Unless They Are Sent

God is doing amazing things in the midst of Saving Grace World Missions! From Bible colleges opening up in South Asia, to churches being planted in unreached places, I am completely humbled to be in the middle of God’s work amongst the nations! During my most recent trip to Oaxaca,  the Lord impressed Romans 10:14-15 on my heart and strongly highlighted the phrase, “unless they are sent.”

“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!”-Romans 10:14-15

As seen all throughout the Bible, every believer should have the same heart of God in desiring to see unreached nations call upon Jesus for salvation. However, many people would not hear about Him if there were not obedient servants/missionaries who answered the call to preach and be sent. The longer I serve with the SGWM team, the more I realize what an honor it is to be part of an organization that exists for that very purpose.

Many practical things go into getting a missionary to the field and successfully sending them. Sometimes this means doing tasks in our SGWM office to assist our missionaries, and other times I get to go international and come alongside the missionary to encourage them in their callings! This past month, I was able to join one of our SGWM missionary family’s on their church planting vision tour!

Oaxaca Vision Tour…

You might recognize some of the faces in the pictures above from my previous posts! Pastor Jon and his wife Allison have decided to answer the Lord’s call to step out of their comfort zones and plant a Calvary Chapel church in Oaxaca City, Mexico! For most of this year, they have been in full-time church planting training through Calvary Chapel Rosarito, which is pastored by another one of our SGWM missionary’s, Pastor Mike Vincent. Jon and Allison have been teaching the Word regularly and have been actively involved in serving at CC Rosarito. It was during this past year that the Lord continually confirmed their calling to plant a church in this specific location.

Overlooking Oaxaca City

Located in southern Mexico, Oaxaca City is surrounded by breathtaking mountains, filled with rich culture, and vibrant colors! Although the location is absolutely beautiful, there is a huge thing lacking; the truth of the Gospel.

There is a lack of true, verse by verse Bible teaching and the spread of the Gospel in this city. With over 250,000 people living there, many are enslaved to religion, attempting to earn their way to Heaven because they have not yet heard the Good News that Jesus already did it all. There are also several unreached people groups scattered across the mountains who speak dialects completely different from Spanish. The Brechtel’s have a strong desire to raise up nationals who can speak these difficult dialects and send them out amongst the unreached villages.

The primary purpose of our trip was to pray over the Brechtel family’s calling, seek where the Lord would have them move, and get a more practical idea of what this will look like. Throughout the trip, we had intentional times of prayer and seeking the Lord, we met with other missionaries, and looked at rentals for the Brechtel family. Of course, there were also many times of fun, laughter, and tasting the local cuisine..which includes Oaxaca’s world-famous chapulines (grasshoppers)!

We were blessed to visit the ancient ruins of Monte Albán!

The brave souls who decided to eat grasshoppers…myself included!

A team from CC Santa Barbara and CC Rosarito joined us!

At the beginning of 2019, “Team Oaxaca” will be moving from Rosarito to Oaxaca City. This will not only include the Brechtel family but their translator, Armando as well as a couple who already lives there. Together, they will plant a church where the Word of God will be regularly taught and the Gospel will be preached!

I cannot wait to see all that God is going to do with the Brechtel family!

Allison is one of the funniest people I know!

I feel so privileged to not only befriend our amazing missionaries but to also be part of the team that sends them out!

Prayer Requests

  • Please pray for the Brechtel family as they prepare to officially move to Oaxaca city at the beginning of 2019!
  • Pray that the SGWM team and I would continue to get the Lord’s vision for serving our missionaries!
  • Pray that I would be able to step into the more ‘intimidating’ things the Lord is calling me to do.
  • Pray that God would have His way in the areas of my life that He wants to grow!

For His Name’s Sake!
