Apologetics and More!

Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. Psalm 25:5 NKJV

It is hard to believe that the Christmas season and January have passed so quickly!  We have been busy and blessed. We thank God that Kayo’s and Benjamin’s Cambodian visas were renewed for another year. Please pray that the same path for renewal will remain open for Darryl in the middle of this year.

Darryl has been busier than usual. In addition to teaching English at the Jesus Life Center, he gave their Christmas/New Year’s service message. He spoke about the Old Testament prophecies that confirm that Jesus is the Messiah. He took a break from English teaching in January but plans to resume teaching in February.

Darryl continues to help with Light Times magazine. He edits English articles and submitted an article on the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ for the Easter issue. He also continues to help with the Chinese ministry which is sponsored by the international church.

The first two weeks of January, Darryl taught an intensive Christian Apologetics class at Cambodia Bible Institute. He had ten students. The students prepared scripts and acted out Apologetics on various topics such as, “If God is Good Why is There So Much Suffering?” “Those Who Never Heard.” “If I Believe in Jesus Will I Betray My Culture?”  and “The Origin of Evil.”  Darryl video-recorded the skits and made videos for Facebook, YouTube, and the International Fishers website. He also sent the scripts to a missionary in northern Cambodia for translation and production into a tribal language.

Kayo and Benjamin visited Darryl’s Apologetics class at the Cambodia Bible Institute.

From January 22-26, Darryl traveled to northern Thailand to teach Christian Apologetics to five pastors and evangelists from India. This class was arranged and sponsored by the

Myanmar Reformed Presbyterian School of Theology. The director of this school is Dr. Jun, Darryl’s old friend and the former President of a Bible school in Cambodia where Darryl used to teach. The trip went well because it was covered with prayer. Darryl will continue to provide Apologetics tech-support for these Indian pastors via e-mail as they use his book and teaching materials to equip people in their own churches.

Kayo was also busier than usual as she had to take on extra activities while Darryl was away and occupied. She continues to lead worship at the international church. Her work with Precious Women Ministry as the Administrative Department Advisor is going well as she helps with administrative work and mentors the staff. The organization continues to grow and reach out to more at-risk women. The Japanese Life Group is also going well and is growing slowly.

Benjamin is doing well in school. He is growing up so quickly that sometimes it is hard to believe how fast the years have passed!

Thanks in advance for your continued prayers, encouragement, and support. May God bless you and give you an amazing new year in 2018!

Merry Christmas From Cambodia

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

Benjamin continues to do well in school.  Here is a picture of his “ninja-bread” cookies that he made with Kayo.

Darryl continues partnering with Light Times Magazine the only Christian magazine in Cambodia.  For their last issue he helped with editing the English of this bilingual magazine and he wrote an article, “Why Does God Allow Suffering.”  Two Light Times volunteers are working to make that article into a video in the Cambodian language.  Even though it is faster for Darryl to make videos on his own, the quality improvement will be worth the wait.  Darryl is also helping with the international church’s ministry to Chinese, by helping them learn English and the Bible.  Translation has started for making a video “Why Does God Allow Suffering?” in Mandarin (Chinese). Making apologetic/evangelistic videos in Chinese has been a dream of Darryl’s for several years.  Finally it is coming true!    Darryl is also teaching English and Bible at Jesus Life Center, a Cambodian church and dormitory.  He was also able to supply evangelistic videos for a Christian business owner here in Cambodia to show to his employees.

Kayo continues to lead worship for the international church.  Christmas is a busy time for her.   She also continues to work with Precious Women Ministry, an organization that reaches out to at-risk women.  Her Japanese ministry is also going well.

Prayer Requests:

  1. Please pray for health and strength.
  2. Please pray for Darryl as he prepares to teach two intensive Apologetics classes in January in Cambodia and Thailand.
  3. Please pray for Kayo as she balances her various ministries.
  4. Please pray for Benjamin that he will continue to grow strong in the Lord.

Merry Christmas,

Darryl, Kayo, and Benjamin

Bread Upon the Waters

Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days. Ecclesiastes 11:1 ESV

Darryl with believers from the Jirei tribe.

Sometimes in life and ministry we don’t see the fruit immediately.  Especially in media ministry Darryl often feels that his calling is to take the gospel to people that he will never meet, in languages he will never speak, in places he will never go.  Normally it is fine to trust God that someday in heaven he will get to meet the people who have read his books, listened to his radio programs, and watched his videos.  But, sometimes it is nice to receive some feedback.

