WHAT A DUMP!

Hi friends!

It is our second week in the School of Missions. Thank you so much for the prayers as we continue here in Mexico. This week, we have had several opportunities to go on outreaches in the hills of Rosarito.

Preparing our hearts and minds as we go out and serve.

In addition to our daily class schedule, we do things a little differently for our outreaches. While the speakers are preparing for their teachings and testimonies, the rest of our team spends a special time in prayer, organizes outreach prep, and assemble food for the people we will be ministering to.

“Today I’m bringing you to the dump with me.”

Sitting in Calvary Homex, just a quick drive from the Rosarito Dump, we listen to Pastor Eddie as he shares the history of his ministry over the years. After years of visits to the Dump, Eddie realized the need for continual discipleship and community thus birthed the church plant, Calvary Homex. Eddie’s faithful ministry to the people working and living in the Dump and how the church was established, has been encouraging to the whole team.

Spending the afternoon with Pastor Eddie.

Even though most of our team had never walked through a dump, let alone met anyone that lived or worked in a dump, it didn’t take long to realize why God had us all there. This dump turned into God’s meeting room. We all were able to quickly realize our assignment…to share His love and hope with those who lived in this neighborhood. During the afternoon our team had the honor to pray for a variety of people. Several were concerned about family members, drug addiction, and their need of physical healing. Others were seeking a closer walk with the Lord and His continued protection and provision. As we prepared to leave, I thought about how grateful I was to have the opportunity to pray for these people and know that they will continue receiving discipleship and community through Pastor Eddie’s weekly visits.

God’s meeting room, prayer with new friends made.

A few days later, we had the opportunity to go back and visit with Pastor Eddie and join with his church to put on an outreach at the local park just a couple blocks from his church. I sure enjoyed greeting people we had invited as they enjoyed this afternoon event catered to both adults and children. I spent much of the afternoon with one of the local gals I had invited that showed up with her sweet daughter. I had an opportunity to pray with her for her family and my hope is that she decides to join into the community since she only lives three blocks away.

Connecting with Pastor Eddie

Spending these days with Pastor Eddie and seeing how these outreaches impacted the local community around his church confirmed what we have been learning in our classes. Through our classes, we have been taught how much more effective it is to partner with local churches to help reach their communities. Our efforts may only be short-term, but the church that we partnered with is able to do a long-term work to their community.

“Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Matthew 9:37-38
