Called to the Island of the gods?

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭46‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Hello beloved, I pray this update finds you in the peace and presence of God.

Thank you for being here.

My time serving in Mexico at the Calvary School of Missions has officially finished. We completed our time with sharing Christ to an indigenous tribe in the Sinaloa region of the Nayarit mountains. This was my third summer ministering to the Cora tribe. It was such a blessing, being recognized by members of the tribe, and also meeting the ones who received Christ on previous trips. It was also awesome seeing the students being able to experience a once unreached people becoming reached. The students have all graduated, with some making a decision to move forward in the call to missions. Please be praying for all the students, that they would all follow God’s perfect and unique will for each one of their lives.

VISION TOUR: INDONESIA

In my last newsletter I shared that I was going to Indonesia for a vision tour.

A vision tour is an opportunity to go, pray, and see a country you feel called to as a missionary.

So why Indonesia?

Well, since I began doing missions in 2024, I have been praying to God about where He wants me to serve long-term. When the Lord called me into missions, I was burdened for a country in South Asia (due to security reasons, I can’t share the name here.)

And to be honest, I was ready to go. I went to the country on a vision tour. I saw the unreached of the country with my own eyes, I met brothers and sisters in the faith, experienced their ministries, and it was enough for me.
But last summer, the Lord redirected my attention and heart; and I began to be drawn towards a different place.

A place in Indonesia called - The Island of the gods

(I am still learning about what ministry in this country looks like, which is why I am being vague with the exact name of the location.)

I believe the Lord allowed me to go to South Asia so that I could see what life was like among the unreached—to see the reality of people who are living day to day without ever having the opportunity to hear about the gospel of Jesus. It made the calling and reality much more real for me.

But, one of the reasons I believe the Lord redirected me, is that it is very hard to do long-term missions in South Asia.

For example, I can only be in this country of South Asia for six months and then would need to depart for another six months. This would make it extremely difficult to become rooted, learn the language, and the culture; which are vital to long-term missions.

God uses short-term missions

— but we believe that the most effective and biblical way to do missions is long-term church planting.

That’s really our heart at SGWM, and that’s really hard to do as a temporary short-termer in South Asia.

Contrasted with Indonesia, if God is calling me there, I can live long-term, learn the language, culture, and make a real impact for Christ.

This island in Indonesia is a very well-known travel destination, and a lot of people are going there to find “peace.”

This is something the Lord started speaking to me about last summer:

People are going there looking for peace, and they are not finding it.

You’re not going to find peace in yoga.

You’re not going to find peace in meditation or within yourself.

You’re not going to find peace in crystals, vacation spots, or creation.

You’re only going to find peace in Jesus, who is the God of Peace.

And if you guys are familiar with my testimony, the Lord called me out of the world, where I lived a lifestyle of New Age practices and seeking God in all the wrong places. I was so desperate for peace, and it wasn’t until I gave my life to Jesus that I found the peace I had been looking for.

So not only is the Lord ministering to me about the reality of people going there looking for peace, but also about the Indonesians living in this place.

The major religion in this place is Hinduism. An entire religious system that is built around appeasing thousands of “gods” by presenting endless sacrifices of food, flowers, cigarettes, incense and sometimes money. And these sacrifices aren’t given out of worship and adoration.

These sacrifices are given out of fear.

So these people are born, live and die an entire life in a state of unrest and fear - hoping they have earned enough karma for their next reincarnation and they have given enough sacrifices to not be judged or attacked by spirits…

And we know from Hebrews 2:14-15 that Jesus the One True God, has come to deliver us from fear.

“Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.” - Hebrews 2:14-15 NLT

And give us Eternal Peace with God. What a grace and gift it is to carry this knowledge and be able to share it with the world.

I’m very excited to go and see if this is God’s will. It won’t be easy and we are up against great spiritual darkness. It is an unreached land deeply rooted in Hinduism, there are idols and temples everywhere. So please be praying for our trip, a team of us will be going. Including my former Philippines team members (Alani and Macey).
