December – Prayer Requests

The Most Powerful Thing You Can Do For a Missionary
train4missions.com
It is often cliché to say, “the best thing you can do for a missionary is to pray.” This is usually the sentence missionaries put in their update letters right before they ask for financial support. But that does not negate the truth of the comment. Prayer is the battleground where you can wage a good warfare on behalf of your missionary. Remember what Paul said, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12 NKJV). We often forget that the ministry is not only a physical task but a spiritual affair. The battle is won or lost in prayer. Read the full article.…»

Marc & Linda McSweeny – Frankfurt, Germany

Greetings from Frankfurt! Things are getting chilly and dark, which means Christmas is around the corner.

Prayer Requests:
1. Please continue to pray for my health. I have migraines and/or stress headaches several times a week. I am still in the middle of testing to see if there are other factors in play (other than stress). Pray for strength and healing.

2. My second prayer request is related to the first: I will need a break of some sort, for health reasons and also because I am planning a visit to the States next year. The difficulty is not with my work since the doctors can always give some time off for rest or treatment. The critical area is the church. I will need either someone to take over the church for 1-2 months, or many guest speakers and worship leaders will have to scheduled. Please pray for wisdom and God’s provision.

3. The local Christmas market is on December 17th and the church has a stand there. We will be selling Quesadillas & hand-made items, and distributing flyers. Linda will also be singing on stage with a small band. This is our main outreach for the year and the time of year is stressful for everyone. Please pray for the organization of the event, and for everything to go smoothly. Pray also for more contact with the locals, and opportunities for the Gospel to be shared.

Thanks for all your prayers and support!

His name is Chhabilal.  We would beg you to pray for him.  He is the only believer in his family.  His parents have disowned him, and he lives

Mike and Erin Thiemann – California, USA

Prayer Requests:
1. Over the past month, I have been able to dedicate a lot of time to writing. I have developed a writing calendar for my weekly mission blog posts, and God has provided volunteers to help with editing and graphics.

2. Please pray that God would increase my writing skills, vision, clarity and that God would allow these articles to go viral and spread a passion for His glory and strengthen the Body of Christ in missions.

3. Please pray for vision and direction as I write each chapter on the book I am putting together. This book will be a practical guide to help missionaries get from “I’m called” to thriving on the mission field.

4. This home school year is going by fast. Erin and the kids are always working hard and plugging away at school work. Please pray for wisdom and vision for Erin as she homeschools our three kids every day. Also, pray for our kids that they would fall in love with learning.

5. Allow me to share a praise report. My son Malachi loves listening to the Bible through the YouVersion Bible App and in the past three months, he has listened to Genesis through John. He also retains what he hears. He’s been asking me a ton of questions, and I have loved this special time of discipleship. I even issued a challenge to him for next year, that whoever reads through the Bible more wins a $50 Amazon card. I’m looking forward to that challenge on many levels.

6. Lastly, please pray for Erin’s photography business as it is steadily growing. Pray for more clients and that the Lord would use her not just to bring in extra income but as a ministry opportunity. She’s also been able to use her photography business to raise money for missions.

Thank you and God Bless,
Mike, Erin, Malachi, Kyla and Alaina – Email: erinthiemann@sgwm.com    mike@sgwm.com   Blog: http://sgwm.com/thiemann/

Brad and Melissa Miller – Amazon Jungle, Brazil

Psalm 122:1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

I for one, cannot wait for that day when our feet shall stand in the gates of Jerusalem!  But until that glorious day arrives, please pray with us for these few things.

Prayer Requests:
1. Please pray for the Apurina people.  Specifically for Oscar and Analucia, Valdicis, Nilza, and Guerlermi and Elsimara.  Pray that they would continue to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and pray for them in the way the Spirit leads you.

2. For the Medical Outreach we are planning for January 27th, 2018.  We are involving our local church with a sister church, evangelists, children’s ministry, lunch, devotionals, and more, to work alongside of the many doctors, dentists, beauticians, and a pharmacy.  All people involved are not only professionals in the community, but also Christians with the common goal of seeing Christ work through them to edify and lift people up closer to our Lord.

