The Little Boy

Greetings from Mexico,

littleboy7In this update we wanted to share with you some good news about one of the strangest events that have happened to our family in our nearly 13 years of living here in Mexico! Almost 4 years ago, we saw a local advertisement asking for Americans to serve as extras in a feature film called “Little Boy” that was going to be filmed at Fox Studios in Southern Rosarito. On a whim, our family went to the auditions and to our surprise, Grace, Daniel and Sarah were all hired as movie extras! (Mike tried out too, but he didn’t have the right stuff and he was not hired.)

littleboy2The next 2 months were full of work and fun as our family’s homeschool schedule was turned upside down as we stepped into this great opportunity! We are happy to announce that after 3 long years of waiting, “Little Boy” will finally be coming to a theater near you with it’s grand openings set for April 24th! To best explain the plot of this faith building, family friendly film, I will leave it up to the professionals and quote the official press release that describes the film.

LITTLE BOY is a powerful and moving film about a little boy who is willing to do whatever it takes to bring his dad home from World War II alive. The heartwarming story will capture your heart and lift your spirits as it reveals the indescribable love a little boy has for his father and the love a father haslittleboy6 for his son.

Set in the 1940s, LITTLE BOY is an instant cinematic classic that captures the wonder of life through the eyes of a 7- year-old little boy. Written and directed by Smithsonian Institute Award winning director Alejandro Monteverde, LITTLE BOY highlights themes of faith, hope and love in the face of adversity.

Recently, our family was blessed to attend a pre-release movie showing located at Biola University with some of our friends from the church who also served as extras. Also attending this showing was the film’s director, producer, and the young star of the film. As our family watched the completed film for the first time, we were awestruck as we saw Grace featured prominently in some very important scenes. Daniel and Sarah also appeared in the film along with over 20 more of our missionary friends from church.

Grace, Daniel and Sarah worked on set for many days, and they were treated as professional actors, not untrained extras! In the film, Grace appears in the class picture scene right next to the star (little boy) and also in the movie theater scene. Keep your eye out for little Daniel as he appears as one of the bullies chasing and harassing the main character (little boy) throughout the film. Finally, Sarah got to get all dressed up in fashionable clothing as she appeared as both a soldier’s mother and a townsperson.

We are very proud to have had the opportunity to be a part of this faith building film, and we want to encourage you to attend this movie on it’s opening weekend. (April 24th, and please bring your family and friends with you.) And as you enjoy the film, keep your eye out for our family members which will be popping up on the big screen from time to tilittleboy3me!

Finally, I can’t finish up a letter without once again thanking you for partnering with our family and ministry. It is through your prayers that we are strengthened spiritually, and it is through your financial partnership that God provides for our needs. We are honored to serve as your missionaries.

Con mucho amor de Mexico, (with much love from Mexico)

Mike, Sarah, Grace, and Daniel
