Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves as your point of contact here on the ground in Nairobi, and to give you a brief over-view of what the Lord is doing here in Nairobi! My name is Pastor David A. Zavala,
Dr. Poornima (Twinkle) is my wife and my Daughter’s name is Bianca. We have been serving in Kenya since 2003.
We will be available to answer any questions that you may have regarding Nairobi:
Currently we have some really exciting things happening in Nairobi that we request your prayers for. Following is a brief overview of these various ministries:
Calvary Chapel Nairobi (CCN)
Calvary Chapel Nairobi started July 31, 2005. Since that time, we have grown to about 100 adults and about 175-200 kids that regularly attend Sunday church services. It is really exciting to see what the Lord is doing at this church. The building we are renting is strategically located with a huge slum directly behind it and right across the street another slum, which happens to be the Largest slum in East Africa! Most of our church congregation is from the above mentioned slums. It is amazing to see the body being changed by the grace of God. And how quickly the body wants to cling to God’s grace and shed the legalism that most have been exposed to. The people of the body really have no material wealth but you can not miss seeing the Joy of the Lord on the brothers and sisters of the church. When you come out to Nairobi you will have an incredible time getting to know our brothers and sisters in Christ. You will get to visit their humble homes (tin shack houses), and fellowship with them through various church activities.
As these slums have a huge population of people they are a great opportunity to share the Gospel of Christ. On Mondays we have an Evangelism outreach to these two slums. The main point of this evangelism will be to share the good news of the Gospel so that people might be won to Christ. This is also an opportunity to invite people off the streets to a concert held at our church every last Sunday of the month. This concert is called “ Freedom In Christ Celebration”. We invite locals to share their songs or dramas that glorify the Lord. Then we share testimonies and preach the incredible Gospel message to the Audience. We normaly have about 500 people attending our Freedom In Christ Celebration (concert). Please feel free to co-labor with us by praying that people would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
If the Lord leads you to come out to Kenya and Visit and if you have experience with evangelistic dramas or Musical gifting that edify & glorify the Lord then you are welcome to perform at the Freedom in Christ Celebration.
The members of CCN will also participate with their own drama and our worship band and choir will be presenting at this event.
On Saturday Afternoons, We have Women’s BibleStudy at our church, Twinkle Zavala teaches the women on the Word of God followed by time of tea and fellowship with the women at the church. The Women's Bible study is followed by Women’s Crafts Project, during this time the women who attended the Bible study make various crafts, like beaded jewelry which is sold at various Calvary Chapels & Christian Church Café’s in the US. The profit made is used to financially support these women who make the crafts, as most of the women attending the Bible studies are unemployed & are very poor, so this is a means of helping them to earn an income. For more information check out the web site: www.rabunafi.org
About 200 children show up at our church every Sunday! most of them come with their friends as most of their parents do not go to church or go to other churches. So its Pastor David’s vision to plant good seeds of our God in these children as they are the future. We have various age groups & we try to teach them about Jesus Christ as per the Bible and as per the Calvary Chapel Childrens Ministry curriculum. So we have rented on a weekly basis, 4 rooms above the church building for Childrens ministry even though our church financially cannot afford to pay the rent for these rooms. We request your prayers that the Lord would provide sufficient finances for the rent of these rooms also that the Lord would raise up more children’s ministry teachers & helpers.
What's happening at our church:
Sundays: Home fellowship training. Along with Pastor Dave an in-depth discussion of the Sunday morning message is done on Sunday evenings followed by a time of prayer. Mondays: Evangelism. A short teaching by Phenias, and a time of prayer before going out to local areas to evangelize. Tuesdays: Bible College. Next semester starts on February 2007. Tuesdays: Discipleship. Fred is teaching through the book of Romans. It has been an incredible thing to watch as these men and women
grasp the reality of who they are in Christ! Wednesday: Bible College: Next semester starts on February 2007 Thursday: Intercessory Prayer Meeting