3. For our family.  We seem to have a few sicknesses passing around.  Flu, torn muscle, pulled tooth, and other things.  Please pray for Melissa and myself, Josiah, Veronica, Benjamin who recently let a little barbell fall on his head and tear his skin open, Junior and his wife Ashley and child Charlotte, and Andrea who just started a new job.

God bless you and keep you, may He make his face to shine upon you,

Jenna Pepin – Culiacán, Mexico

Prayer Requests:
1. Thank you for your continued prayers for my health.  In November, I was given a very unwanted diagnosis, but it appears that God is taking care of things in His own divine way.  Tests this month will confirm that theory.

2. There are also many ministry opportunities this month.  Please pray for:

3. Our ministry in La Invasion.  We will throwing a huge Christmas party on December 9, where we will be presenting the Gospel to as many as 50 children and their families.  Thanks to a generous donor, we will also be providing Bibles for nearly every family that attends.  Pray that God’s Word will not return void, but produce  much fruit in their lives.

4. Our ministry in the city dump.  As of now, we have only 4 people committed to this ministry, and we need a minimum of 8 to make it work.  Pray that God will raise up the laborers needed to harvest this ripe field.

5. Our church’s 2nd anniversary celebration.  We have guest speakers and worship teams coming from Rosarito to help us celebrate.  There will be a huge party on Sunday (which I will be speaking at) as well as special outreach events for men and youth/singles.  Pray that these events are well-attended and that many come to know Christ.

6. Our vacation.  Pray for Sammy and I as we travel during the holiday season.  We will be travelling on the 13th and 15th of December and on the 9th and 12th of January.  During our “vacation,” I will be speaking at a minimum of two events, sharing my testimony in 2 different Celebrate Recovery groups, and looking for additional financial partners.  May God’s will be done in all of these areas!

God bless you all and your families.  May you have a very Merry Christmas and blessed New Year!

Please Pray
1. Our family as we adjust to a new lifestyle of pouring ourselves out in ministry in a new way.

2. Our finances. We are raising support to be able to do this ministry full-time and be a blessing to SGWM. Please pray that the Lord would provide for our financial needs through supporters who want to partner with us in Kingdom work.

John and Natalia Gunderson – Cajamarca, Peru

Please Pray:
1. For Out son Alejandro: He is not doing well in his health. He has anemia and feels very tired. Meat, fish and other regular fruit we used to eat are ( blueberries, strawberries, broccoli Zucchini, cantaloupe  ) to expensive here so we mostly eat chicken and I make regular Peruvian food like lentils, quinoa, rice, pasta, potatoes, etc…But Alejandro had a hard time getting used to the fruit and veggies here. Anyhow, I was trying to make homemade mac and cheese every week because milk and local cheese is affordable and pasta is really cheap but I wasn’t thinking in the lack of iron and some vitamins ( I didn’t notice that the gummy vitamins I brought from the states didn’t have some vitamins B). So I am making him liver twice a week (he doesn’t like it but he is eating it for his health ) and different shakes with fruit, vegetables and honey. Please pray he recovers quickly. Also his best friend is moving to Chile very soon. Please pray for another good friend here for Alejandro. Pray for us to be the parents he needs, to become a fine young man for the Lord.

2. For our little Emily: for the past 4 months she has a hard time going potty. It can be 3-4 days without going. She eats prunes, raises, fruit, everyday but it doesn’t make any difference. We have to put liquid glycerin to make her poop every 3 days. But she is clearly in pain. I ran out of those last week and started to use the solid glycerin suppository that they have here but it’s not really working. Please pray that she goes potty normal like she used to before without any suppository or medicines.

3. For John: please pray for wisdom and to be more patience and loving with me. I know is hard to deal with a wife going through menopause.

