June 2008 Update
Dear Family and Friends,
We hope that this newsletter finds you well and abiding in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Dinah Apiyo has been attending Calvary Chapel Nairobi for the past 2 ½ years. She has always shown up super early at church for women’s bible studies & for Sunday service.
For the people who don’t know about Dinah may assume that she is very quiet & reserved. Dinah has been suffering from Schizophrenia for many years now. She has 2 little girls 6 years & 2 years. Her sister informed us that these children were as a result of rape by unidentified men & also acquired the HIV virus from the rapist. Dinah lives is a little tin shack in the Nando slum (behind the church building) and she lives there alone with her 2 little girls. Dinah can hardly communicate because of her mental illness. But she faithfully attends all the women’s bible studies at the church and she also takes part in the Rabuna Fi craft project and makes beaded belts as she cannot sew sequins on pashminas . She uses the money she earns from making these belts to buy food for her family.
Earlier last month we found out that Dinah is 5 months pregnant with yet another child as a result of rape & currently she is not in good health. The church has been helping her out with food. We are looking for place that will take care of her and her children. We have contacted several organizations that help women with HIV and living in extreme difficulty. They informed us that most homes for “Women living in extreme difficulty” are hesitant to take her in because of her mental Illness and the solution would be to send her to a psychiatric hospital. But then she would have to be separated from her children. So please join us in prayer for Dinah that God would open doors for a caring home for her & her children. Thank you.
Also at Women’s Tailoring project last month there were many items going missing possibly being stolen including parts of sewing machines. We were asked to come and talk to the ladies and come up with a solution for the problem. Twinkle talked to the women about living a righteous life and if they had stolen things from the Tailoring project that they need to return it or if they had been careless and lost things then they need to pay back for the stuff they lost. She also asked the ladies to look up 3 verses in the bible about stealing and to write it down in paper & write how it applies to them personally. We were blessed to return the following week to find that the ladies had all done their home work & all of the missing stuff was either returned or replaced. Praise the Lord! Otherwise, all other ministries are going well at the church.
We have been sick this past month..Bianca & Sophia seem to be having coughs & colds on and off.. Bianca has managed to attend pre-school on the days when she feels better and has many little friends.. Her teacher at school tells us that she is well behaved & takes instructions very well. Praise the Lord! Her vocabulary is so broad now and she asks questions about everything.
The Rees’ were able to find affordable housing in Rwanda and will be scoping out the Land on the 23rd of June. Please pray that Lord would grant them favor in the eyes of the Rwandan government & people.
Please pray that our children would recover soon from sickness.
Philippians 3: 8-9: “Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him not having my own righteousness, which is from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith””
Thank you so much for your prayers & for your financial support for our ministry . May our God Bless you!
~ In the Love of Christ Jesus,
Dave, Twinkle, Bianca & Sophia Zavala..
