Winter Greetings from Esztergom, Hungary,
As we keep our eyes on Jesus, the Lord continues a mighty work in Slovakia and
Hungary. We consistently see your prayers on our behalf answered before our eyes.
Having served in the mission field for nearly 17 months, we returned to the U.S. in late
October to visit with extended family members and friends in Virginia and West Virginia.
We brought a short video of “Thanks” for the ministry work in Slovakia, which had been
made by one of the Kids Club youth. It was a tremendous blessing to share some of the
things that the Lord has accomplished during the time we have been overseas.
In West Virginia we had many opportunities to spend time with the body at Good Hope
Tabernacle during a week of their revival meetings. Also in the Lord’s perfect timing we
were able to celebrate our mom’s 81st birthday, Sam’s oldest brother’s 40th wedding
anniversary, and the marriage of Michelle’s brother, Dennis.
After returning to Hungary, we enjoyed a memorable Christmas program at our church
in Esztergom in which Megan and Michael had the opportunity to worship in sign
language. Services followed with the sharing of lunch and fellowship together.
Christmas Day finally arrived bringing the beauty of glistening white snow. Being the
first snowfall of the season, it added to the excitement as we celebrated the birth of our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The new year has already brought many blessings. Twice each week Sam is traveling
to Budapest by train to a language school where an intense beginners course provides the
basic grammar skills needed to further his Hungarian speaking. As our family builds
Hungarian language skills, we’re needing less help from a translator. Until this point,
sharing the love of Jesus through our example has played a major role in our
communication with the Hungarian people.
Kids Club ministry continues to meet every Friday afternoon in Sturovo, Slovakia. It is
a great time of playing games together and Bible teaching. It’s exciting teaching about
great heroes of the Bible such as Daniel, Gideon, and Jonah. Many of the kids have never
been told these stories. On Sundays Sam picks the kids up in Slovakia and brings them to
Esztergom, Hungary for church services. We praise God that He is putting it on these kids’
hearts to come and hear the Gospel being taught! From time to time we have a game day at
the church on Saturdays which encourages additional Christian fe llowship.
As they are drawn to the love of Jesus, we continue sharing God’s love with these kids.
Many of them do not have good influences at home; the few hours we get to spend with
them are planting seeds in their hearts. Join us in praying for the kids, that each one the
Lord brings to our path will continue to seek Him and His will for their lives. As we move
onward, while looking upward, let’s do it on our knees! May God Richly Bless you!
Praising Him,
The McCartneys
