June update

“For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.”

-Colossians 2:5

Dear prayer supporters,
Please join me in rejoicing in God’s faithfulness and fruitful ministry that continues on in the heart of the Amazon jungle with the Apurina People.  God loves them so!
The Brazilian team has faithfully continued regular interior trips to the Apurina since my last update and absence in Brazil.  They are feeding the flock, growing the church, training the leaders, equipping the saints, and calling the lost into saving faith.  Here are their personal notes from the February trip:

February 28th, 2022

We left Manaus on February 8th at night, Nei and my wife, Raquel, with Pastor Anibal and his wife, Luciane. Our plan for this three week is to work with children, youth, and adults.  We went to train church leadership with biblical principles where we have seen weakness and also train the women to work with children.  We don’t know how it will be, but our expectations are high! It takes almost two days to travel up the river. We arrived at the mouth of the lake and visited each village to say that we were there and our intentions.  Finally we arrived in Vila Nova where our base is located.  Because the house was closed for two months, it is natural that we found intruders, such as snakes, tarantulas, huge cockroaches, and rats.  That’s why we need to clean the house first thing to remove dust and expel intruders. After cleaning the house, we already have a schedule at the church and the work doesn’t stop.  A different day we cut all the weeds that had grown up around where we park the boat, the path to the house, and around the house and church. We started studies with the leadership in Vila Nova and Aldeia Nova.  It was a blessing to study with them, for in their simplicity they blessed us so much.  Pastor Anibal and I were teaching the men and Raquel and Luciane were teaching classes for the women.  It was a new experience for us having a three week trip rather than the other times when we spent only 10 days.  Also the first trip without health problems.  We were able to experience the Holy Spirit’s leading us through everything.  Worldliness is also in the village, my brothers!  There are Brazilian school teachers living in the village with the indigenous.  We saw, unfortunately, that their influence was to encourage the consumption of alcohol in the village.  They threw a big end of classes celebration marked by drunkenness of many young people.  But that just makes me understand that they lack the Glory of God and need help.
At the end of our trip we usually visit each village to say goodbye; when we arrived in Macaua there were few people there so we prayed with them and decided to have a service on the floating house where most of them were working.  The time was wonderful!  We had a service in the dark, praising God and praying.  There the appeal was made for new believers to answer God’s call and receive Christ as their Savior, and nine people responded!  Amen!  Then, I kept telling them Biblical stories through the night as they sat in awe and couldn’t take their eyes off me; until the boat passed and we had to go to it.  God be praised!

The Brazilian team also just returned this last week from another amazing trip where they were also preparing for our return in July.

Summer 2022 (Two week trip)
“I am honored to be leaving in just a few short weeks to celebrate the anniversary of the main church in the jungle, July 2nd. Pr. Kenneth and Angela from Scotland will be returning with me along with a couple from my childhood church in Fairbury, NE.  We have a boat rented to take us up river on our needed dates and will be spending 4 days in the villages.  Praying for a revival conference and celebration that edifies the believers, calls more out of darkness, and glorifies God’s wonderful name!  We will take translators, our Brazilian team, and guests from the Brazilian Baptist Church in Manaus including our beloved Pastor John and his wife, Antonia.
I am so excited to see all the people and fellowship with this amazing team that has been chosen by God!  Please join me in prayer for this ministry, its future, and cover these days June 27th – July 11th of my personal trip.

May God bless each of you and keep you in his saving grace,

Melissa Miller
