Greetings from Mexico,
In the past few months, marriage and the definition of marriage has been in the news a lot. And most of this conversation has been unfortunate; since the words of Jesus found in the Bible make this matter of marriage crystal clear. Jesus described marriage this way in the Gospel of Mark Chapter 10, verses 6 to 8:“ 6from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female. 7For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,8and the two shall become one flesh…”
In this update, I wanted to feature marriage and the work that our ministry has been doing to build up and strengthen the marriages in our church and city. Most recently, last month we hosted our annual Marriage Conference Weekend. We were honored to have with us Pastor David Guzik and his wife Inga Lill (from CCSanta Barbara) as our featured speakers.
We had 65 couples turn out for this edifying and fun filled weekend. The conference began with a session that was open to the entire church on forgiveness in relationships. It was wonderful to see God touch hearts and lives as many people came up for prayer after the service.
Saturday, the event moved to a giant palapa! (A large open thatched roof structure on the beach.) We were blessed with a series of messages on marriage taken out of Ephesians Chapter 5. Each one of the couples were blessed with a special date night dinner and delicious cuisine served throughout the conference. On the fun side of things, the silly couples Olympic games and the couples outdoor kissing booth added much laughter to the festivities. Praise God that many marriages experienced growth and healing that weekend.
On the church side of things, we love marriage. And that’s a good thing, because we have a lot of them. So far this year we have had over 10 weddings in the church, and as I am writing this update, I just finished two wonderful weddings, and I have a couple more planned for next month.
To help couples prepare for marriage, we offer pre-marital counseling, as well as free marriage counseling for those married couples that are struggling. During the week we offer a weekly marriage Bible study, and I also teach a yearly marriage and family Bible study series open to the entire church. Our church seems to be bursting at the seams with weddings and new babies being born nearly every week.
I wanted to share with you one special marriage story from our church. Eddy visited our church for the first time a few years ago with the intention of stabbing one of his “enemies” that attended our church. Thankfully, Eddy’s plans didn’t come to fruition because God intervened. That day at the church, Eddy heard the Gospel, professed in Jesus and was later baptized. Eventually, Eddy starting bringing his “Mujer” (Woman) along with him to church. We later found out that this kind lady named Jeanette was the mother of Eddy’s three young children.
Unfortunately, this couple had never legally married and had suffered through many years of abuse and despair. As God began to speak to their hearts, they decided to do things God’s way. They separated for a time, received pre-marital counseling at the church, and Eddy proposed to Jeanette right there in our church sanctuary.I was honored to officiate their beautiful wedding just a few months ago. Eddy and Jeanette are just one of the many marriages that have been built up and strengthened by the Lord here in Rosarito!
Finally, as our ministry partners, we feel burdened to share a need with you. With the difficulty in the economy, we have recently lost several of our monthly financial supporters. We tell you this simply to ask you to pray for us that God will continue to provide for our family’s needs here on the mission fields of Mexico. After being on the mission field for 11 years, we are in need of adding some new ministry partners. So if you know anyone that might be interested in partnering with us in this mission work, please feel free to pass this newsletter on to them and our contact info as well. As always, 100% of all financial support for our family is tax deductible. We love you and are very thankful for your love, prayers, and support.
Con mucho amor de Mexico,(with much love from Mexico)
