Weighing the Cost

Making Balloons with the Kids in Calvary Chapel Otay Mesa

This past week we learned what it means to be a missionary amongst the unreached. It is not a glorious adventure I had pictured in my mind some years back, rather its a tough and enduring way of life. It means surrender, sacrifice, and an entire life of uncertainty. Death, heartache and Reward. This life really puts into perspective what life means. How often do we really believe in eternity? I rarely do, but this week I have been weighing the cost… and for me…there is no turning back, there is only moving forward.

“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” Matthew 10:39

Sunday School teaching

We worked with Calvary Chapel Otay Mesa and and I met a teenage girl during outreach in Calvary Chapel Otay Mesa, this girls name was Rosa and she was about 16 or so. I spoke with her about missions and my conversation with her made me look back into my own past. I used to wonder about the nations, thinking about missionary work, not really understanding what it was. Now I get to experience the joy of sharing the Gospel and to experience it with other people. I hope for Rosa that she looks back to that moment and thinks about what it means to follow Christ.

I did my first Sunday school teaching, which was amazing! I loved working with the kids and sharing with them the love of Christ. My teammates and I worked together to provide for the kids a message, crafts, and games while church was in service. By the end we had the kids memorizing scripture. It was such a joy to be working with the little ones.

Sunday School at Calvary Chapel Otay Mesa

I had a week filled with raw truths about being in the field, especially long-term cross cultural ministry. It brought back memories of being in Malawi and looking back at all the times God provided and cared for us. I think about my growth, and about being home during Covid, and all the people that have poured into my life these last few years. These were the moments that God used to transform my life into the likeness of Him. Moments of obedience, servanthood and of love. The cost is big, fully surrendering yourself, but I am willing every week to take up my cross. I’m grateful that it is a cross I do not have to bear on my own. Its a great honor to share the Gospel and follow Christ.

If you would like to be a part of the work the Lord is doing please prayerfully consider partnering with me financially. I would love to continue sharing with you all that God is doing. I also want to be praying and hearing from you as well, so please let me know how I can be involved in your life.
