The above picture is a picture of Willian Carey, who is widely regarded as “The Father of Modern Missions.”
After hearing the clear call of God to go to India as a missionary and to serve the people on India, he turned to his mission board in order to confirm that call on his life.
One of the board members, Andrew Fuller, said to William Carey, “We saw there was a gold mine in India…” He was speaking metaphorically of the harvest field, which no one had entered, up to that point, to reap a harvest.
Andrew Fuller said, “We saw there was a gold mine in India, but it was as deep as the center of the Earth. Who will venture to explore it?”
William Carey promptly responded, “I will venture to go down, but remember that you (speaking to the members of the mission board) must hold the ropes.”
Andrew Fuller’s response to William Carey was, “We solemnly promise to do so, and while we live, we shall not desert you.”
The ropes that William Carey spoke of was the prayer support of those that remained behind. The safety ropes for those that venture out, are the faithful and continued prayers of the saints back home.
So many have ventured out to fulfill The Great Commission. I honestly think the difference between success and failure in those ventures have all hinged on the commitment of those back home to pray.
I’m getting ready to take off again. In my heart I sense that this is going to probably be the most crucial trips I’ve taken. I feel that there are critical aspects of this trip that will be pivotal to the ministry going forward.
Because of this I want to ask you to please commit to holding the ropes.
In a very real sense, I believe, the success of the work that God has called me to, hinges on the faithful and constant prayers of the saints. As I go forward, I feel that I am not only representing the Kingdom of our Lord, but I’m going forward as your representative also; and to the extent that the road ahead is paved with the prayers of the saints, your prayers, is the same extent of the victory we will see.
When Jesus saw the multitudes, we’re told that He was moved with compassion for them, “…because they were weary and scattered, like sheep with no Shepherd." I can't think of a more fitting description of the people in the country I'm going to.
Then Jesus continued to say, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
I’m asking you directly, will you join with me in the work through committing to pray over the next 7 weeks?
Please pray for divine appointment, anointed teaching and discipleship times.
As persecution in the region heats up, please pray for protection for the guys I’ll be meeting with, as well as myself.
Pray that hearts will be moved, that God would bring encouragement to persevere where needed, that God would bring strength where needed, healing where needed, exhortation where needed, and that love, humility and unity would increase more and more.
Finally, if you're not part of my field updates, please email me and I'll send you a link to download Signal and join. Signal is a much more secure platform, which allows me to share in greater detail the events of this trip. It also allows me to share pictures, places and things I can't share in these regular updates.
It's all in an effort to protect our workers in these hostile countries, as well as protecting the ministry. So please, drop me an email and let me know if you want to join "Gary's Field Updates" and we'll get you connected.
Thank you again, for you friendship, prayers, love and support. Together we are making a difference in the World for Jesus Christ our King.
God bless,
Gary and Tina
