  1. Newsletter: Summer 2008

    August 25, 2008 by Administrator

There is joy in the journey! Again and again God has been so evident in these summer
months. Our joyfulness has been renewed and we just can’t stop talking about the ways He
has continued to answer prayer and bless the work here! We’re very excited to share some
of the things the Lord has been doing in the past three months’ outreaches.
Summer activities began with a Women’s Day event that we hosted in our home for the
ladies of the Esztergom church. Sam and Michael served an elegant lunch and Megan
baby-sat as we ministered to eighteen women. Afternoon activities included a fun and
relaxing time of Make-up Ministry led by Michelle. The Spirit of the Lord filled our home
throughout the day’s events. We could see His presence on the women’s faces as they
gathered to worship, pray, and become refreshed. We’re continually blessed by the
memories of that day as God demonstrated His answers to even the most specific requests.
The June church conference, held in our home, was a wonderful time of fellowship,
praise & worship, and teaching. Nearly 50 people attended, some of whom were not yet
believers. Praise God, one more name was added to the Book of Life by day’s end. A
young woman, struggling to overcome a hard past, prayed to receive Jesus. We’re staying
in contact with her, and rejoice that she attended church recently. Please join us in praying
for this new sister as she continues to deal with issues. Praise Jesus she is no longer alone!
There are so many praises for VBS, it’s hard to know where to begin! Although local
weather forecasts predicted storms and heavy rain for most of the week, not a drop came
down from 6 to 9 o ’clock every evening. God held back the rain, allowing outdoor events
to go on as planned. What a great opportunity for the children to join us in bringing our
concerns to the Father and see the power of prayer first-hand.
More big VBS praises occurred throughout the week as various children decided they
wanted Jesus in their lives. We witnessed a precious moment when two girls, Heni and
Viki, accepted Christ, then opened their new Bibles and began reading. Other children
joined them, and they all sat together reading from the Word. A few days later Heni and
Viki expressed their desire to be able to come back to VBS and stay past their curfew.
Their group leader encouraged them to pray about it. Despite their doubts that it would
change their parents’ minds, the girls prayed. Their parents gave them permission to stay,
and the girls praised God as they experienced the power of prayer in a very personal way.
On reflection of the VBS, we continue to be amazed at all the things that came from that
week. In addition to the aforementioned, we connected with some of the older kids and
families of the participants, and look forward to seeing where the Lord will lead these new
relationships. The willingness of members from the Esztergom church to get involved and
open their hearts to the children we were ministering to was another great blessing and
encouragement for us. Many of them had opportunities to share their testimonies.
The summer events reminded us that we serve a MIGHTY GOD Who is able to do
more than we can imagine or think! Press on in Jesus, and rememb er He is the author and
    perfecter of our faith!
    Praising Him,
    The McCartneys