A few days ago, Darryl attended a meeting at Far East Broadcasting (FEBC).  He wasn’t sure of why he was there meeting a group of Christians and missionaries from the Jirei tribe in rural Cambodia.  At the end of the meeting he was told that they have translated the Anchors of Faith radio program, that Darryl developed a few years ago, (26 half-hour episodes) into the Jirei language and that they are playing the program on a radio station in rural Cambodia and in tribal churches!   When they found out that Darryl has also produced videos, they were interested in translating them into Jirei as well.  Thanks again to all of you who supported this project years ago!  It is still bearing fruit after many days.

Things are going well for us.  We are glad that the rainy season is ending and along with it knee-deep flooded streets that cause us to pray for our car when the waves from other cars wash over the hood.

Benjamin continues to do well in school.  His class is studying the human body.  Benjamin not only knew most of the body parts but knew about cells and DNA from watching apologetics/intelligent design videos.  For homework, his teacher asked him to draw a diagram of the cell for his classmates and he did it.

Kayo continues to volunteer at Precious Women Ministry, to minister to Japanese living in Cambodia, and is part of the worship team at the international church.  She is also reaching out to our apartment building’s cleaning-lady.

Our 13th wedding anniversary!

Darryl has started partnering with Light Times Magazine, the only Christian magazine in Cambodia.  Some of his video scripts will be published as articles in the magazine and they can help him produce better quality videos in the Cambodian language.   A new video, “If God is Good, Why is There Evil and Suffering in the World?” in Cambodian language is in process.  Another missionary from rural Cambodia e-mailed and requested videos to show her students during the upcoming holidays. He also is helping out with the Chinese ministry at the international church.  They are also interested in producing apologetics and evangelistic videos in Chinese and want Darryl’s help.

Thank you for your partnership in our lives and ministries.  May God reward you for your faithfulness!

Prayer Requests:

  1. Please pray for continued health, wisdom, and strength for all of us as our ministries expand.
  2. We thank God for providing a temporary solution to our visa problem.  Please pray for wisdom and for a long term solution.
  3. Please pray for our long-term vision and needs.

Taste and See that the Lord is Good

Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8

God has blessed us as we take refuge in Him.  August and September have flown by as Benjamin returned to the 3rd grade at Hope International School. He is doing well and is even continuing his judo in an after school club.

Kayo has been busy with worship team at church and at a women’s conference.  She restarted the Japanese Life Group ministry in August.  She also serves at Precious Women Ministry as a volunteer to help with administration once or twice a week and working from home.

Darryl released the videos, “What About Those Who Never Heard about Jesus Christ?” and “Did Jesus Really Rise From the Dead?” to more than 12,000 people in Cambodia.  The website continues to equip around a thousand visitors each month.

Darryl and Kayo also resumed Cambodian language study.

Prayer Requests:

  1. The Cambodian government is tightening regulations on foreigners including driver’s licenses and visas.  Please pray for wisdom as we must navigate these new challenges.
  2. Please continue to pray for our health and strength.
  3. Please continue to pray for our various ministries.

Cambodia Ministry Update

At Our Landlord’s Wedding

“Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some,”  When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.” John 21:6

God blessed us with a productive month of July as we returned to our various ministries.  Here are some of the highlights.

  • Darryl’s new video, Archaeology and the Bible, in the Cambodian language, was made available to more than 29,000 Cambodians via Facebook.  It received more than 1,600 views from www.facebook.com/internationalfishers alone.  It also received 140 likes and 86 shares from two of the smaller pages that we can track statistically.
  • www.internationalfishers.com is up to 344 unique visitors and 1,062 page views per week.
  • Darryl was invited to teach Christian Apologetics again at the Cambodian Bible Institute in January.
  • Darryl was also invited to teach Christian Apologetics to pastors from Myanmar who travel to Thailand for training in February.
  • Darryl helped a Christian hospital connect with Fount of Wisdom Publishing so they can equip their staff with the book, Christianity: Reasons for Faith.  It is good that the book is still being used to equip people in Cambodia.
  • Kayo led devotions at Precious Women Ministry, and is exploring future activities with this ministry.
  • Kayo has returned to the International Christian Assembly’s worship team.
  • Benjamin had a good time at vacation Bible school at ICA.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and support.  We sense God’s blessings and favor.  Please continue to pray for strength, health, and wisdom as we continue to connect with our ministry partners and explore exciting new partnership opportunities.

In Christ’s Hands,

Darryl

Back in Cambodia

Greetings from Cambodia!

Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.John 21:6

We arrived in Cambodia on June 2 and God has been faithful to us.  We have been able to reconnect with our ministry partners.  Darryl has been working on producing a video in Khmer and English entitled, The Bible and Archaeology. He is also writing and revising other video scripts for future projects and some blog posts as well.  The website, www.internationalfishers.com is ministering  to Cambodians in Cambodia and in the USA as well. Around 288 people visit the website each week.  This is an encouraging number considering our eleven month sabbatical.

God has provided a safe comfortable apartment for us and a car.  Kayo will return to worship team and other ministries in the coming weeks. Right now she is busy getting us settled in our new place. Benjamin was able to reconnect with his classmates at Hope International School.  He will be a third grader there in the fall.  He finished his home schooling so now he is on summer vacation.  He enjoys reading and listening to audiobooks.

Please continue to pray for health and strength for us as we resume our ministries and explore what God has for us in this new chapter of ministry in Cambodia.

May 17 Dessert Gathering

In less than a month, on June 1, we will fly back to Cambodia.  We have a lot of packing between now and then and once we get there we will need to buy a car and find a place to live. We will be staying in the Green Pasture Inn for a few days after our arrival.  Green Pasture Inn is a Christian run guesthouse that specializes in accommodating short term mission teams and missionaries.

For our friends in southern California, we would like to invite you to a Dessert Gathering hosted by Calvary Chapel La Mirada (15144 Leffingwell Road, La Mirada, CA 90638) on Wednesday May 17th immediately after the Wednesday service (around 8:45pm).  It will be a good opportunity for us to fellowship and share with our senders before we depart on June 1.  We hope you can come.

Things have been going well with us.  Kayo and Benjamin continue to wrap up his homeschooling for the year.  Darryl is writing video scripts for future evangelistic videos once we return to Cambodia.

Record Family Cambodia Update: Returning to Cambodia

Isaiah 41:10b I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

We praise God for opening the doors for us to return to Cambodia as missionaries! We will be returning to Cambodia on June 1 after nearly eleven months away. We look forward to this new season of ministry. We have been blessed by our time in the USA but now the time is coming to move into the next season. Please pray that it will be a fruitful and blessed season. We want to thank everyone who prayed, encouraged, hosted, loaned us vehicles, and supported us during this time of furlough. We trust that God will bless you for your faithfulness to Him.

Once we return to Cambodia, Darryl will resume his work with International Fishers: Christian Evidence Ministry. The purpose of this ministry is to equip local churches, organizations, and believers with the evidence they need to be confident in the truth of God’s Word so that they can evangelize others with more boldness. He will also resume other ministries as God opens the doors. He is writing a video script on the inspiration of the Bible so that he can hit the ground running once we return. Please pray for renewed creativity for him.

Kayo will continue her ministries of mentoring Cambodian women, worship ministry, and reaching out to Japanese living in Cambodia.

Benjamin will return to Hope International School as a 3rd grader this fall.

Merry Christmas from the Record Family/Cambodia Missions Update

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

2016-07-06-21-10-55

With our dear friends, missionaries to Cambodia from Fiji.

As we come to the end of 2016, we have the opportunity to reflect on the past year and to look forward to 2017.  After serving as missionaries since 2007, 2016 has been a year of reflection, rest, reading the Word and other books, and reconnecting with family, friends, and our calling as missionaries to Cambodia, a real sabbatical.  We are thankful for all of the grace and blessings we have received.  We also give thanks to God for providing for our practical needs of housing, transportation, and finances through faithful ministry partners, church family, and some other amazing miraculous ways.

We lived and wrapped up our work in Cambodia until June 2016. Benjamin could successfully finish his school year at Hope International School and we sold and stored some of our belongings there. We arrived at Los Angeles on July 7 and are staying in the greater Los Angeles area where our mission agency and main sending church in the USA are located. Darryl has been able to get the medical treatment and member care that he needs to return to health and strength.  Kayo’s Green Card process has gone smoother than we expected and so she should receive her new Green Card around February 2017. Benjamin has been occupied with homeschooling through a charter school and is also taking a Judo (Japanese martial art) class at a local community center.

Lord willing, we will start getting ready to return to our mission field, Cambodia after the first of the year.  The returning date on our returning tickets to Phnom Penh, Cambodia is March 25, 2017.  Thanks in advance for your faithful prayers and encouragement that God has used to restore and refresh us.

Merry Christmas!

Darryl, Kayo, and Benjamin Record
