Libya, Jordan & United Arab Emirates

Libya: is a country located in the north of Africa with Egypt to the east, Sudan to the southeast and Algeria to the west.  97% of the population of Libya professes to be Muslim. In Libya there are no laws that explicitly provide for religious freedom. The country adheres to Islamic law and all citizens are Sunni Muslims ‘by definition’. It is prohibited to evangelize Muslims or distribute Arabic scriptures. Small Christian communities are almost exclusively expatriates.

Jordan: is a country where 94% of the population follows Islam. Jordan is located in Southwest Asia. Jordan is south of Syria, southwest of Iraq, east of Israel, and west of Saudi Arabia. It spreads from the Syrian Desert down to the Gulf of Aqaba. The Constitution provides for the freedom to practice the rights of one’s religion and faith in accordance with the customs that are observed in the Kingdom, unless they violate public order or morality. The state religion is Islam. The Government prohibits conversion from Islam and proselytizing of Muslims. Pressure has increased on foreign Christians, with some pastors being deported for ‘illegal’ missionary activities.

United Arab Emirates: A federation of seven states formed in 1971, this is one of the most liberal countries in the Gulf. Around 80% of the population is foreign workers. The constitution provides for freedom of religion, although some restrictions are applied. Religious groups with dedicated religious buildings can worship together. Evangelizing Muslims is strictly forbidden. The distribution of Christian literature is prohibited and religious websites are sometimes blocked.

Prayer Points:

1. Please pray for the small Christian communities of expatriates in Libya.  Pray for strength, unity, courage and God’s protection.
2. Pray for Christian literature to enter and be distributed through out Libya.
3. Pray for those who have been deported from Jordan.  Pray for their families and friends who have been left without their loved one.
4. Pray for more families to come to know Jesus through out Jordan.
5. Please pray for more believers to come to the United Arab Emirates. Pray that more home bible studies will form through out the country.
6. Please pray for opportunities for the people of the United Arab Emirates to search out who Jesus is through websites without the government finding out or monitoring.
