When the Spirit Whispers

Regularly, and sometimes frequently, we find ourselves sharing things that our Lord has been speaking to us or impressing on our hearts, only to hear other people sharing the same thing or we hear it in a teaching or Sunday message. Initially I think that it was a word that the Lord was only speaking to me, only to discover that that the Spirit was whispering and other people were listening too. Or He is reinforcing a point that we might not take as immediately significant. (Genesis 41:25)

It’s always reassuring when the Lord does this. It wasn’t just some voice I was hearing or a notion I got because of some emotional experience. The Spirit is speaking. Some things are just for us as individuals. But He has many things that He wants to share with all of us as a family.

For people who struggle with not knowing what or how to talk to our Father in heaven, the most important part of prayer isn’t talking, but listening. The more time you just simply turn your attention to Jesus, especially in the middle of your busy day (you don’t have to come to a complete stop to give Him your attention… although that’s important too) you will hear from Him. How you hear from Him is up to Him.

After working with kids who aren’t able to verbally speak we have learned to “listen” to the other ways that they communicate. Our Father has a multitude of ways to communicate with us. Listen up! Dad has something to say.

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left.

Isaiah 30:21
