What’s going on in Moyo?
Hello everyone! Here is what has been going on in Moyobamba.
One day I was sitting at my desk, drinking some Moyobamba coffee, and I decided to start my time with the Lord in the book of Proverbs. A verse really stood out to me and stirred my heart.
Prepare your outside work,Make it fit for yourself in the field; And afterward build your house.
Proverbs 24:27
“Prepare” and “making it fit for yourself in the field” were stuck in my mind. Then I started to reflect and connect the dots.
1. There is no Bible school in the whole Moyobamba district.
2. There are people at Calvary Moyobamba that want to study more and more of God’s Word.
3. There are people in the indigenous communities around us who have been waiting to be taught the Bible for many years.
4. I should look into land to possibly buy/prepare/make it fit, then build.
With all of this being said, I believe the Lord is leading to start a small school where people can learn more about the Bible. When? I don’t know. But Calvary Moyobamba just purchased some land, the first big step!
Please join me in prayer for God’s guidance, timing, and wisdom.
Inside the church we have a mini library. It contains books on missionary biographies, Christian service, biblical marriage, apologetics, and much more! What excites me is that this year there have been 16 different people from the church that have read at least one book. May this hunger for more godly knowledge continue among us! If you have any suggestions on books we can add (please check first if it’s in Spanish), please let me know.
Here is a peek at one of our Sunday services. Yes, we really do have green walls.
The church has been growing with new people coming the last few months.
We have finished studying all of Luke, 1 John, Galatians, Genesis, and Exodus. One of our goals as a church is to go through all 66 books of the Bible.
We recently finished Galatians. It has been impactful to see how with Jesus, we are redeemed, sons of God, and heirs of many blessings. The biggest takeaway I believe many had is how we are saved by God’s grace, not the law of Moses. This is such an essential doctrine, because about 80% of the people in Moyobamba who identify as Christians believe we are saved by completing the law.
Here is a picture of our Saturday discipleship group. We studied topics through the life of David, like waiting on God’s timing, how difficulties are part of the Christian life, and making good use of our time.
With four people from the church evangelizing at the main square on a Saturday night.
Teaching a class called Inductive Bible Study. It’s about how to understand and teach the Bible better. A team and I were in a jungle community 14 hours from Moyobamba with an ethnic group called the Aents.
Thank you everyone who took the time to read the latest updates with us. Your prayers are truly a big part of what God is doing here.
Praise reports
1. We have completed 2 years as a church.
2. Calvary Moyobamba has a beautiful chunk of land about 15 minutes from the city.
3. Many people at church are experiencing God’s grace and transformed lives.
4. My Dad, step-mom, and her mom came to visit me. I love them so much.
5. My Mom, step-dad, and his parents will come out in February to visit. I love them so much.
Prayer requests:
1. That God can bring in more men at church. It is mostly women at the services and weekly activities.
2. God’s guidance, wisdom, and provision regarding the land we just bought.