4. For Natalia: I started an early menopause this year. It happened right after I lost the baby. So my body didn’t have time to recover from pregnancy, breast feeding and after miscarriage it went directly to menopause.  It’s really hard to feel all these changes in my body. Sometimes it’s hard to breathe, sometimes I am extremely hot and it’s freezing for everyone else. Sometimes I am just extremely tired. And headaches are almost every day. I can even feel pain in my bones and especially my teeth! It’s like I am feeling that my body is slowly dying. The worst part is that there are some days that I am just in a bad mood for no reason and I am aware of that so I pray to God for help.  That I am not so cranky with my husband and kids but some days I am just not as godly as I should be. It’s especially hard when they don’t behave as they should or my husband is not as loving as he usually is. Thanks to the Lord it’s not often but I wish I didn’t have to fight with this body. So I need prayers for all this.

5. And the last one: For our immigration status: We are going to the states shortly because we need to ask for a special permit from immigration for me and Alejandro. We are not citizens yet, only residence. And with all the changes that are going in immigration this past year we are in the need to come back home every 6 months and that could be costly. So if we get that Permit we can be out of the country for 2 years with no problem. Also John needs to work on his Peruvian residence. We traveled a few months ago to another city to start it but they wanted the documents we showed to be from that very same month, no older than that. So we couldn’t start the process. Because the paperwork and documents we need have to be done in Lima. We are planning to start the whole process for John’s immigration status as soon as we come back from the states because we will be in Lima.

Thank you so much for your time praying for us. Thank you for helping us. We really appreciate it.

May the Lord bless you all!

Love,
John, Natalia, Alejandro and Emily –  Email: nataliagordillo34@gmail.com Blog: http://sgwm.com/gunderson

Mike and Erin Thiemann –  California

Please Pray:
1. Please pray as I shift into a role where I am focused on writing. I will be producing a weekly Mission blog post specifically for training/encouraging missionaries, senders, and their sending churches. Also, there are two books that I am writing. The first is a general guide to becoming a missionary and the second book I will share more about later. Along with that, I am creating an online training school for missions. First, this will be to benefit out SGWM missionaries, and once we further develop it, we will make it accessible to the public.

2. Please pray for Erin as she home schools our three kids and runs her own small business. Also, please pray for her photography business as it is steadily growing. Pray for more clients and that the Lord would use her in this not to merely bring in extra income but as a ministry opportunity. She will be hosting a few fundraisers this Holiday season to raise funds for various missions and outreach programs both at SGWM and at a few local churches in our community. Pray that the Lord brings in hundreds of people and that the fundraisers are a huge success. We’ll post more information when available.

Thank you and God Bless!

Sam and Amy Baby – Southern Asia

Please Pray:
Family
-Please pray for my husband as he oversees the construction of the new bible college in South Asia. Pray he would be filled with all wisdom and faith as he moves forward in very difficult and uncertain circumstances. Much of what our new ministry entails right now requires the Lord to move mountains and be our Shield and Hiding Place through many ongoing obstacles. Please also pray for his health and safety in travels.

-Please pray for my son as he’s walking now and very independent. Pray for his overall health, physical protection and a teachable Spirit. Please pray he would start sleeping through the night, as its very difficult on the whole family.

-Please pray for me as a wife and mother, homemaker and disciple of Christ. Pray I would be the encouragement my husband needs, the steady hand my son needs, faithful to the daily tasks for our family and consistent and passionate in seeking the Lord daily. I often strive in my flesh and fail, which effects our whole family. Praise God for His grace! Also please keep my health in prayer as I have been dealing with extreme fatigue, nausea and dizzy spells.

-Please pray for my husband’s family as his dad left his ministry position of 30+ years in order to join our family in this new work. This transition included moving to a new location, the youngest daughter switching schools just a year before she graduates, another son leaving his job and attending a bible college and now all of our family living together. Please pray for these transitions and for the Lords strength in everyone’s new journey.

Ministry
-Please pray for the continued construction work of our new bible college in South Asia. We are renovating several old buildings and starting a few new building projects. There have been a lot of bumps in the road that temporary set us back or delay us, but God has been so faithful to keep His work moving forward!

-Pray for good relationships with our Hindu and Muslim community.

