We arrived safely in here in early March. A few days after our arrival, we were joined by a team from Saving Grace that came to serve with us for 10 days. Together we hosted a Pastors & Wives Conference, Marriage Retreat and were able to do outreach at a local school.
During the two day Pastors & Wives conference, we were able to teach through the book of James and remind the leaders to “be doers of the word, and not hearers only” James 1:22. Everyone was challenged by the Word and all seemed eager to put into practice the truth they had learned. As we sent them back to their villages, we did not send them empty handed. Through generous donations provided through Promise Child, we were able to purchase study bibles, commentaries and Proclaimers (solar powered audio bibles in their native language) to give to the Pastors who are teaching at churches, bibles studies and schools throughout remote villages of the mountains. Equipping Nationals to Plant Churches
When B. first came here, the Lord gave him a vision to train up nationals to reach their own people knowing that they will go further than we could ever go and reach more people than we could ever reach with the Gospel. We are seeing that vision come to fruition in the lives of many of the students that are attending the School of Ministry. At the conclusion of the course last spring, M.D. began hosting a Sunday afternoon church service in the town where he lives and teaching through the bible verse by verse. In addition to serving as the In-Country Director for Promise Child, he has a vision to plant a church and desires to raise up other church planters. There are now 25 adults and 15 children that attend on a weekly basis. Currently Bond is teaching through the book of Revelations and we have 20+ young men and women who are attending the School of Ministry every weekday. (Picture: School of Ministry ~ Spring 2013)
Investing In Young Lives
Last year, I spent a great deal of time meeting with children one on one, visiting their schools, homes and families. This year, in addition to meeting and praying with each of the Promise Children, my heart has been stirred to also teach and pour into their lives on a consistent basis. An opportunity opened up on Sunday afternoons and I have had a blast teaching about Palm Sunday and celebrating the Resurrection together with the children. It has been such a sweet time to share bible stories, do crafts (something they never get to do), and share songs with the 12 – 15 kids that have been coming each week. Each week, we travel to a village and while I meet with each of the Promise Children, Bond does bible training with the teachers at the school. As Bond was teaching creation through the book of Genesis, a man named Ajay walked up to where they were meeting. Bond invited him to join the lesson and he gladly sat down and began listening. At the conclusion, Bond shared with Ajay that it was not a coincidence that he visited the school on that very day at that specific time. After he heard the Gospel, he fell to his knees and M. (our ministry partner) was able to pray with him. (Picture right: Bond Teaching School Staff. Picture Left: M. Praying With Ajay)
We would like to request prayer:
- For the long term work to be established here as we desire to see a church planted in this city and for the School of Ministry to continue after we leave.
- On April 13th we will be hosting a Promise Child High School Youth Conference. Please pray for that the youth would be strengthened in the Word.
- We will be traveling to China in late April to spend two weeks teaching there. Please pray that we will have time to properly prepare and for continued health as the teaching schedule will be intense.
- Heather’s mom (Janice) is recovering at home, but is still experiencing tremendous pain from a cracked hip and other health issues.
