adults service back at the church.

Thank you for reading this update and supporting me in prayer and financially. Without you I wouldn’t be able to be here studying God’s heart for the nations and seeing Him affect lives for eternity with the gospel. If you would like to become a financial partner in what God is doing here in Mexico click the “become a financial partner!” Button below. I pray the Lord continues to grow you in His knowledge and love as He does the same with me here. ¡Dios te bendiga! (God bless you!)
