A Note from SGWM Director Mike Thiemann
Dear Family, Friends & Supporters,
I am writing you this note to let you know that I will be heading to Haiti tomorrow (January 31). I will be traveling down with a team of nine other guys from various ministries. Below is a breakdown of where we are going and what we will be doing and some information on how you can get involved.
Who we are working with:
We will be working with a missionary that has been in Haiti for over 30 years. He pastors a local church and runs a school and orphanage. (For security reasons we are not allowed to specify any details.)
Purpose
Our primary goal will be to evangelize and to disciple believers, using physical relief as a way to open doors for ministry. Ministry opportunities are as follows:
- Medical- we will be setting up a medical center inside the compound to treat earthquake victims. We are looking for trained medical persons in all fields who would be able to travel down to Haiti and assist us in providing medical attention to the earthquake victims.
- Construction- clearing rubble and rebuilding homes for members of the local church. We are looking into funding a brick-making machine to provide employment for church members, while at the same time, providing reasonably priced bricks for our own construction projects.
- Village Ministry- working with roughly 250 people living in Grantier Lake doing evangelism, VBS, and food relief. This is a community an hour away from Port au Prince that has no resources and typically does not receive any aid because they are so far from the city.
- Refugee Camp Ministry- doing evangelism and food relief in the refugee camps located in Port au Prince. We are working to get a portable kitchen to be able to provide hot meals for the people. We will also be providing tents, tarps, and sleeping mats for the people in these areas.
- Promise Child sponsorship ministry provides for the needs of children for $15 a month, with 100% of all sponsorship funds going directly to the children. We will be targeting what is projected to be the over 3 million orphans, and will be collecting information necessary to begin support. For more information on this wonderful ministry SGWM partners with please visit their website at www.promisechild.com.
How you can get involved:
- Go on a short term trip to Haiti
- It is our goal to send a continual rotation of teams from several different churches.
- Trips will last 7-10 days, and will cost approximately $800-$1200.
- Trip prices will be as inexpensive as possible as will be adding no administrative costs.
- Missionaries should be prepared to only bring what they can carry in a backpack, and be willing to sleep outside until we know the area is earthquake safe.
- Get prepared by visiting your doctor and getting all your needed shots.
- Make sure your passport us up-to-date
- Spread the word
- Sign up to receive updates by visiting www.sgwm.com/newsblog, www.twitter.com/sgwmissions, SGWM’s Facebook page.
- Forward all updates to anyone you can think of that would be interested.
- Repost all updates on your Facebook, twitter, myspace, you blog, etc…
- Donate
- As you can imagine the task ahead of us is massive and the needs are more then we can even imagine. But don’t let that discourage you… It is in times like these that God loves to show Himself faithful by doing one miracle after another. Pray how God would have you get involved in donating money or resources and helping to encourage others to get behind the work by financially supporting it.
- If you are interested in donating financially please visit our DONATION PAGE.
- If you are interested in donation resources like medicine, medical supplies, water filters, etc… please contact the SGWM home office at 714-993-4801 x2 or by e-mail at information@sgwm.com.
I want to thank you ahead of time for all your prayers. We are traveling into a land that has been totally devastated and we need your prayers for safety, wisdom, compassion, etc… And again please check www.sgwm.com/newsblog for all our updates, pictures & videos. It is my prayer (if the internet works) that I will be able to send you daily updates and photos (that is something you can pray about also).
God Bless,
Mike Thiemann