-Pray for favor and a good rapport with local authorities.

-Pray for unity and clear communication among the many people involved in this project- from the owners and leasers of the land to the construction workers and overseers and into the students and staff when they come. Division and miscommunication are huge obstacles the enemy likes to use in our region.

-Pray for continued clear leading from the Lord and vision with open doors for the paths He would have us walk in. We need to find ways to bless the community in order to open their hearts and ears to us. Our vision is to train up nationals, but we also want to reach those on our doorstep.

Thank you all for your prayers and support as we follow the Lord and seek to do His will.

The Lord Bless You as you seek Him!

Jena Pepin – Culiacán, Mexico

Thank you so much for your faithfulness in prayer!  After a more than 2 month ordeal, Sammy has finally been declared healthy and has had no return of fevers or symptoms.  And with the correct treatments, my health is just about back to normal as well.  Our missions conference went very well, as did the women’s conference I spoke at.

November is going to be busy!

Please Pray:
1. Our new ministry in the city dump.  We will be having lessons for adults and children of all ages, as well as a meal… for about 250 people!  For the next two months, we will be teaming up with another church, but starting in January, we will be independent of them.  Pray for provision of the staff and resources we will need, as well as for those being ministered to.

2. The breakfast club in La Invasion.  This ministry is also growing and soon will be converting into a church-like service on Sundays.  Pray for all who will be involved in this ministry and that with the change in day and format, we will see many more families attending.

3. Pray for the follow-up from our women’s conference.  We had about 20 first-time visitors that need to be followed-up with, many of whom are in the midst of major storms in their lives (the reason for which they attended an event entitled Peace in the Storm).  May God continue to work in their lives and bring them the peace they so desperately seek.

4. Finally, with Christmas “just around the corner,” we will be starting a new evangelism/invitation campaign with flyers announcing all of our holiday activities.  Pray that many unsaved people will be reached as a result of these flyers.

Thank you and God bless you!

Please Pray with my family and I over these things.  Thank you.

Jenna Pepin – Culiacán, Mexico

After a “break” in September, ministry is coming at us full force this month. Please pray for the following events and needs:
1. Saturday, October 7, we have a new “open enrollment” for our missions ministry where we will summarize all of our activity up to now and cast the vision for new people to join us.

2. Today, we embarked on a new mission – evangelizing and helping the people who live in and around the city dump. We will be dealing with extreme poverty and young children already involved in substance abuse and crime. They are very excited to receive us and promised us a large crowd. We hope to begin next week. Pray for our safety and the success of the ministry.

3. On October 14, I will be attending a Celebrate Recovery conference in Rosarito. Please pray for our safe travels and for the conference – that many lives will be changed forever as a result of the message.

4. This month, my home church in Ohio will be making their official decision about supporting me financially. Pray that God’s will be done.

5. On October 28, I will be speaking at our monthly women’s meeting. Pray for a large audience of women that need to find healing and meaning in Christ. I will be preaching from 2 Corinthians 1 – Finding God’s purpose and plan in our suffering.

May God continue to bless you as you serve us with your prayers!

WOW!  It was an awesome week

Please Pray:
This week, I ask you to pray for Sammy’s and my health.  This has been an ongoing battle for the past month now.  After 3 weeks without a diagnosis, we have now been told that it was/is food poisoning, but even after starting new treatments, Sammy continues to have fevers, headaches, and stomachaches, and mine have gotten worse.  Both of us are dealing with other complications as well.  This has been a long and hard battle, and it isn’t over yet.  As a result, I will be taking a break for a few weeks.  Pray that God gives wisdom to our doctors and/or that He chooses to divinely heal us!

During my break, please pray for our mission’s ministry.  We will be taking on a prayer focus, trying to unify our team and strengthen ourselves for the next wave of activities in October.

-We praise God that the Urdu Translation of Pastor David Guzik’s Bible Commentary has started, we have translated the Letter of Jude and now we are working on Gospel of John.

-We praise that Calvary Foundation Youth Fellowship has started, we are having fellowship every Monday evening, and we are taking them through different Bible books and characters every week in order to build a foundation for proper Bible study.

