Mauritania: is a country in North Africa. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean in the west, by Western Sahara in the north, by Algeria in the northeast, by Mali in the east and southeast, and by Senegal in the southwest. Almost the entire nation of Mauritania practices Islam. Freedom of religion in Mauritania is limited by the Government. The constitution establishes the country as an Islamic republic and decrees that Islam is the religion of its citizens and the State. Non-Muslim resident expatriates and a few non-Muslim citizens practice their religion openly with certain limitation on proselytizing and transmission of religious materials. Conversion to another religion is punishable by death, although no such sentences have been carried out by the state recently.

Kosovo: is bordered in the north by Serbia, the east by Bulgaria, the southeast by Macedonia, the west by Albania, and the northwest by Montenegro. Kosovo is 90% Muslim.  Kosovo was an autonomous federal unit of Yugoslavia until 1989. In 1989, the Serbian government stripped away the basic rights of the Albanians (hereafter Kosovars) and suspended the Kosovo parliament. Initially, the Kosovars responded with peaceful and passive resistance. In 1992, the Kosovars continued to hold elections, chose their leaders, and utilize the Albanian language, education, and health-care. Later a guerrilla movement called the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) was formed after peaceful attempts were ineffective. In 1998, the Serbian (former Yugoslavian) government began a campaign of violence (“ethnic cleansing”) against civilians, including women and children, causing over a quarter of a million Kosovars to flee the country.

There isn’t much current information regarding the religion in Kosovo except that it’s Muslim.

Prayer Points:

1. Pray for Mauritania as a nation that they would come to see their need for Jesus. Pray that their eyes would be open to the truth and hearts would be soften to receiving the gospel.
2. Pray for the few believers in Mauritania as they are hinder and persecuted by their own government because of their faith.  Pray that God would change the laws of Mauritania so that the people would have freedom of religion.
3. Pray that bibles and other religion material would be freely distributed through out the nation and without hindrance.
4. Pray for the LORD to raise up more missionaries to reach Mauritania and Kosovo.
5. Pray for Kosovo that those who have fled their nation would come to know the truth of Jesus and take the gospel back to their home country.
6. Pray for the people of Kosovo who are Muslim to have dreams, visions and experiences with Jesus. Pray that the Jesusfilm and other media would be shown through out the nation. Pray that many would place their faith in Jesus.
