Hello there, friends and family!

It feels as though I’ve been in Mexico for a long time now but we just ended our second full week here in Mexico! There’s so much that’s happened since I last sent my newsletter out, so let’s hop straight into it!

The past week, we had an outreach on Tuesday! We went to a local park and then went out into the neighborhood, inviting local families to a day filled with fellowship, kids activities, worship, testimonies, and dinner together. At the outreach, I had the opportunity to share my testimony with some of the locals and our team. Leading up to sharing my testimony I was incredibly nervous about speaking for a multitude of reasons. One of my leaders a day prior had told me to not read my testimony from off of my phone, but to be led by the Spirit, so I was double nervous. As I cried out to the Lord in my thoughts for help, one by one, my peers randomly throughout the day began to pray for me. As far as I know, nothing amazingly miraculous happened while sharing my testimony; it was only ten minutes, 5 minutes used for translating it into Spanish. After I shared my testimony I went to my new friends, bursting into tears. At that time, I wasn’t sure what all the tears were for, but looking back I can see why. I was simply filled with joy and awe so much so that the apathetic parts of my heart were unable to contain my emotion. Even though I’m completely unworthy and undeserving, I got to partner with my Father. I was in awe because all my loving Father required of me was to show up and surrender. I didn’t even believe I was capable, yet I showed up and His Spirit moved through me and therefore He deserves all the glory!

The outreach

After an amazing outreach on Tuesday, we spent a lot of the week reading a book called “Radical'“ by David Platt. In this book, David shows us that following Jesus based on scripture is truly radical in contrast to the cultural Christianity that we see today. How there is no plan B and that the Lord has chosen the Church as the conduit of God’s grace to a needy world. To give you a good perspective, 44% of the world is unreached, meaning they have never heard the gospel. It is easy to see this number and not be affected because of the excuse that “God is sovereign.” I also believed this, yet scripture tells us something different. According to Romans 2:17, David Platt explains, “All people, regardless of religious, cultural or ethnic background, stand guilty before God” (Platt,146). The Apostle Paul understood this when he wrote this,

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?”

We know that no one is innocent; everyone stands as an enemy of God before they accept Christ. We use the excuse, “God is sovereign,” because we don’t want to believe that people are dying and going to hell without even hearing the good news. Yet scripture tells us that God chose to reveal the mystery of the Gospel to the church so that they could be the conduit of His grace and mercy for the world. If people who haven’t heard the gospel would go to heaven just because they didn’t know, we shouldn’t even bother telling them so that they’d go to heaven! People are dying without Christ, not because of God; it’s actually the fault of the church. God is sovereign, yes, but in His sovereignty He’s made it up to us to share the greatest gift we’ve been given, the Gospel.

This past week, through the reading of Radical, worship, and prayer, the Lord has been answering my prayer of giving me His heart for the lost. The lost must be reached, and plan A, the Lord’s chosen in His sovereignty, is us. I encourage you to ask the Lord in prayer how He wants you to fulfill the Great Commission in your own life. You have a part to play in the entire commission of not just sharing the gospel with your community, or even in America, but also to the ends of the earth…