-We praise that the group of Brick Makers is also growing, and on the weekly basis they are arranging a large fellowship in which they invite more brick makers from different Brick Kilns.

Please Pray:
Please pray for the protection of our family, team and congregation while we praise God and proclaim His name and word here.

Please pray for the need of a computer for brother Joseph, we can get one used computer for $170, Joseph is a great helper of mine, he had been using one desktop computer for 7 years and that computer is not working anymore.

We need to purchase 6 Plastic chairs, one table and some local carpets for the Brick Makers. They requested for this need, as there is problem for people to sit during the meetings, we need at least $100 for this need.

Our car needs new tires, last time we changed them 3 and half years before, now they need to be replaced for safe traveling. Reasonable 4 tires are for $400, and we need $70 for some general repairing of the car.

One more need we have is a printer for our office, we need to print notes and many other things on weekly basis, our old computer is not usable. A reasonable printer is for $170. Please pray for the provision of this need.

Please pray for the growth of our Church in the fear and love of God and pray for people to be strong in their faith.

Thank You very much, we love you and pray for you!

God bless you,

Jenna Pepin  – Culiacán, Mexico

-Praising God that one of my friends’ daughters was recovered yesterday! Thank you for your prayers

-A big thanks for continuing to lift Sammy and I up in prayer each week. This week we have lots of requests.

Please Pray:
1. Sammy is still trying to recover from a case of dengue fever he picked up during our trip to Mazatlan.  Our next follow-up appointment is this Thursday.

2. I have also been battling with various health-related issues and also have appointments this Thursday and next.

3. This weekend we will be receiving a group of missionaries from Rosarito.  Pray that we will be able to receive them well and that their time here will be fruitful and beneficial to all.  Pray that neither my nor Sammy’s health will impede our working with them, and pray that much ministry will be accomplished.  They will be doing lots of evangelistic work in our community, in surrounding communities, and with the children of La Invasion.  Pray for good weather, as we are officially in the rainy season here and most of our events will be outdoors.  They will also be working to encourage our missions ministry and build a new classroom for our children’s ministry.

4. Please continue to pray for my two friends, who have still not recovered their children.

5. Please continue to pray for my financial situation and the decisions that need to be made before the end of this month.

Thank you!  May God bless you all as you continue to bless us with your prayers.

Pankaj and Tonielle Sarkar – Kathmandu, Nepal

Some of you already heard that before we came to the States on furlough, in April, Tonielle’s business visa (aka – long term visa) was denied. The only reason it was denied was because we had “christian activity” happening on campus. The doors are slowly closing for religious freedom, but at this point, Nepal is still a country where you are free to practice any religion – basically, it is not even legal that they are denying the visa.

We are working with our lawyer to try to get the visa reinstated, but it is taking a very long time and costing a lot of money that we have not budgeted for. At this point, the government is saying they need to do an “in-depth investigation” into the business.

Tonielle and Levi are currently able to stay in the country with a tourist visa but are only allowed to remain on a tourist visa for up to 5 months per year. They have already been in-country for a little over 2 months, which means, if the business visa is not granted soon, we only have about 2.5 months until we will have to find another way to remain in Nepal.

We know and trust that God is in control and we am grateful that this is the only form of persecution that we have to deal with right now, but we would still like to ask for you to be praying for this process. If for some reason the visa is denied, we are trying to think of other ideas on how we can stay in the country but – obviously – it would be awesome if this can just resolve and the original visa will be reissued.

Thank you for your prayers! Feel free to share this with other believers and prayer chains as well, but please do not post on social media.

In Him,
Pankaj, Tonielle and Levi – Email: sarkar@sgwm.com Blog: http://sgwm.com/sarkar/

SGWM Weekly Prayer Requests 08/02/17-08/08/17

Bond and Heather Gaona – Uganda– Our Current Location

Please Pray:
1. Bond is teaching Daniel, Revelation and the Work of the Holy Spirit. Aaron is teaching the book of John. We have approximately 40 students from 10 different Calvary Chapels (3 of which are in the Sudaneese Refugee camp). Pray that the Holy Spirit would reveal the truth of God’s Word to each of the pastors and leaders that are attending. Those attending from the Refugee Camp have said that they are so grateful for the opportunity to come and study God’s Word. They had only been eating once a day and it was not enough. Now they are being fed three times a day and being fed spiritually.

