Vida Nueva

“But what if we don’t need to sit back and wait for a call to foreign missions? What if the very reason we have breath is because we have been saved for a global mission? And what if anything less than passionate involvement in global mission is actually selling God short by frustrating the very purpose for which He created us?”

  • Radical by David Platt

This quote above was one that stuck out greatly for me in this past week’s reading assignment. Now what this isn’t saying is everyone needs to move to the mission field, that would be, as we say here….”no bueno”. But, it is saying we all have a part to play. This is what I have been praying about. “God, do you want to send me? Do you want me to stay? I am completely open, Lord use me as you see fit”. I am excited for how the Lord will continue to speak to me during these next 5 weeks about that and much more. Let’s look at how He has been moving this past week. I hope you are encouraged as you see how simple obedience affects those around us.

About 15 million people live in dumps worldwide, where their “homes” are made up of trash. Praise God John 3:16 says for “God so loved the world..” and not just a select few. He sent His Son for the world. This means every corner, every inch, every person. That’s what stuck out to me as we entered and left the dump where we brought the Gospel to people who if looking at circumstances look hopeless. But there is hope. A Living Hope. We came, spread the word we were there, and set up a tent. About 10 people came out and heard the Gospel, being fed spiritually with the Bread of Life. They were also fed physically with sandwiches we handed out. Three people gave their life to the Lord that day! How good is God?!?!

We also had the opportunity to do an outreach with a local church down here and put on a movie night for them. First a group of us were with the kids where we did facepaint, balloon animals, coloring, playing soccer, as well as a little skit that tied into the Bible story we were teaching and we presented the gospel to the kids who were very engaged! Overall it was a great time where I was pushing myself greatly in speaking  and made good friends with some of the little girls there. At the end of the night I was just amazed at how all the students came together regardless of being exhausted and cleaned up with a good attitude. I felt refreshed randomly at the end and full of joy! (Which for me is rare as I am not a night owl). God always gives us all we need.

Another awesome outreach we did was the park outreach on Friday! We went around and invited them to the park for prayer, kids games, and shared a skit and Bible story. Leading up to that outreach I was scheduled to do worship in Spanish which I started to feel quite nervous about on my way to the outreach and ended up having a panic attack in the car as we pulled up. Luckily I had a few girls with me in the car that began to pray with me and help me relax. I knew at that moment this step was going to take a ton more dependency than I thought, which brought me to a beautiful place of pure reliance on the Holy Spirit. When we came back from inviting people I saw a lady sitting nearby. I went up to her with another student and asked if I could pray for her and she said yes. I prayed in English but I could tell she was touched by it even though it wasn’t in her language. I then invited her over to our area where I was able to sit with her and have some friends who are fluent to speak to her and help me speak to her.

I pulled out my bilingual bible and shared John 3:16 with her and showed her other scriptures and read to her in Spanish. I then felt led to pray in Spanish which I am by no means comfortable with, but the Lord was putting words to memory I didn’t know I knew. The words “vida nueva” (new life) kept coming to my mind so I repeated often. I then was able to keep in contact with her in hopes to get her connected with Calvary Rosarito. She actually came this Sunday halfway through the second service and I was able to sit with her and at the end Pastor Mike gave an altar call where she actually gave her life to the Lord!! So praise God!! At that moment I was just in tears with the thoughts of “this is why we do this”. To give the opportunity for people to have vida nueva.

God has done so much this past week I am just in awe! I thank you all for your prayers and support. Just as you guys have taken time to read my newsletter, I ask you guys to take a moment to come alongside me in prayer for these things:

  • Daily dependency on the Lord.
  • For the lady from the park, Yessenia to get plugged in well at Calvary Rosarito.
  • For the hearts of those we will meet this next week on future outreaches.
  • For the salvation of my family. That by me doing this program, it would be a testimony to them.

If you feel led to partner with me financially in this, my current need is for the remainder of my tuition: $2,234. If you feel led to partner with me, you can use the “Become a Financial Partner” button below. Thank you so much for all your support and love! I am excited to keep you all updated weekly as I am here in Rosarito! Check out my “photos” or “poems” tab on my blog as that will be updated often. Please feel free to reach out to me with prayer requests as well!
