Pandemic Update 7/15/2020

Hello everyone, we are in Peru and are healthy by the grace of God.

Huacho and Peru as a whole is going through a very difficult situation with Covid-19. We’ve been under mandatory lockdown for almost 4 months. It’s been a few days since the Peruvian Government lifted the day time quarantine! The night time lockdown is still mandatory from 9:00pm – 6:00am.   We have had a spike in Covid-19 cases since more people are moving about the city.  There is a real concern for this virus since medical and health services are not the same. The hospitals are full, and so is the morgue. Personally we don’t want to go near either one. Oxigen is a real problem because it comes from Lima 3 1/2 hours away, and the demand is higher than the supply.

Businesses are basically closed still, and most members of Iglesia Calvary Huacho are independent, which means that they haven’t had any income for almost 4 months.  Many families are trying to make the best out of our situation by preparing baked goods, pizzas and offering them for delivery, but the situation is critical and very sad.

We’ve been preparing boxes with food and essentials and delivering to the members of the church and to families in the “pampon”, (Venezuelan refugee community) that were coming to church as well. We have also provided rent money for two families who were behind and faced eviction notices.