2. Pray for Heather as she daily meets with the Promise Children and their families. Pray for discernment, insight, wisdom and a sensitivity as she meets with, shares and prays for children each day.

3. Pray for continued health for all of us. Pray that Breanna would not get malaria.

4. Pray for those living in the Sudan Refugee Camp as there are over 200,000 people many without enough food. We have 3 churches that have been planted. Those pastors come for training during the week and go home on the weekends. Pray for the many more churches that we desire to see planted and for faithful men and women to minister in the camp.

Thank you for for praying for us!

Praise
-Our V.B.S. was fantastic last week! 5 days from 1:00-5:00 about 115 kids per day, many gave their hearts to Jesus and it was a fabulous week. Thanks for your prayers! God is good and we give him all the glory and praise.

Please Pray:
1. For my health-specifically for constant pain in my feet due to planters fasciitis and for migraines that are hitting more often. I will first attend a pain management class and then see a neurologist this month, prayerfully they will figure something out to help with these!

2. For my mom who had a biopsy done on a piece of skin on her nose, that it isn’t anything serious.

3. For a ministry that I feel led to start in reaching out to the singles in our church, that the Lord would open the doors if it is part of His plan.

4. For continued provisions for my personal needs and for the needs of this church.

Jenna Pepin  – Culiacán, Mexico

Praise and Thank You!
-Thank you to everyone who prayed for our mission trip to Mazatlan. “Despertar Mazatlan” was a HUGE success – over 800 people were treated by our doctors and medical personnel and around 3,000 people were saved! Our youth and women’s events here in Culiacan also went well, and my toe seems to be almost back to normal. PRAISE GOD for answered prayers!!!

Please Pray:
1. Please pray for the outreach event and clothing distribution we will be having this Saturday in La Invasion. We are hoping many new people will come out and make contact with us so we ca begin to grow that ministry.

2. Also, pray for the new contacts I made personally in Mazatlan. If God wills, we will be having a “Despertar Culiacan” in the not-too-distant future (maybe next year?) as well as a partnership with YWAM to embark on a city-wide Bible distribution project.

3. On a personal note, continue to pray for my finances and the decisions I will be making. You can also pray for two friends of mine, April and Sandra, who each have a daughter missing – one was kidnapped and the other has apparently disappeared into the drug scene.

4. As always, thank you for your prayers! As James 5:16 tells us, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much”… and we have MUCH need here in Culiacan!

Thank you!  May God continue to bless you as you cover us with your prayers.

Nadeem and Farah Massey – Pakistan

Praise
-We praise God that we were able to plant 2nd. Calvary Chapel in an area outside of our town. There are 33 Christian families who really love the word of God, we are having Proper Sunday Services with them.

1. Please pray for the protection of our family, team and congregation while we praise God and proclaim His name and word here.

2. Please pray for the need of a computer for brother Joseph, we can get one used computer for $170, Joseph is a great helper of mine, he had been using one desktop computer for 7 years and that computer is not working anymore.

3. We need to purchase 6 Plastic chairs, one table and some local carpets for the Brick Makers. They requested for this need, as there is problem for people to sit during the meetings, we need at least $100 for this need.

4. Our car needs new tires, last time we changed them 3 and half years before, now they need to be replaced for safe traveling. Reasonable 4 tires are for $400, and we need $70 for some general repairing of the car.

5. One more need we have is a printer for our office, we need to print notes and many other things on weekly basis, our old computer is not usable. A reasonable printer is for $170. Please pray for the provision of this need.

6. Please pray for the growth of our Church in the fear and love of God and pray for people to be strong in their faith.

Thank You very much, we love you and pray for you!
