Djibouti & Brunei

Djibouti: is a country in Africa in the horn of Africa.  It is bordered by Eritrea in the north, Ethiopia in the west and south, and Somalia in the southeast. The remainder of the border is formed by the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.  94% of Djibouti is Muslim and the rest are Christian. Most of those Christians are foreigners. Citizens are officially considered Muslims but the government imposes no sanctions on those who practice other faiths. Religious groups must register. There are no legal repercussions for conversion from Islam to another religion, but converts often face pressure from family and society to turn back. Although not prohibited, evangelism is discouraged.

Brunei: is a sovereign state located on the north coast of the island of Borneo, in Southeast Asia. 67% of the population practices Islam. The Constitution states, “The religion of Brunei Darussalam shall be the Muslim religion according to the Shafi’i sect of that religion: Provided that all other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony by the person professing them in any part of Brunei Darussalam.” However, the Government imposed many restrictions on non-Shafi’i and non-Islamic religious practice. The law discourages Muslims from learning about other faiths. At the same time, Islamic authorities organize a range of activities to explain and propagate Islam, as well as offering financial incentives and housing.

Prayer Points:

1. Please pray for Djibouti that even though is ever small that they would be a light in darkness around them. Pray for the believer’s to be strong in their faith and to share Christ with others.
2. Please pray for those who face family pressure to be Muslim.  Pray that they would find the way to investigate who Jesus is and not get caught and persecuted by family and friends.
3. Pray that the eyes would be open and the hearts would be softened to the gospel.  Pray that everyone who wants to know Jesus would be able to have a bible. Pray that more literature and bibles are distributed though out the country.
4. Pray for the nation of Brunei.  Pray that they would come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.
5. Pray against the laws that oppose Christianity and that the people would have the freedom with out persecution to practice their own religion.
6. Pray against those who would “bribe” the people of Brunei with money and housing. Pray that more missionaries would go to Brunei and share the gospel with the people there. Pray that God would raise up the people this country and reach the whole island with the gospel!
