What a wild ride this week has been. I will be totally honest with you, I was just trying to get through it. When things get uncomfortable…my first thought isn’t to sit and deeply reflect. My first thought is to get up and do what needs to be done, and then hide away from the heat, bugs, or people so that I can rest as much as possible. The LORD taught me to be a servant.
This week we helped out a few local churches in Mazatlan and then took a bus ride up to an unreached tribe in the San Gregorio Mountains where we stayed for 3 days inviting them to hear the Word.
I still have about $600 left to raise for my school cost! With one week left, I am praying the LORD provides the support. You all have blessed me so much and I am so thankful for the love and encouragement I have received. If you feel led to give, you can click the link right here…
Life isn’t easy for the people that live in the places we go to temporarily. They live there…while we visit there.
This week we experienced what a monsoon flood looks like in Mazatlan. After hours of thunder shaking the building we were sleeping in, I heard some people getting up at 3am. I started to wake up, and half-asleep, I walked to the bathroom and then went straight back to bed. I had no idea what was going on, all I knew was that it was an absurd hour for everyone to be awake and walking around…whatever.
In the morning when everyone woke up, I realized the A.C. was off and we received a text saying: “I know it has been a crazy night for all of us…” and I was thinking… “Really? What happened?” I started asking around and found out that the waters had flooded up so high that they were seeping into the building near the edges where people had been asleep. Cockroaches were crawling around. The power went out.
I saw video of what the storm had looked like outside… guys it was crazy. We joked about how if we hadn’t woken up, our beds would have been floating down the street like a REAL lazy river.
But this is the reality. Homes were flooded. Trash poured down the street. People were without power in the CRAZY heat and humidity. We spent the rest of the day cleaning the church to prepare for the Wednesday night service.
This is their life. They don’t get to escape it. And it happens frequently. It stormed every night we stayed there. NOW, it did not flood every night, but pretty close to it!
I won’t lie, the letter is shorter this week. And that is mostly because I am exhausted. After all of that on Wednesday, we drove up about nine hours on Thursday, ACTUALLY slept on a singular blanket for three nights, and then drove down on Sunday.
At the tribe, we got to go out into the community and invite them to our events. We hosted a children’s ministry where I got to teach them Roman’s Road again, we cut people’s hair, and we had a medical brigade so that they could get medications they don’t have access to. On Sunday, we hosted church and four women were saved.
Here is what I want to highlight:
“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”
Romans 12:15
Be with the people. Work alongside them. Sleep alongside them.
The week is over and I am still alive. It truly isn’t fair that they have to live this way their entire life. I can bring them the gospel, hope eternal. I ask you to continue in prayer for my team and I as we come to a close and spend this week reflecting.
Prayer Request: Clarity in the LORD’s next steps for me. We will be spending this week reflecting on the experiences we have had, and it is time to start thinking about what to do next.
Prayer Request/Praise Report: As I have applied to jobs, I have received MANY interviews! Continued prayer that those would go well, as well as clarity in where the LORD would have me for my next steps.
Prayer Request: As I am preparing for the next season of my life, I have some financial things weighing me down…effects from the last season of my life. This has been pretty heavy on me, and I have a goal to work hard and get these things paid off. But I also want to be obedient to the LORD in what He would have me do. I know He will provide…He already has in all the interviews I have scheduled. Just prayer for financial provision and peace.
