30 Days of Ramadan-The Night of Power (Laylat al Qadr)
As Muslims faithfully observe the month of Ramadan, from Chad to Kazakhstan, Yemen to Fiji, one night stands alone in significance. This night is known as The Night of Power.
On the 27th day of Ramadan (Dates given are estimated according to the lunar cycle. Exact dates are determined by Islamic authorities.) This night is remembered each year as the night when, supposedly, Muhammad received the first revelation of the Qur’an in a cave on Mont Hira, near Mecca in the year AD 610. The Qur’an states that this night is better than a thousand months.
Today, Muslims often think that this night is a special night when God gives heed to their requests and they are often open to dreams and visions at this time seeking guidance and revelation. This is a time that Muslims spend in study and prayer. Some will spend the whole night in prayer or in reciting the Qur’an.
Those who can afford to devote their time in the remembrance of God stay in the mosque for the final ten days of Ramadan. This worship is called itikaf (retreat). They observe fast during the day and occupy themselves with the remembrance of God, performing voluntary prayers and studying the Qur’an, day and night, apart from the obligatory prayers which they perform with the congregation. Food and other necessities of life are provided for them during their stay in the mosque, thus they may not leave the precincts of the mosque except for a genuine religious purpose. Devoting time to remember God, Muslims hope to receive divine favors and blessings connected with the blessed night.
According to the Qur’an, Allah listens directly (or via the angel Gabriel) to the requests of Muslims concerning their ‘fate’; As Muhammad had his destiny fulfilled by receiving the revelation of the Qur’an on this night, Muslims believe that some possibility exists for changing human destiny at this time. Because of this, this night is also known as ‘The Night of Destiny. This night seems equally important in Orthodox Islam and in Folk Islam.
Please Pray:
1. That Muslims will ask to receive the Truth on this, “Night of Power.”
2. Muslim hearts and minds to be open to and receive the Truth tonight: Jesus Christ crucified for the sins of the world and raised from the dead by the Power of God.
3. Jesus to reveal Himself through dramatic dreams and visions to the Muslim people.
4. Islamic extremists, militants, and jihadists to be delivered from the dominion of darkness and brought into the Kingdom of God.
5. Pray for a spiritual revival to break out in the Muslim World, where nations upon nations will accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
6. That the veil of blindness to be removed from the eyes of Muslims and enable them to see the futility of their works-based religion and its false gods.
7. The Light of Jesus Christ to shine into the Islamic world, destroying the strongholds of the enemy and causing walls of deception to crumble.
Thank you for praying with us.
