Monica Johnson Missions Update September 2010

September 1st, 2010

Hello, Miss Johnson here!

I’m almost done with my 2nd week of school– everything has been going really well. So much fun having my own classroom and the kids are so sweet! They are from all over the world, and come with so much experience already. I have 25 kids, as of now. It is a lot of work though. Planning and writing lesson plans, and all of the other responsibilities of being a teacher is going to be exhausting each week. But I’m happy to do it and serve these children.

Something that has been really cool is teaching Bible to the kids. Each morning (as a staff) we start the day off with devotions and prayer. Then the first period of the day everyone has Bible class in their homeroom. It’s awesome to be able to share and teach my students about Jesus and His word. Most of my students have many prayer requests and are eager to pray for each other. It’s so awesome!

Please pray:
Pray that my student’s relationship with Jesus will grow this year. Many are unsure of how they became Christians. One girl doesn’t have any clue what her parents are doing here or how/if she is a Christian. One boy said that he was a Christian because his father is one, and it wouldn’t matter if his mother was but since in Ethiopia they give their father’s name as their last name, that is why he is a “Christian.” I have already been able to have good conversations with a handful of them! Very open doors…and soft hearts. Pray. On the other hand, there are a bunch that are very certain that when they die they will go to heaven!

Pray for this coming up week and that I would be able to get all of my planning done and be prepared. This past week has been a bit stressful with getting everything done.

Pray that the Lord would use me as I begin coaching Girls Varsity Volleyball…starts Sept 7th!! I’m really excited about being able to get to know the older girls of the school and minister to them.

Lastly, please pray from my health. Today I left school early because I didn’t feel well and came home to sleep. I’ve been very achy, with a stomach ache, and headache.

P.S. Our internet here is really bad…goes off all the time and very slow (we didn’t have it last week for 6 days in a row). So please don’t be offended if I don’t respond promptly to you and don’t worry about me. I’m in good.

-Monica
