I Saw The First Church!

Group Photo from the Missions conference.

“When I first came to Peru, I did not know the word of God.” My new friend and brother, Angel, told me as we nailed another wood post, sustaining the outside roof, which we were building for the upcoming missions conference. Angel, like many others at the Bible Institute is from the country of Venezuela. He moved to Peru a handful of years ago with his wife, Yeni. When they first came to Peru they were not married and were living together in their bosses house. Angel heard the word of God through Calvary Trujillo and started following Jesus. Him and Yeni got married in the church and began serving, and as time went on Angel felt a call on his life to be a pastor and leader in the church.

At that time, the bible institute had not yet started, Angel shared this desire to his pastor, Cory, and his response was, “Awesome, lets send you somewhere to be trained!” To which Angel responded, “No, pastor…I want you to train me.” That push lead Pastor Cory to start what is today the Calvary Bible Institute in Peru.

Angel and Yeni were the first students to graduate from the institute, the first ones to be married in that church, and now the first to be sent out to plant a new church from Calvary Trujillo! I was able to witness God plant Calvary Buenos Aires (in Peru, not the one in Argentina).  We sent Angel, Yeni, and a whole team out during the first South American Calvary International missions conference. This is the plan God gives us in His word: to take broken sinners that have found hope in Jesus, train them, and send them out to be lights in the dark world that they were once a part of. Calvary Buenos Aires is the first of many churches we believe God will start through the work in Trujillo.

The conference was an amazing time to stir one another up to be part of making disciples and planting churches in all of South America and to the ends of the earth. There were people from 12+ different countries there, so it was a very vibrant and beautiful time to praise God together with people from multiple nations-as we will do for eternity.

While at the conference I met Pastor Tony who is from the Philippines. Tony is starting the first Calvary Bible Institute in the Philippines this January! Through the training centers he has already started, there have been 4,000 people trained in the word of God as well as 200 churches planted! If you want to experience a better feel of what the conference was like, please watch this short 3 minute video I made while it was happening.

Another awesome thing at the conference was being able to see pastors from both the places in the jungle I visited while in Peru. Pastor Alfredo from San Rafael shared his testimony with the whole crowd, “I had a deep desire to teach the word of God and was asking him to help me. I waited for 6 years and then he sent Pastor Cory to help train me.” This was a new part of Alfredo’s story that I had not heard yet. If you missed it, you can read my previous update to better understand the way God is reaching the unreached in Peru through Calvary Trujillo and Alfredo.

Once the conference was starting the atmosphere at the bible institute changed. There were new people coming each day and I was able to meet many new friends and see old ones. A taxi approached while I was by the front door, and to my joy I saw our friend Pastor Caesar from Pucallpa get out of the car. Pastor Caesar is the head pastor at Calvary Chapel Fidelidad where we went to help with a youth conference. I did not know Caesar was coming so it was a joy to have him there. After the conference, Paul and I got lunch with him as he shared what he learned. “I see now the need to be involved with missions…my church needs a restart.” Caesar’s new vision is one glimpse of the way God moved and spoke through his word to each person at the conference.

Writing this update back in California, I want to finish our Peru journey with one single thought: Jesus is alive and active today. In the first verse of Acts, Luke mentions that in his gospel he wrote about all “Jesus began to do and teach.” The key word here is “began.” Jesus didn’t stop working after the gospel accounts. He kept working through his church in the book of Acts, and he is still working now through His church today. He is working through His church in Peru, and He is working through you and me. Our reasonable response for His glory is to realize this, wake up if we are sleeping, and begin serving the living King.

For His Eternal Kingdom,

Adam Fulmizi

Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support while I was in Peru. All that you read in this update is part of YOUR labor in the gospel. Some questions to answer you might have:

What are you doing next?

The Lord has called me to be home in California for a season, I will assist in administrating and training the next generation to make disciples and plant churches. During this time I will continue leading and serving on short-term mission trips.

What is your long term goal?

My desire is to be sent out full time to a country within the 10/40 window. I have certain countries on my heart, but am open to any unreached area. This means I am working toward living fully off of the financial support that God gives through you, His servants. Would you consider becoming a monthly partner with me in the gospel? You can give through the button below or on my website. Please be praying with me about where Jesus wants me to go.

Where can I hear more about your Peru trip?

We will be having a Peru update event in January at Calvary Chapel WestGrove. Stay Connected to hear more about that. You can connect through the ways at the bottom of this update.

Can I ever come to Peru with you?

Yes!! I am helping to organize a short term mission trip to Peru in the Fall of 2023. Stay connected for more details about this and start praying about joining us!!
