  2. God’s Faithfulness During our Furlough – May/June Updates

    July 4, 2010 by Administrator

“…How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” - Romans 10:15b

During  May Megan and Michael finished the school year at Calvary Christian School.  They were happy to have met new friends, and to have had the opportunity to sit in a classroom setting once again after having been home schooled while serving in the mission field.  Saying good-bye to there new classmates was hard, however they now have new pen pals!

During the last part of May and the first part of June, we had some wonderful opportunities to share what the Lord has been doing through us in ministering to the youth in Hungary and Slovakia at a Missions Conference in Philadelphia, PA, with a number of our supporters, several pastors, and congregations.  It has been exciting to see how the Lord provided, how He gave us divine appointments, and how He renewed the hearts of many supporters that we have been unable to share personal updates with on previous furloughs.

“And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved…”  Joel2:32a

During the last week of May, our family shared with the congregation at Good Hope Tabernacle in West Virginia.  This is one of our supporting churches.  We also sold over $100 in home-made Hungarian necklaces after the service!  On Monday and Tuesday, we did some work for a neighbor to bless them and ended up being blessed in return with enough money to cover the cost of our travels.  We were also given the opportunity to share and encourage three of our family members which had been saved a few days before our arrival.  All were encouraged to witness fruit of praying!  On Wednesday we shared a 20 minute slide presentation of the ministry with Good Hope Tabernacle.  Megan shared with those in attendance what it is like living in another culture as a teen.  Michael and Megan also shared various dialogues in Hungarian.  This resulted in several families standing up in front of the congregation giving their testimonies of appreciation to have been given the opportunity to see the ministry they have been supporting and sharing how much they appreciate the sacrifices our family has made by stepping out in faith, and how these sacrifices have impacted their lives.   As the congregation was dismissed, we received additional donations towards Kid’s Club ministry, and additional sales of the necklaces/magnet were made.  At the end of the service, pastor Hoover announced to the congregation that they would be taking up a special offering for us the following Sunday.  We were extremely blessed with their generosity!

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.”  1 Thessalonians 4:16

This was the first time in seven years that we have been with Sam’s Mom to share in the decorating of our families grave’s sites on  top of  Indian Camp, in West Virginia on Memorial Day.   It was especially emotional for Megan and Michael as they were able to see where their grandpa had been buried, and so many other family members that went before us.   Just a few days later, when traveling to the Tri-State area of Kentucky, Michelle would have the opportunity to visit her father’s grave for the first time since his death 5 years ago.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which GOD PREPARED in ADVANCE for us to do.”  Ephesians 2:10

At the beginning of June we visited and shared ministry updates with several supporters in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio.  While traveling in these areas, we were able to stay with Michelle’s step-mom.  We were  blessed to have had some extra time with her, that we did not have in past furloughs.  We enjoyed a walk in a park and shared many laughs about things that happened years ago.  We also helped one of our supporters with some electrical work and they donated some additional money for our travels.  These dear friends, had once been Virginia neighbors before moving to the Tri-State area.  Our children have enjoyed growing up together, which have made our friendship’s bonds priceless.  While in KY, we visited a supporter, the MST had been praying for.   This visit impacted the supporter so deeply because we had taken the time to share our ministry updates.  His wife had suffered from a heart attack several years ago, which resulted in a brain injury.  Another supporter we visited again was blessed with the provided updates.  They called our visit, “The Lord’s timing”, because they were currently in the middle of a court trial which resulted from the death of their daughter which was Michelle’s childhood friend.  It was evident during these travels, God has placed us when and where we needed to be at just the right time!

On Sunday, June 6, we shared with the congregation at CC Tristate in Ohio for 15 minutes.  This is a very missions-minded church and even supports some missionaries in Hungary.  After the service, pastor Ed Gaines blessed our ministry with a support check.  Also, several members of the congregation said that they would be praying about helping to support us on a monthly basis.  In addition, we had the opportunity to share for a long time with a husband and wife and encourage them about missions work.  They are praying about become full-time missionaries.

“How good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” Psalm 133:1

While in the Fredericksburg area, we have enjoyed the opportunities to visit several home care groups.  It has been a blessing for us to reconnect with a number of supporters  from our sending church and renew our bonds as brothers and sisters in Christ.  One of the care groups we attend, ended the year with a family picnic.  The day was filled with fellowship, and fun!  Some of the activities we did while at the picnic was  water tubing!  Sam and Michael had so much fun, that we think Sam might have swallowed a fish!

On Sunday, June 13 Sam taught Sunday school, following we had an additional opportunity to share with the congregation at First Christian Church for 20 minutes.  We also received several new supporters and the congregation supported the Kid’s Club ministry with purchasing the Hungarian handmade necklaces and magnets.

During the week, we prepared various details for Calvary Chapel of Esztergom via email for the following VBS, and outreach teams coming from California.  The CA team provided a VBS for the Hungarian children ages 6-16.  The weeks VBS was scheduled to be outside, however the first three days, it was held in the church due to rain, and the last day the group enjoyed the outdoors! We helped coordinate the mens and womens events.   We were so blessed to have helped bridge the gap for the California team and Calvary Chapel of Esztergom ministry.

On Saturday, June 26 we  attended a picnic in Fauquier  County, Virginia, where we  shared with long-time supporters.  Despite the humidity, we laughed as we reminisced down memory lane!  For some it was a longer travel down that lane than others!!  We were blessed as a long time friend, would begin partnering with us.

On Wednesday, June 30 we ended the month by sharing with the congregation at Triangle Baptist Church in Virginia for 45 minutes.  The congregation youth were in attendance, with Megan and Michael having opportunities to share from a youth’s perspective in the missions field.  We ended the evening with asking the youth to come forward, and we prayed over them.  We also made enough sales from the necklaces and magnets to support a month of Kids’ Club ministry activities!
