This year has continued to provide more opportunities to serve and prepare for the calling God has given me. My time is mostly split between work and serving at various church events. I am so grateful to have the chance to serve but I am even more thankful that the Lord recently reminded me of what a joy and honor it is to serve Him.
Christ’s Example of Serving
In my devotions I have been going through the gospel account of John and it has been so rich. Constantly, God has been ministering and teaching me through my time in His word. In John chapter 13 God reminded me what it means to truly be a servant and what a privilege it is to serve Him. It is in chapter 13 that we see these verses;
“…when Jesus knew that His hour had come that he should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.” (John 13:1)
“Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was goin to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garment, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.” (John 13:3-4)
This truly amazes me that the King of Kings the one who created the Heavens and the Earth, the one who sustains all things came to this earth and washed the feet of sinful men. Including Judas who would betray Him, but in truth all of us were enemies of God. All of us had sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and yet, Christ died for us. As we are told in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” In doing so Christ washed not only the feet of men, but to all who call upon His name and confess Him as Lord He offers freely by His grace to wash away our sins and clothe us in His righteousness. How marvelous is the love of Jesus Christ our King!
In John 15:13 Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” Yet Jesus laid down His life for those who put Him on the cross and reconciled us to God so that we may be called not only friends of God, but sons of God. As John again says in 1 John 3:1, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God…” (1 John 3:1)
Yet it is verses 14-16 that really stood out to me and that God spoke to me through,
“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who sent greater than he who sent him.”
God Almighty the King of Glory the one who gave us life and sustains all life came and washed the feet of sinners, died for our sins and rose from the grave conquering death so we may know Him forever. Then He told us, “I have given you an example” and, “love one another as I have loved you…” How can we not give our lives for Him. How can we not but respond with a life of serving Him and worshipping Him with all of our lives. He who is greater than we can even fathom served us so how much more should our lives be lived in humility and be lived to serve our King. Yet my favorite part of this chapter is in verse 3 where it says that Jesus knowing that He had come from God and was going to God then began to serve the disciples. I am encouraged that we have this same hope and promise. That we know there will be day when we will go to be with our King and our God. To those who have put their faith in Christ they know where they are going. We know that we will go to be with Jesus who loved us and gave His life for us and my prayer is that when we consider all Jesus has done, who He is and where we are going we will serve Him with all of our lives.
Opportunities to Serve
It has been these truths of God’s Word that have reminded me of what a privilege and joy it is to serve our King. I am so blessed to be involved in several ministries of the church including Kids ministry, Youth ministry, Young adults, and Usher’s Ministry. Then I also attend a few discipleship/Bible study groups and God has recently put it on my heart to help facilitate a study going through the book of Hebrews. Plus the Lord has also opened opportunities to share on missions. I was even invited to come share on missions and teach the Sunday message at Calvary Chapel Truckee. There is a video link below for anyone who would like to hear what I taught on. Then in March there will be a Dessert Gathering on the 7th where I will be sharing the calling God has given me to go to the Middle East. For anyone in the Northern California area that would like to come I would love to see you there. This next week there will also be a winter retreat for the youth group. I have been asked to teach one of the sessions looking at the book of Romans, please be praying for each of the sessions and the worship that God will be exalted and that we will all draw nearer to God in this time. So please also keep us in prayer as we travel up to Tahoe and that the Lord works mightily in the hearts of the youth.
Here is the recording of my teaching in Truckee
Thank you all for your continuing prayer, support and encouragement. The Lord is so gracious and I am so grateful that He continues to provide opportunities for me to serve, to teach and prepare for the Mission field. I am continuing to pray for God to provide the remaining financial support necessary for me to go to the Middle East. My heart longs to may Christ known among the lost in the Middle East, and to see them set free from the false religion of Islam and come to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. My heart is for them to know the love of Christ and understand His Word. Please continue to pray for God to raise up a team, for the doors to be open for me to move to the Middle East. Please also be praying for me as I seek to learn the language, culture and understand the religion of Islam and how to convince peope of the truth of Christanty and the falsehood of Islam. My prayer is that we can go to the Middle East and establish a Bible College where we will equip, train and disciple nationals and refugees with the Word of God so that they can be sent out as Pastors and Church Planters through the Middle East. We pray that the Gospel would spread throughout the Middle East and to all the world that Christ may be magnified and people would come to know Jesus and be saved. If you would like to partner with me in the work of the Gospel financially either on an ongoing basis or through a one-time donation, you can do so by clicking the “Become A Financial Partner” button below, OR you can mail a check written out to Saving Grace World Missions with “Jorden Skiles support” in the memo section to Saving Grace World Missions, 17451 Bastanchury Rd., Suite 203, Yorba Linda, CA 92886-1873.
