Davis Family April 2010 Missions Update-England
Hi guys, things here in Newcastle have overall been going well here, but it seems more of a season of what God is doing in us rather than through us. We have been so blessed with the addition of Adam and Evan from the states and we are learning how to work as a team. Tammy has been greatly freed up from many of her responsibilities with them here and she is getting to be more in mom mode. This in itself has been a huge blessing for us. On May 11th we will be joined by Josh another young man in his mid 20′s from the States coming to help out for at least 6 months while he is praying about a longer term commitment. Please pray for these guys and the transition they are experiencing while being over here. They are doing well but they are finding it really hard here. I think it is very easy to come to England with Romanticized ideas of Castles and beautiful countryside but it is also very hard spiritually, and it is difficult to continue to minister here day in and day out without some of the relational support networks we have been accustomed to in the States. Adam will be leaving on June 3rd back to the States and will be applying for a missionary visa to come back on a permanent basis. Evan will be leaving on June 13th back to the States for permanent not sensing a long term calling here.
On a note of praise! We asked for prayer in our last update concerning needed finances to help support the guys while they are here and the Lord answered! We have received a check for 3,000 pounds from a Christian Trust over here to help support our youth workers housing costs. We needed to raise $350 a month for housing costs, and $100 a month for food costs. We will be able to spend the money we received over the 6 month rent of the house, which only leaves us with needing to raise $100 a month for food. Please pray regarding the outstanding amount, I know the Lord will provide. This isn’t a plead to make anyone feel pressured to give it simply is a praise report and prayer request for what’s outstanding if anyone feel genuinely prompted by the Lord to help make up the outstanding amount than let us know.
We have started a Saturday night youth bible study and fellowship night which has been going for the past 4 weeks and is bearing good fruit, with about 20 kids coming.
I will be speaking this Friday night at a Christian Union meeting to around 300 University Students on I Kings 11 and the demise of Solomon not having a loyal heart to the Lord (v.4). Please pray for me to take heed to the word myself and to challenge these students to have loyal hearts to God in these difficult days.
I have also been asked to speak three sessions on what “Freedom in Christ” means at a youth conference in May to the combined youth groups of churches from all over the UK. Please pray for God’s anointing in my preparation and deliverance of God’s word for this time.
On a personal note Tammy and I are feeling deeply challenged as to what it really means to be followers of Christ as opposed to just being Christians or Christian ministers. Please pray that our fellowship with Christ would be of a deeper nature than our mere words. As I mentioned last time I feel a concentrated pressure of the enemy on us and the church right now as things seem to really be falling into place. It is easy to entertain ideas that it would be so much easier work to just pack things in and to get a secular job than to persevere, but I know that the Lord is calling us forward, not to pull back. Tammy and I sincerely feel as this temptation is from the enemy during such a critical time, please pray for endurance, the power of the Spirit, and a heavenly mindset for us.
We love you guys and pray the Lord continues to poor out His Spirit upon you as we follow Christ.
In His Love,
Drew and Tammy
