Dear Friends and Family,

This month we have seen the beginning of a new Women’s study and the completion of this seasons soccer out reaches.esther

Every Tuesday we host a women’s Bible study at our home.  If every lady shows up we are about 22. The ladies who come are from varied nationalities and backgrounds. We represent 5 different countries and 4 different churches. A couple of the ladies have been attending this study since I started it when I moved to Kampala 11 years ago.  Our newest members are family members of American embassy workers.

Every Tuesday we host a women’s Bible study at our home.

womens-study-2For each study we do the ladies do homework which we discuss at the beginning of each new lesson. The homework helps the ladies to stay in the Word throughout the week as well as to make the teachings personal. Discussion helps to keep us accountable with what we are learning as well as to encourage one another and testify to what the Lord is doing in our lives. What we study varies. Sometimes I am teaching verse by verse through a book or portion of scripture like the Sermon on the Mount and other times we go through a study book or video. The study we just started is Esther. It is a video series with an accompanying workbook.

…when we are with other believers we are with family.

One of the best parts of having a women’s study at home is that besides being in the word with other women we have great fellowship and are able to pray for one another about whatever circumstances we are going through. Recently, we had a family staying with us who are moving to S. Sudan. Right after they arrived fighting broke out and they were praying about what they should do since they have small children. While they were staying with us the mom was able to attend our study. She shared her testimony of how God called them to S. Sudan. It was a great encouragement as well as a bit convicting for the women to hear how this family was willing to move with their children and leave their home and friends behind to obey the call of the Lord on their lives. It was a testimony of faith and trust in the Lord. After receiving what she had to share with her we all gathered around to pray for her and her family as they made the decision to go into S. Sudan. I love the body of Christ and that no matter how far we may be from our earthly homes when we are with other believers we are with family.

…we have been using sports as an outreach…

For the past year we have been using sports as an outreach to the community around us as well as to local schools. Our church has been working together with the men from the market to put together a soccer team. This team has been competing against other local market teams. While soccer is the most popular sport in Uganda and the men enjoy playing, they have also been using it to evangelize and to testify of how the Lord has saved them and is working in their lives. Each week at church we have at least one or two men who come and testify that they are from the market and have come to church because one of our men inviting them. Some receive Christ and continue to come while others may not but we see the fruit of the seeds being planted through this sports ministry and the market ministry.

The team was awarded a cow!

Our biggest testimony / victory took place during the playoffs. Our team took firsoccer-cowst place! The team was given a trophy by the mayor of our division was also awarded a cow! Our team has been blessed with talent to play soccer but I believe they also had the favor of the Lord upon them. We pray this victory will cause the other teams as well as those who have heard the gospel through out the season to turn to Christ. When we started the church God spoke to us to arise and shine, to be a light in the darkness. By this victory we want to shine His light and cause Him to be glorified. The Sunday following the match the team all came to church. The coach came forward and gave the trophy to Brian for the church saying they wanted God to have all the honor.

Thank you for praying for our family and for the ministry in Uganda.

In Him,
